camera, and they usually become about the person in front of the camera rather than the actual issue/subject. Critics say that self-reflective documentaries fall into empty narcissism. They speak directly to the film maker.

Narrative Structure

Closed Narrative – it is a closed narrative as the documentary is more focused on his story and experiences. He explains how it was for him and what he seen and has been through.

Non linear – I see this documentary as being non linear as throughout he tells the audience multiple stories about his experience in Afghanistan.

Single stranded – I see this documentary as single stranded, even though he mentions multiple stories throughout his time in Afghanistan he is the main focus throughout.

Camera Work

Mid Shot – are used on interviews, this just establishes to the audience that the person being interviewed is currently the main focus.

Hand Held Camera – shows they’re showing you their realistic experience.

External Shots Longs Shots – usually shown to

represent a large gang of men in a negative way.

Non Diegetic – at the beginning of the documentary we had narration, this described who the documentary was going to be focusing on and the topics that were going to be talked about. This is interesting as it allows the audience to decide whether or not they will be interested in watching the rest of the documentary.

Cut Fast Editing – to represent the

actions and skills they had to use were fast and needed to be thought through quickly.

I believe that some footage may have been taken from the internet, however I am not 100% sure. Some of the footage they have used is their own, however I’m not positive about it all.
