OpenLAB CDS Driver Information

Minimum required Firmware Agilent recommends using the most recent firmware revisions in order to provide the highest level of system capability.

Please visit http://www.agilent.com/en-us/firmwareDownload?whid=69761 to download the latest Agilent LC firmware. Drivers are forward compatible with respect to firmware, i.e. the firmware can be updated without the need of updating the driver or CDS. To check the firmware of your installed instrument do the following: In the ChemStation Edition Method and Run Control view: LC Instruments: In the menu go to Instrument > Revisions & Serial#s. GC Instruments: In the menu go to Instrument > Instrument Configuration. Select the GC under Selected Modules, click the configure button, then select the configuration tab.

In the following sections this guide lists the instruments and modules compatible with the current version of OpenLAB CDS and list the minimum required firmware, that allows to run the instrument. The instrument driver and firmware versions listed have been verified to work with OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition version C.01.08.

NOTE The “minimum required firmware” specified allows operation of the instrument with the data system, but preserves the minimal functionality of the stated firmware. Not all functionality introduced by more recent releases of instrument drivers and the associated firmware is available with previous versions. A firmware upgrade should be done if you face problems or want to add system functionality to your system.

Operating Systems Unless otherwise noted all instrument drivers are supported on

• Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise and Professional (64-bit ) • Windows 10 Enterprise and Professional (64-bit )

Driver types Agilent OpenLAB CDS drivers are based on the RC.NET architecture. Information in this guide refers to this driver type, unless otherwise noted.

For some instrument classes “Classic Plus” drivers are available with OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition (ELSD, CTC and Single Quad MS). The Classic Plus driver types can be combined with RC.NET drivers via their CIC ports.

The Keysight I/O Libraries are not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2 nor Windows Server 2012; therefore, GPIB communication is not available for AICs.


Agilent HPLC/LC Instrument and Firmware Compatibility

Support Statement Most Agilent LC Modules can be controlled by OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition using the most current LC driver. LC driver release A.02.18 has been tested with this revision and is installed by default with the software.

Recommended Firmware Use the latest firmware set for Agilent LC instruments with Agilent OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition. The latest sets are 7.01, 6.50, and 6.30.

Please visit the Agilent site LC Firmware News and Downloads for downloading the latest Agilent LC firmware. Firmware from Set 7.01 can be downloaded from http://www.agilent.com/en-us/firmwareDownload?whid=99818.

You need to upgrade ALL existing modules to latest version only if

• a new LC module is added to the existing system (recommended) • one of the existing modules requires an upgrade due to a bug fix solved with the

latest release.

For more details on the LC Driver and Firmware please refer to the Release Note for Agilent LC and CE drivers Revision A.02.18, available on the install media at Disk3\Docs\ENU.

Please note that the LC Driver releases are independent from CDS Releases. OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition C.01.08 is shipped with LC driver release A.02.18, but may be compatible with later releases.

If you want to use more recent driver revisions, please refer to the respective Release Note for Agilent LC and CE drivers delivered with the drivers for more information.

NOTE LC and CE Firmware revisions are grouped into sets for each module or system. Firmware sets include just the latest firmware of each module.

Modules combined into one LC instrument always need to have firmware from the same set. Firmware of one set is fully compatible with your CDS that supports this firmware set. However, if one module uses a firmware revision lower that the current firmware some functionality might not be supported.

Do not mix firmware revisions from one set with older or newer sets. Firmware is not tested across set borders!

OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Workstation VL

Overview OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition offers a VL version for Workstations. It provides the full functionality of the Workstation configuration while restricting instrument control.

The OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Workstation VL license allows the control of one LC or GC instrument only, and restricts the use of the instruments to standard modules. LC-MS configurations are not supported. The supported modules and firmware options for VL Systems are listed in more detail below.

OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Workstation VL rev. C.01.08 Allows control of one of the below: • One 1260 Isocratic Infinity (II) LC system, or one 1260 Quaternary Infinity (II)

LC system with selected 1260 Infinity (II) LC modules (use instrument type “Agilent LC Core System”). 1290 series LC systems are not compatible with VL.

• One Agilent 1220 Infinity LC system or one 1120 Compact LC system (use “Agilent 1220 LC System”). Control of supplemental Infinity LC modules is supported for all LC modules with the exception of modular pumps.

• One 7820A GC, or one 490 Micro GC.
