Class 1: Toss The TurfIncludes how to perform a landscape site analysis and the steps for successful turf removal

Class 2: Design Your Space How to plan your landscape space and create a design for implementation

Class 3: Plant Selection and Coaching Session How to select WaterSmart plants that will perform well in the region and individual consultation on your landscape plan with a design professional

Class 4: Intelligent Irrigation Learn WaterSmart irrigation components and procedures to reduce landscape water use and sustain your WaterSmart plants

This workshop series is designed to provide homeowners a comprehensive overview and the basic hands-on skills necessary to makeover a traditional turf yard into a beautiful and climate-appropriate WaterSmart showcase. The series consists of four workshops, including a professional design coaching session and a vendor expo, all of which will teach participants how to transform their yards.

This workshop series is FREE for selected participants. Space is limited and qualified applicants will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis.

WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Workshop Series

Eligibility Criteria

Homeowners interested in learning WaterSmart landscape principles and who meet all of the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

1. Single-family residential homeowner (owner-occupied)

2. Working, in-ground irrigation system

3. Commitment and financial ability to make over one irrigated section of turf to low-water-use plants (either Do-It-Yourself or professional)

4. Commitment to attend all four classes

These series of classes will be held at multiple locations on a rotating basis from March 2014 to May 2015.

These locations include: MiraCosta College (Oceanside); Hunter Industries (San Marcos); San Diego Botanic Garden (Encinitas); San Diego Gas & Electric Innovation Center (Kearny Mesa); Cuyamaca Community College/The Water Conservation Garden (El Cajon); and Southwestern Community College (Chula Vista).
