Y uling Zheng and Haifeng Feng’s first meeting was completely unexpected. Haifeng walked into Yuling’s store, the two started talking, and it progressed from there. “He made me feel special when

he looked at me and the way he was humouring me made me feel like a little girl again,” recalls the bride. For the couple’s one-year anniversary, Haifeng surprised Yuling with a home-cooked dinner. He had been taking cooking lessons for weeks and had everything carefully planned out. Before proposing, he played a romantic slideshow highlighting important moments in their relationship. “After showing our past beautiful moments together, he asked me the question I had been waiting to hear,” recalls Yuling.

The wedding took place on June 4, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Flora Peng of fleur weddings inc. provided full event planning services leading up to the celebration. The couple was married in a civil ceremony at the omni king edward hotel. The venue’s newly-renovated Crystal Ballroom was transformed into a pastel floral paradise courtesy of forget me not flowers. A white aisle runner led to the main stage, both carpeted by luxe modern rentals inc., who also provided the ornate signing table.

“We wanted to incorporate our family into our wedding as much as possible so both fathers acted as witnesses for our ceremony,” shares Yuling.

featured hand embroidery and was gifted to the bride

by her parents.

A PASTEL PARADISEThe cocktail and wedding reception also took place inside the omni king edward hotel’s Crystal Ballroom, where forget me not flowers and fleur weddings inc. created a new design. The oversized, topiary-style arrangements that previously lined the aisle now served as table centrepieces and were complemented by smaller bouquets in crystal vases and ivory pillar candles of varying heights. According to Flora Peng, “The decor at the reception made guests feel like royalty!”

Guests were treated to a four-course dinner courtesy of the omni king edward hotel that included shrimp and crab cakes with wasabi crema, seared scallops with beluga caviar, a choice of beef Wellington and heirloom carrots or soy-lacquered black cod with shiitake risotto, and passion fruit in white chocolate.

truffle cake & pastry prepared the couple’s decadent dessert table, which included not one but three wedding cakes, in addition to monogrammed cookies, miniature bundt cakes, cupcakes, and donuts. “I had discussed the design of our sweets table many times with our wedding planner Flora, but it still surprised me and well exceeded my expectations,” shares the bride. In addition to edible gilding and blush and lavender sugar flowers, the cakes were each adorned with a distinct design. Two of the cakes featured a hand-painted panda and rabbit, respectively, while the main confection had a gold cake topper in the shape of the two animals. “The rabbit and the panda represented my husband and I. Truffle Cake & Pastry were able to incorporate these important symbols into the overall design,” says Yuling.

Since so many guests travelled from China for the wedding, Yuling and Haifeng decided to postpone their honeymoon. Instead, they hosted 40 of their guests in their hometown of Halifax and in Vancouver. “They had a great vacation in Canada and we provided a wonderful guest experience even after our wedding,” says Yuling. The couple currently resides in Halifax, where they are both small business owners.
