AGCO SISU POWER

AGCO SISU POWER has its originsin diesel engine manufacture morethan 60 years ago in Finland. By

the early 1950s, the company wasbuilding some of the first directinjection and turbo-charged dieselengines ever to be produced.

They rapidly developed areputation for quality andinnovation which is just asevident today. In 1957, the firstSISU diesel-engined tractor waslaunched, incorporating some newfeatures - liquid engine cooling,direct injection and wet replaceablecylinder liners, for example - that

are still used in AGCO SISUPOWER engines today.

The company responded tothe markets desire for morehorsepower by developing ever-

larger engines. 1960 saw theestablishment of a plant in Mogidas Cruzes, Brazil and in 1994SISU commenced Diesel engineproduction there.

However, as far back as 1991,Massey Ferguson took thedecision to start using SISUtractor engines and theMF 3680 was the firstmodel to benefit from thisnew direction.

In 2004, AGCO acquired SISUDiesels engine factories in Finland

and Brazil, since which time it hasinvested more than 30 million inupgrading and refurbishing the

production facilities. AGCO arecurrently investing in new SISUmanufacturing facilities in Russiaand China which will furtherincrease production capacity tomeet the increased demand forSISU engines.

Today, more than 30,000 enginesare built annually and the businessemploys nearly 700 people. It isestimated that there are morethan half a million SISU enginesproviding vital power around

the world.

Designed specifically fordemanding off-road applications,the new 3rd Generation Series hasbeen developed to be the mosteconomic agricultural engines inthe world. They have also beenengineered to emit lower carbonemissions without compromisingtheir impressive fuel economy.

This is achieved by a combination

of innovative features highinjection pressure, precisioninjection timing and effectivecharge air cooling. At the sametime, power density and torquelevels have been boosted,while maintaining optimumfuel efficiency.

The very latest control system, highpressure fuel injection and turbo-charger work together in perfectharmony to enable the engine toreact immediately to changing

load conditions.

Torque rise is rapid and remainshigh at lower engine speeds toensure the most efficient operationand maximum fuel savings.

AGCO SISU POWER dieselengines are built to the highestquality standards to ensuremany years of robust, reliableperformance, and are verystraightforward to operateand simple to maintain.

The modular design andcommonalty of parts between 3,4, 6 and 7 cylinder engines makes

service and parts availabilitysimple and convenient. The entirefuel system is located on the coolside of the engine, while the fuelfilters are easily accessible forquick replacement without toolsor spillage. All service points havebeen positioned for easeof access.

Engine noise caused by thecombustion process has alsobeen significantly reduced.

Mike Mathias runs Farming and Engineering Services in Malawi,which he describes as a one-stop shop where you can purchase atractor, lease it, rent it or even contract us in to do the work for you.Operations undertaken include land preparation, spraying, muck-spreading and laser levelling.

Exceptional torque

Within the FES contract tractorfleet are five Massey Fergusontractors with AGCO SISU POWERengines an MF 8250, an MF8280 and three MF 8480s ofwhich Mike is very happy with theperformance and fuel efficiency.

When we compared the fuelefficiency of our old MF 9240(Cummins 3 Series, 255 hp) withthe MF 8280 (260 hp), the MF 8280

is +/- 6 litres an hour more efficientwhen working on heavy land prep.

It is also important to note that thetorque of the MF 8280 is so muchgreater than the MF 9240, which is

critical in heavy land prep. In fact,even the MF 8250, which is only210 hp, has better torque than theMF 9240, he reports.

Our MF 8280 has now done over17,000 hours and a recent engineoil analysis test confirmed that itis still good and the tractor willremain in the fleet.

Two of the MF 8480s, coupled with

laser-controlled scrapers, levelledmore than 1,000 hectares of landbetween May and October lastyear, moving 625,000 m3of soiland using less than 0.3 litresof fuel per m3.

The CVT transmission and activesuspension make the MF 8480 theperfect tractor for scraper work,as you cannot stall the engine,explains Mike. And when you hit adeep cut or hard patch, the enginetorque is quite exceptional.

Weve also sold around 20 AGCOSISU POWER driven MF gen-sets,ranging from the smallest 40 kva tothe biggest 275 kva Power Series

generator sets and we are veryhappy with their performanceto date.
