About C&R Racing -For over 25 years, C&R Racing has supplied cooling systems for Champions in NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA, AMLS, Grand-Am, & SCCA and more. Now you can experience the same level of quality cooling products, engineered for your application.

Established in December, 1988, C&R Racing has become a leading designer and manufacturer of components for the motorsports industry. Chris Paulsen, former IndyCar Series chief mechanic, started the company as a custom machine shop and metal fabrication business serving the IndyCar industry. Since, 1988, the company has grown to be the leading manufacturer of components and equipment for high performance applications, complete cooling systems, chassis and drivetrain components, and wind tunnel models. C&R Racing is the largest and preferred supplier of all custom all-aluminum radiators to NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series.

C&Rs fabrication and machine shop is equipped with the latest in CNC machine tools, metal fabrication equipment and CAD/CAM technology. Dedicated personnel provide a high tech job shop for professional racers worldwide. Products include Chassis related machine and fabrication parts, 40% and 50% wind tunnel models, complete cooling systems, and suspension components. C&R performance division, located on-site, supplies an elite line of plumbing hardware, heatshield products, safety equipment, and specialty lubricants for the motorsports industry.

In early 2005, C&R opened C&R Racing - South. C&R South, located in Mooresville NC, manufacturers and distributes drivetrain components (including the CR1, CR1V2, CR1V3, and CR2), Dynotech driveshafts, Ford 9 Racing Gear Sets, and current C&R products.

In 2011, C&R entered into the high performance aftermarket with its line of high quality cooling systems for all Mustangs, Camaros, and many others. Along with the cooling of this market, C&R has quality rear gear assemblies for any application.

ules C&R Racing OE Fit Radiator Modules are engineered to match radiator performance to SPAL electric fan performance and take the guess work out of what fan to use and how to mount it. All OE Fit Radiator Modules mount with minor or no modifications at all. We

include an OE fit radiator, SPAL fan(s) and 21 psi billet radiator cap. They come already assembled using stainless steel hardware for the fans. Some models like all the 1967-69 Camaro/Firebird come with factory GM mounting isolators. Other GM models (1970-up) utilize our Soft Mount System. This unique mounting provides solid mounting but allows the radiator to flex and move. It includes an aluminum water jetted top plate that replaces the factory top plate, CNC mounting pins made onto the radiator, rubber bushings and stainless steel buttonhead fasteners for a clean look. Others will have the same mounting as the factory like our Chevelles and Mustangs.

C&R designed the radiator around the SPAL fans. We do not use bolt-on fan mounting brackets. Instead, we use flush mounted nut plates, that are part of the radiator, simply because this provides superior fitment and look. C&R LS Modules will have steam ports and properly sized and positioned inlet and outlets so installation is hassle-free. Most LS Modules also have optional NASCAR 10 plate engine oil coolers and 5 plate power steering coolers that make for easy packaging but also provide superior oil cooling over air to oil coolers. Modules may require SPAL relays and temperature senders - check with a C&R representative for wiring options.

rsAll aluminum radiators are not created equal. Often manufacturers will choose core due to price and not performance. C&R Racing OE Fit Radiators are engineered to match vehicle performance. Case in point, our C6 Corvette radiator uses two very different cores, a 36mm for stock or slightly modified engines and a 48mm Denso core for track cars or high horsepower applications. Both fit just like the factory and accept the factory fan and a/c condenser and all the duct work that these cars have. The 48mm Denso core is current NASCAR core and is one of the best performing cores for any application. It is our go to core for high horsepower applications.

There is a reason why NASCAR teams, performance OE companies like Shelby, aftermarket companies like Detroit Speed, GM Performance Parts, Hotchkis Sport Suspension, Rad Rides by Troy and many, many others rely on C&R.

Surge TanksUsing a surge tank, closed system cooling system is the optimum way to enusure unwanted air is constantly bled. This allows a remote filling location, utilizing our billet neck, and both the radiator and engine will bleed back to the top of the tank. Youll circulate the system while filling the can to 1/2 to 2/3 full, providing an air-spring in the top of the tank.

A siphon from the bottom of the tank plumbed to the suction side of the pump or lower radiator hose pulls coolant and any trapped air thru the bleed lines and captures it in the tank. When the system is over-pressurized, the cap will lift and air pressure will release, not coolant, thereby maintaining your cooling efficiency. C&Rs external heat exchangers offer an option to having the heat exchanger in the tank of the radiators. Oftentimes packaging doesnt allow, so this design gives the ability to place for convenience of plumbing and out of harms way. These units are commonly found in sports car, off-road, and high performance street rod installation. The addition of plates in the stack increases the oil cooling.

The heat exchanger is typically plumbed in-line between the rad and the pump to cool the oil with the coldest water in the system. Utilizing a 5 plate aluminum oil cooler that will allow you to cool, often overlooked, power steering fluid. Easy instllation in the lower hose between the radiator and suction side of the water pump with -6 AN males for mounting to the low pressure side (return) of the power steering pump.

Cooling Additives

In-line ThermostatsThe C&R Racing In-Line Thermostat is used throughout the industry to maintain peak horsepower coolant temperatures. Available in 178 or 189, these elements are the most rugged, most flow available. The -6AN bypass fitting is to ensure coolant flow when the element is closed.

Custom-built, all-aluminum fittings are made at the C&R machine shop. AN, NPT, SAE threaded bosses and bungs are available. All weld fittings are made with 6061-T6 aluminum.

C&R Racing introduced a GM LS Engine Steam Vent kit last year. This kit can be plumbed to the suction side of the water pump or to the radiator. It can be used with a carburetor or with OE or aftermarket fuel injection. The kit comes with black -4 AN push loc fittings and braided hose so you can custom tailor it to your needs without special tools. Tech TipFans not only cool the engine but also control A/C air temps by removing heat out of the condenser. for A/C equipped vehicles, it is recommended to wire the fans to a trinary switch for the A/C requirements and if fuel injected, the ECM for engine temperature control. If carbureted, Spal offers thermal switches that trigger the relay to turn the fans on and off based on preset temperatures.

Starting with an investment cast nodular housing that is almost 8 pounds lighter than a standard case. Ring & Pinions are ISF Process (Isotropic Superfinish Process) by REM Chemicals for reductions in friction, heat build up, power loss, noise and increases longevity. C&R also utilizes our in house 9 Dyno which measures heat, hot & cold rolling torque, final backlash and is checked for noise. It also allows us to ship 9 already broken-in so it is ready to run when you receive it.

C&R offers Motive 9 Ring & Pinion sets that have been REM and EDM and can be installed in any 9 housing. This is a great way to decrease friction & heat build up and also allows for longer life. Whether it is a daily driver or track only car, these ring & pinions will make a big difference.

Motive 9 Ring and Pinions

C&R Internal Oil Pump can be added to our 9 housing. The pinion has been EDM to drive the pump internally, so no belts or external pumps, only a -8 AN outlet fitting to use a rear end oil cooler (requires a return -8 fitting to be welded on the housing). The pump housing is aluminum but has stainless gear inserts, so the unit can be rebuilt without replacing the housing. So high horsepower daily drivers that autocross or road race will benefit with cooler running rear ends.



Single and Double Pass Radiators

This refers to the number of times the coolant passes thru the core.

With a single pass, coolant enters into either tank and makes one pass thru the core and then into the other tank.

In a double pass (or 2 pass), both the inlet and outlet are located in the same tank. There is an internal baffle that separates the two tanks. Hot coolant enters in and is routed thru 1/2 the core and then routed into the other 1/2 and returns to the other section of the tank. This allows the coolant to turbulate in the core, allowing more of the coolant to come in contact with the tubes and transfer heat. Double passing is also used for packaging. GM LS engine applications typically favor the passenger side hose inlet and outlet. This places both radiator hoses on the passenger side, freeing up space for air intakes, superchargers, etc.

Single Pass

Open Vs. Closed

An open system means the radiator has a radiator filler neck and cap built into it. A closed system means the radiator does not have a radiator filler neck and cap on it.

Closed systems typically are used when the radiator is not the highest point in the coolant system. These systems will have a remote mounted surge tank that will have a radiator cap. The radiator will have a small hose mounted at the highest point running into the surge tank and another larger hose from the bottom of the surge tank to the suction side of the water pump. This forces any air to the surge tank while the engine is running.

Cross Flow Vs. Down Flow

A down flow radiator will have upper and lower thanks. The coolant will flow into the upper and down to the lower tank.

A cross flow radiator will enter on the side tank and cross flow across to the other tank. It really comes down to packaging whether a down flow or cross flow will be used.

Engine Oil Cooling

C&R Racing utilizes many different engine oil coolers. The most common is our 10 plate internal oil cooler that we mount inside a radiator. This is very effective in cooling the oil and packages very well. This type of oil cooler has NASCAR and dirt late model roots and has proven extremely effective in our GM LS engine module packages.
