After the site grid was completed, the crew removed rocks and topsoil
Excavation of this trench revealed the walls of ancient buildings
Topsoil was removed from the adjacent area and digging began again
Digging in a third trench uncovered more stone structures and artifacts
Features were photographed with rulers and directional (North) markers
This digger uncovered a clay pot just below the surface
The pot was photographed with a reference ruler where it was found
To avoid damaging the pot, the digger switched to smaller tools
Soil was carefully removed so that the pot could be extracted and labeled
Everyone had a tape measure and notebook for recording location of finds
Some workers were assigned to labeling and collecting finds in plastic bags
As excavation progressed, teams were assigned to different trenches
After considerable work, the excavation revealed more structures
This trench uncovered Roman walls and a cobbled path, probably Ottoman
Excavation of this workshop revealed an ancient kiln (see marker stick)
A clay water channel (drainage system?) was found in another workshop
A circular artifact was found in the floor of a building at the Minoan level
It looked like a storage vessel (which were commonly set into floors)
