’n Mens moet jouself deesdae behoorlik toerol in die komberse om warm te kan slaap en soggens is die oggendluggie maar snerpend.
Die winter is hier en ons is almal bly daaroor, want dit is jagtyd. Met die grou en koue winter kom ook die vreugde van kuier om die vuur en saamgesels met ou vriende.
Wanneer dié uitgawe van Africa’s Bowhunter op die rakke verskyn was baie boogjagters al op hul eerste jagtog van die seisoen – dalk selfs op ’n tweede. Ons het al ’n hele klomp jag-foto’s ontvang. Daar is gewis al ’n hele klomp trofeë na die taksidermiste gestuur en heelwat biltong hang al aan die drade.
Ek kan my voorstel dat die jagfoto’s nog vir ’n geruime tyd gaan instroom. Soms gaan dit maar woes ná ’n bok platgetrek is en word die foto’s inderhaas geneem. Lees asseblief Cleve Cheney se artikel The art and ethics of trophy photography oor die neem van ’n trofeefoto wat die dier wat gejag is waardig is. Nie alleen wil ’n mens ’n mooi foto as herinnering behou na ’n dier gejag is nie, maar dit is ook belangrik dat die foto nie ’n negatiewe beeld oor jag aan mense oordra wat die foto sien nie. Dit is dus raadsaam om meer tyd af te staan aan die neem van trofeefoto’s – en nie die proses af te jaag nie.
Lesers sal opmerk dat ons die tydskrif se uitleg en voorblad weer so bietjie verander het en dat die algehele gevoel van die tydskrif effe anders is. Ons probeer ook so bietjie “groen” wees deur papier te gebruik wat minder skade aan die omgewing doen en wat weer vir ’n ander doel in die toekoms gebruik kan word.
Ons plaas ook weer ’n ekstra twee bladsye trofeefoto’s aangesien die foto’s teen só ’n tempo instroom dat ons eenvoudig net nie voor kan bly nie. Ons het nou bykans al verlede jagseisoen se foto’s geplaas, maar verwag dat ons binnekort weer agter sal raak. Ons beraam egter planne om die probleem die hoof te bied.
Africa’s Bowhunter versprei nou Tom Miranda se boek en DVD met die titel Adventure Bowhunter. Ons het ook gehelp met die maak van ’n nuwe boek en DVD met die titel Adventure Bowhunter Africa wat eersdaags die lig sal sien. Ook dié boek en DVD sal by die tydskrif bestel kan word.
Die maand het Harry Marx die Bowtech RPM 360 getoets, maar daar is ook ’n artikel oor die Liberty 1, ’n “alternatiewe” boog wat waarskynlik nie algemene byval sal vind nie, maar tog ’n boog is met unieke eienskappe.
In die uitgawe is daar ook ’n bladsy vir kinders met ’n prentjie wat ingekleur kan word, vrae en antwoorde, hoe om ’n voëlvoerder te maak en vir die groter “kinders” ’n blokkies-raaisel.
Mag vanjaar se jagseisoen ’n wonderlike ervaring vir al die lesers wees, waar drome waar word, vriendskappe gesmee word en goeie herinnering versamel word. Mag die uitgawe vir almal ’n lekker leeservaring wees en mag almal se pyle in die jagveld die kol tref.
