African Women and BeyondAfrican Women and Beyond is driving the Amsha Mama initiative which includes the events that attract thousands of participants to inspire, connect and empower each other. We create the market places for women as well as the platform to go much further by building skills, access to finances, further access to markets, to resources, suppliers – We build the platform so they can build their businesses and their lives.

We target working directly with 1,000,000 women in micro businesses with economic empowerment through entrepreneurship within the first one year.

With Master Card as a key partner through our mutual initiative Africa Women Leadership Network, AWLN, we are working jointly pushing the financial inclusion of women in Africa through governments, WEF, financial institutions, corporates, and other stakeholders. With passionate and dedicated partners on board who want to drive the same agenda only the sky is the limit.

The Amsha Mama Festival in Dar esSalaamAmsha Mama Festival 5th March had over 10,000 participants and delivered the awareness of the importance of women being empowered to grow their businesses.

The day was bussing with women from Kenya and Tanzania exhibiting and selling their products while some of the very best Tanzanian artists such as Khadija Kopa, Mr Blue, Juma Nature and Tanzanian dancers kept the audience moving.

One of the highlights of the event was the Angel donations of sewing machines to 20 female entrepreneurs. It was a very touching moment when the first lucky lady in red was invited on stage to receive her gift.

She was speechless for a while before being able to take the microphone and share with the world how her hard work and focus had now been seen and she would be able to become a role model for her little son – who was with her on stage – and how his life would be changed by her new found ability to grow her business.

Our involved women will all be asked to commit to their presence by passionate and engaged participation in sharing their strengths and experience prior to and during and after the event.

Amsha Mama Festival Dar esSalaam

How wonderful it is to see how an initiative that touches the lives of thousands of people is specifically touching the lives of the individuals; That little boy might end up an entrepreneur creating jobs for others knowing that it is possible because he has a role model in his home.

The Kenyan exhibitors who were especially invited had made the travel of their life. For most of them it was the first time crossing a boarder and the stories to be told about the journey are many.

A grand Amsha Mama after party dinner was held with nyama choma and drinks to celebrate a special time together, and to share the laughter and stories of a journey that has just begun.

With the awareness created on ground to many thousands of women and beyond, alongside with the coverage by 28 media houses in Tanzania women already signed up in big numbers for the seminars that are also a central part of what we offer to the women.

We waste no time, and the organization of the seminar is in full swing with the team on ground.

Amsha Mama Festival in Naivashaon 26th March was held in the wonderful surroundings of Kedong Bush Camp where the 50-acre campsite was transformed into an energetic field of activities throughout the day.

Women exhibitors had come from near and far to use the opportunity to create connections, experience, learn, and enjoy the day. The women were ferried in from Naivasha town to Kedong Bush Camp by busses provided by African Women and Beyond. They could be heard talking and laughing excitedly while they were being driven to Kedong.

200 tents beautifully and skilfully set up at the Ranch for the exhibition. Our partners flavoured the day with their input to the women. Among them Master Card, Dr.MaryOkelo (Founder of Makini Schools and KWFT), Mama Sarah Obama Foundation, amazing gospel artists, special shopping opportunities, an exciting auction that got the pulse up to 160. The event also gave many women the opportunity of starting a new business with Oriflame who offered a special packet for the occasion.

A special guest from Paris had flown in to look for high end art work, and she found what she was looking for among the exhibitors.

Amsha Mama also included the students from surrounding schools, and gave a very meaningful lesson in life for the students about entrepreneurship and about leading yourself to taking responsibility and creating a bright future for yourself and your community.

While the adults where busy enjoying the products and selling, the kids had loads of fun doing horseback riding, bicycle racing and lots more. As a special event a tree planting session and environmental conservation awareness talk was headed by the young 15-year-old president of the We Care Club Steve Njoroge.

At the food and drinks tent, we had a variety of mouth-watering and figure licking meals prepared by the state of the art chefs from across the country. We had lots of food ranging from traditional African foods to sea foods and all kinds of snacks and drinks too.

Other than the sales made by the exhibitors some of the best entrepreneurs from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda where offered sponsorships to take their businesses further, and corporates participating were happy to help the women rise up and elevate their businesses through direct opportunities for new businesses as well as supplies, market, and mentorship.

The Amsha Mama Tukutane Mombasa 30th April 2016 will be focusing on leveraging art and culture as income generating activities for women with a special focus on the Kenyan Tourism.

As we are being part of emphasizing the narrative that women can take a very active and empowered role in the world of business, we also want to expand the narrative to include the business opportunities that can be found in leveraging culture and art.

In our focus on empowering women in micro businesses our strategy is to work with large numbers of women at a time, and through that take advantage of the synergy of the knowledge and inspiration that will be exchanged and also delivered by mentors and partners. The same women have very central roles in the communities as mothers, wives, traders, farmers, and peace builders. With economic and social empowerment, they will have stronger voices to strengthen education as well as peace and stability.

Amsha Mama Tukutane Mombasa is the perfect place for any visitor at the coast to take a swim in the diverse and colourful Swahili culture, for the meetings between people that will remain forever in their hearts and make them want to keep coming back as well as telling the story.
