Project This session will explore the programs initiated by Wounded Warrior Project to empower today’s generation of wounded warrior to become the most successful, well adjusted generation of wounded warriors in our nation’s history. Wounded Warrior Project has engaged with warriors still on active duty by exposing them to IT training. Other initiatives involve warriors who are no longer on active duty. Whether on the college campus, seeking employment, or working to rebuild their lives, Wounded Warrior Project is working with and for wounded warriors, spouses, and caregivers. Pavilion 21 Breakout Session 6: Supporting the Disability Community in the Workforce, Corporate Recruiting & Talent Development Issues & Best Practices Sourcing and retaining people with disabilities is challenging for many in corporate America, but only because they don't know how. Understanding the best practices and collaborative implementation strategies of today's businesses who employ this large, loyal segment of the population is the key. It's also about understanding the need for organizational readiness and its components so that a company's efforts to recruit and retain people with disabilities are successful and sustainable. This session will address the following and more to highlight the best practices of some of today's leading companies: understanding the compliance requirements of outreach and accessibility, delivering appropriate and value-added training, encouraging disability resource groups, reasonable accommodation committees, celebratory events, emergency preparedness and more. Understanding the best practices and collaborative implementation strategies of today's businesses who employ this large, loyal segment of the population is the key. It's also about understanding the need for organizational readiness and its components so that a company's efforts to recruit and retain people with disabilities are successful and sustainable. employees - in some cases, whether they have a disability or not. The presenters will provide information on the policies, programs and hiring authorities to support Wounded Warriors as they return to federal employment. Ms. Cohen's discussion will include the accommodation services provided by the Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) that starts at the military treatment facility and follows our warriors throughout the employment life cycle. Mr. King will discuss with participants several effective tools that can play a vital role in the success of wounded warriors in the federal workplace from Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), Employee Resource Groups (ERG), and the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), to mentoring, career development, and employee recreation and wellness associations. Each can play a vital role in the success of wounded warriors in the federal workplace.
