What does come to your minds when you hear the words, Afghan Women?
Changing political landscape of Afghanistan
in the last fifty years exploited the women's
rights.
Sometimes being improved but often being
abused.
• 20th century - a steady progress in women’s
rights
• Afghan women gain the right to vote in
1919 i.e. one year after UK women and one
year before US women
Taliban Regime (1994- 2001)
INVESIBLE WOMEN
• Banned from going to school or studying
• Banned from working
• Banned from leaving the house without a male chaperone
• Banned from showing their skin in public
• Banned from accessing healthcare delivered by men
Banned from being involved in politics or speaking
publicly

• Now, women are still routinely discriminated, abused and
persecuted. There is lots to be done before the equality
becomes an everyday reality for women in Afghanistan.
