Funerary spaces have always been conditioned by tradition and symbolism, unique architectures which are a direct consequence of

the cultures that generate them. The modern times have abandoned this symbolic tradition and face the challenge of coming up

with new solutions to new ways of understanding and experiencing a common fact for the human being, death. The proposal set out

in this case pretends to combine the functions of a park for the dead and a park for the living, a path that flows between the sea and

the mountain where the opposites coexist with respect for the place and its tradition. The metaphors lying beneath the ensemble

refer to the journey of life, gleaming and sinuous, and the sense of belonging to the land, the home or the ancestral cave. The

following study tries to establish a series of guidelines and premises to help clarifying and justifying the different design decisions,

going from the landscape and symbolic scale (the immeasurable) to the palpable and material scale (the measurable scale).

Boxes of senses pretends to be a facility that uses our memory resources to guide us inside the architectural creation. Personal

exploration and our combined experience of the senses allow us to establish a set of physical and touchable strategies that are

present in the project. After all, we must carefully analyse the spring that are going to be turned in our memories once we are inside

a space, as Peter Zumthor explains:

“What has moved me from there? All, things, people, air, noise, colors, material presences, textures and also forms. Forms that I

can understand Forms that I can try to read. Forms that I found beautiful. And what else has moved me from there? My own mood,

my feelings, my expectations when I was sitting in there […] that means: Everything is just inside me. But then I do the experiment

of removing the square in front of me, and then I have not the same feelings”.

The buildings are greatly influenced by the northern lights, modifying the treatment of the interior space and the position of the

volumes. It is a special light that floods the spaces with an almost mystical softness. Taking this as a premise and borrowing from

other similar projects in northern Europe, such as Pentti Ahola in Tapiola (Finland), Korhonen & Laapotti in Matinkylä (Finland) or

Kingo Houses Utzon, Helsingor (Denmark), I propose the creation of a cluster of homes on the Oleiros municipality, in A Coruña.

Having chosen this location, I try to compare the unique characteristics of light in the Nordic countries, and the one in my area of

operation, also located north, but in this case north of Spain. The treatment of this special light, along with prefabrication, the

organization through courtyards and connecting residential parts in the field, looking for a major junction between landscape and

construction, will be cornerstones of my project.

The intention is to show how an artificial element can be inserted into a natural environment of interest, based on three key

concepts: scale, setting and light.

The building aspires to set an example for the recovery of a network of paths and plots which, over time, have fallen into disuse due

to the lack of planning. Yet the project aims to go further, becoming a reference for the entire area, contributing a sense of harmony

to a disordered landscape but which despite this conserves the typical charm of the Galician countryside.

Finding an appropriate solution for the problem detected and analysed will allow the whole to become an invitation for everyone

wishing to spend a day outdoors away from the urbanized setting without giving up any of the comforts of the modern life.

Throughout the course of the years Jorge de Oteiza Enbil (1908/2003) searched for an abstract form, a man´s refuge, an urban space

monument that would serve for meditation and reflection in a full of distresses place and stimulus context. And that is precisely

what is sought in a multifunctional art-teaching pavilion project in the Universidad Laboral of A Coruña. Its quite space, in the

middle of the cars, students and pedestrian movements, must award an inspiration point in daily routine.

By occupying, everybody intends to express something; I do not wish to express anything, to leave any trace of the void, things

that should be left unsaid. De-occupying is the only thing that happens and something has taken up a void. Put a spade in the air

and receive physic air, only void remains, a trastatue, not a scene, a room for our soul´s function, for the privacy work of it, with the

isolation that absolutely feel the man like living in most dangerous or helplessness time and when all the confidence in life things is

lost.

Today we can find many examples of neighbourhoods or areas in a city that are in a very advanced state of neglect, not only by the

local authorities but also by the residents. In addition, their streets are in a state of permanent insecurity, which leads to a lifeless

and deteriorated urban space. This is case of San Valentin (Fene), a district that was born in the shadow of the shipyard and on

which its existence and continuity depends. However, as a result of the crisis in the shipbuilding industry, the unique identity that

characterised this neighbourhood is gradually disappearing, in line with the decline of the shipyard. Consequently, the public

spaces are converted into hostile and silent landscapes that are devoid of interaction between the residents. This is one of the

main reasons why the district is understood as a frayed whole where my proposal seeks to act as a network, which enhances the

hidden identity and showing the neighbourhood as a whole or as a close-knit community.

The intention of my research is direct the look towards the beginning phase of the project, understanding it like an instrument of

knowledge of reality. Also, it will be a searching exercise to find what the plot hides. After all a project is an uncertainty. And what

happens in the chosen plot, near the beach of Bastiagueiro (Oleiros) depends of us, and our way of seeing it. So I studied the

different ways to seeing of some architects at the time of solve their projects in zones that involve barriers or limits. Therefore, I'll

take distance for check my proposal and adjust it according the approximation forms that I set up. Like Robert Smithson said: ' A

great artist can realize art just throwing a look. The effort is in know how can we approach and move away again and again in this

previous process, that is the creation of an architectonical work, and how can we transmit it to others. Much direct, Le Corbusier

insisted that, 'the key is watch...watch, see, look, imagine, invent, create''.

This research paper focuses on studying the importance of the grid in the architectural rehabilitation. For this reason, it is analysed

that word and other such as frame or mesh to understand the different possibilities of design and composition. All of them can

serve as geometric constructive support of the architecture and of the functional program. With this work, I try to understand the

architecture through the various readings of the grid, for this I analyzed its employment throughout history, analyzing some

representative examples. It will also analyze their ability to adapt to a scale and existing distribution. Finally, it will analyze the

impact of the uniform repetition in a concrete example: the rehabilitation of a old salting factory in the village of Mugardos, next to

the Bestarruza beach. This small industrial complex is nowadays in a ruinous state, only some stone walls remain ... and part of the

underground tanks salting.

The social concerns of the 1960s led to the emergence of a new building typology, known as ‘mat-building’, in response the

criticism of the urban model of the Modern Movement. Elements such as circulations, courtyards, roofs and structure would play a

key role in resolving the problems stemming from a society in a state of constant change. My project, a Fashion and Design School

in Culleredo, although it cannot be considered a mat-building, does reflect similar features, such as the need to create systems

capable of adapting to spatial transformations and varying degrees of usage intensity. Therefore, my objective is to analyse this

building typology, characterised by horizontal layouts, enabling me to tackle the complex nature of my programme and the

connection with the surrounding environment. In short, the aim is to reinterpret the characteristics of mat-buildings in order to

provide solutions for current design issues and work strategies within the scale of the campus, thereby forming a whole.

Given the worrying architectural situation of those building aimed at cinematographic exhibitions in Galicia, the current proposal is

to draw attention on the ruins of a now abandoned building. After a review of the architectural heritage of Mugardos, it is striking

that one of its most interesting properties has been forgotten. The Ideal Cinema Zárate, situated in Ferrol, which was built in the

early twentieth century, has been a leading county concerning the so-called leisure industry. Since decades ago, it is in an

advanced state of degradation. This was the reason why, in 2007, the city council decided to try to restructure this building as a

hospital. After various tries, this project has not been carried out. My proposal is to turn this place into a gastronomic center, where

you can cook, taste and promote seafood. Its original building needs an urgent social recovery, and this will be achieved with a

solid rehabilitation strategy

The aim of this research paper is to carry out an analysis of the capacity of industrial character building systems to accommodate

new applications and create new possibilities beyond the purely industrial. This project is linked to three terms: prefabrication,

flexibility and sustainability. The first enables the standardization and normalization of the construction processes, pursuing self-

construction as far as possible. The second accommodates the possibility of progressive growth, and the third allows recycling of

materials and energy savings. All this has its practical application in the project placed Fene where the training centre and the small

enterprise development will be evolved. The undertaking seeks to suit the cultural and geographical environment of the area,

closely linked to industrial heritage. Therefore, a constructive manual has been developed which allows the correct implementation

of the proposal, in order to ensure that this system becomes universal.

Old industrial buildings becoming obsolete hold technical and architectural value, which can be fostered through heritage

restoration and recovery strategies. A direct relationship between the term mis-en-scène and the main design tools may even be

established. Distinctive features such as the entry of natural light, routes, location or the use of materials, provide these buildings

with certain physical and environmental characteristics which significantly differ from the ordinary, constituting real sceneries

which can be fostered with new uses. For this reason, several projects and proposals regarding this field will be analysed in order

to draw valid conclusions for the subsequent restoration of the old hydroelectric power plant in A Ventureira, within Las Fragas del

Eume National Park, a currently abandoned building.

In order to provide an answer question posed by the title of this research project “Why choose wood?” an analysis of a series of

opposing concepts was carried out in order to support the choice of timber as a structural and finishing material for the rowing and

canoeing center located in the tidal estuary of O Burgo, Oleiros (A Coruña). As a result, the research work is approached from a

laboratory perspective, a kind of testing space where the duality of the material is analysed. Indeed, the initial plans do not rule out

any type of proposals, ideas or connections. Many of the ideas arise unexpectedly, whilst others have been always present. This

case considers the material: wood. As all objects have a synonym yet also an antonym, the aim has been to use this confrontation

as a means of providing a new interpretation of wood as a material.

Industrialization and land speculation, lead us to the present cities, where large buildings have taken up all the territory. As a result,

the soil resources are becoming scarce and disappeared in the worst case scenario. So that´s why, it is important to consider

whether this way of life is the right way or not. I think the path we are following is leading us to an unhealthy life, a life of economic

dependence (oil, food, transportation...), where the old self-sufficiency status of the cities is being forgotten. Thus arises the idea of

urban garden, as a recovery system and as a link between different generations, turning to value life in community.

"The very essence of architecture consists of a variety and development reminiscent of natural organic life. This is the only true

style in architecture."

The time, able to arrange the spatial sequences, appears as a manipulation tool that allows us to shape the space. As in the

narrative structures, in architectural promenade the building is revealed to visitors following an established succession. Quoting

Bernard Tschumi: "spatial sequences inevitably involve the movement of an observer, and then such movement can be objectively

organized and formalized as a sequence." Consequently, the intrinsic relationships between spatial and temporal sequences are

reflected in established circulations. These circulations seek to strengthen relationship between space, event, topography and

movement. This relationship is directly linked to the project to make, an intermodal station in Fene, a municipality close to Ferrol.

Following the same procedure, the project aims to show the relationship between the spatial sequence and the structure of the

building.
