Method

Step 1: Focus on California and begin by specifying a county to analyze, specifically urban areas with a high senior population.

Step 2: Within chosen county, determine where the highest population of seniors are by Census County Divisions (CCD’s).

Step 3: Examine the most senior populated areas by levels of seniors in poverty.

Step 4: Determine which of the top populated/impoverished areas is most in need of affordable senior housing by examining existing senior housing.

Step 5: Once area is selected, create a buffer to determine the areas that are furthest away from senior affordable housing. This is where the allocation of funding for affordable senior housing development is most needed.

Senior Housing LocationsRecommendations: Allocation of funding for affordable senior housing development is most needed in the East San Gabriel Valley in areas outside the buffer.

• Several census tracts fall outside the buffer zones.

• They can be viewed in further detail for a more informed decision.

• This location is highly populated with impoverished seniors in comparison to the rest of California/Los Angeles County.

• Therefore, areas outside the buffer zones are all highly suitable areas for senior affordable housing development.
