a) The declaration of a quorum by roll call. declared

Standing orders raised for Rita from Rosa organization - conor viscardi - seconded by LKRosa fin 18.30 Rita

SF - by using illegal pills to get government attention - legal remedy by illegal means, is this the best way to go about it? Rita - look at debate on government's terms, don’t discuss health, didn’t meet grounds of 8th amendment. Debate on their terms is so limited we are forced to work outside box. Citizens assembly.

ROM - ‘safer to use than paracetamol’ mythapristone - others are less safe. How can you justify saying this with no aftercare provided.Rita - Women need less help than us than you think - willing to go to clinics. Most don’t go to counselling. Seeing a medical professional presents legal risk. NI - one of cases is that GP reported to Garda - shouldn’t break confidence.

NT - Concern about bus as it will be present on campus - wanted to know more about it. Level of medical assessment? Do they see someone directly, physical exam? access to previous medical records?Rita - bus operates in same way as Women on Web - we want face to face consultations - however won’t work in ireland. Medical history is volunteered. We are a link up with healthcare provider, not provider ourselves.

b) Minutes arising of the previous meeting. Minutes from Council 6 to be approvedLB - AOB Donal Breatan - deputy officer

c) Matters arising from these minutes.

d) Motions on notice. ● Social Engagement - Liam Brady

LB - largest course, stigma that mixing is difficult. Not a solution, just a stepping stone. Providing with a simple opportunity to engage with peers.

RA - like idea, help with community sense. Don’t like division of stages - pressure put on them for events while may be busy. Run together as opposed to divisions.

LK - necessity that you organise something for your stage - but could be done collaboratively. Don’t think motion needs to change.

JG - Issue/ constitution - reps can’t be mandated. create precedent

LK - already being set - reports, council

CHAIR - no issue with my reading of it

DM - Nothing to say they can’t collaborate. Wording using ‘separate’ would suggest they can’t.

LK - can work round this.

AK - links with other schools- joint. where would that leave us

passed by majority

● First Aid at UCD - Eoin GormleyEG - Would like to be able to help if there was an incident. good employable/ life skill. Three aspects to idea. short term- current students. Different organisations to do courses. Feasibility of a module in ucd - elective. look into implementing this. long term - advocating for such policies throughout the country. IHF teaching in secondary schools - basic levels- one day course.

JF - how feasible is it to make it into a module - could you credit it?

LK - Dont think its unfeasible, to be a five credit module workload needs to be 100hrs. I’m looking into it at the moment.

ROM - i think it’s a really good idea, did Restart a Heart - courses are expensive but would be more than happy to work towards this.

CC- Only problem I have is cost justification - uni will not subsidise it. limited nos on course concerned with cost.

EG - compared with cost of arts module - first aid half price of commercial course. cost wise i feel it would be feasible. currently subsidise sr RAs.

9A JG & NT

passed

● Facebook Groups - Thomas FitzgeraldJG - mandate that every class has fb group.

LB - after a while reps loose interest and hard to reach out to them. in favour of motion but there will be barriers.

JG - if class rep unable falls to college officer.

SFe - there is no use in making a group for some things, masters in particular. maybe make it exceptional.

ROM - feels a little unnecessary - SU does not need control over everything

JG - mandate just says to ensure there is some kind of group, if there already is one that’s fine.

LF - as someone who uses facebook a lot - too many groups, just get ignored.

CHAIR put to vote

motion is defeated

● Amendment to prev. ‘Repeal the 8th’ - Stephen CrosbyCHAIR second version not valid - if first one passes then second can be submitted next council.

SC - Facilitate upcoming strike. nothing in place to encourage SU to partake in upcoming events. Make it more gender neutral. keep to idea that SU is advocate for repeal the eighth.

CHAIR - any objections to this amendment.

LK - unclear on: assume this doesn’t remove line on conscientious objection

SC - no it does not

LK - would this mandate us to take part in repeal bus?

CHAIR - my views - yes would have to take part as it clearly comes under that branch

motion is defeated

e) Motions not on notice.

f) Items for Discussion.● March for STEM - Joshua Gorman Climax

JG - in solidarity with march for science in america. In contact with student - broader coalition of bodies across ireland.

LF - reached out to main people who would be involved - their feedback was that attendance would be poor.

ROM - stem doesn’t bring to mind climate change for me. STEM & Trump isn’t that relevant to this margin.

KK - ucd links with american universities, therefore would say it is v relevant* trump has said a lot of things that affect students and don’t act on all of these?

WOB - General protest - not in response to trumpLF - march is to promote to increase STEM research to shut down politiciansJG - no country committing to change the way it needs to be to be safe. I believe it’s a good moment to stand with them while also looking at our own gov and europe as a whole.

● Decision on stance of repeal bus - ROMROM - we need to decide whether we advocate or not. non binding show of hands at end please?CHAIR - can do this.NT - against it personally

GO - should not advocate - not safe, risks. Should not say it’s ok when people may be too scared to go to medical professional due to laws.JG - lot of people worried about safety. My worry is that when we were afraid of medical situation - No WHO info on slides. facts & info. Sensational & unreliable claims, no useable and accurate statistics.SF - I don’t think we should be in favour of this repeal bus. It’s young people that want to repeal 8th most - word will get around. may make our fight to get movement harder.
