Managing Ku Band Rain Fades

Page 11: Afcomsat Profile 20101214

Managing Ku Band Rain Fades

• Uplink power control (UPC) using a beacon receiver. – Compensates quickly for local rain fade at the hub site.

• ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation)– Adjusts FEC rate and modulation dynamically to compensate

for rain fades experienced by each different remote VSAT. • Dynamically assign TDMA carriers with lower FEC and symbol rate

to specific terminals for their TRF bursts during periods of rain fade. Improved link availability

• Better spectrum utilization of both return and mesh links

Our Competitive Advantage

Page 14: Afcomsat Profile 20101214

The Afcomsat Advantage• Maximize the use of DAMA technology• Reduce total bandwidth requirement• Use smaller antennas• Implement point to point links without the SCPC overheads

of dedicated, under-utilized bandwidth• More Communications Efficiency with new ideas for

economical satellite communications. – DVB-S2, Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), – Dynamic Link Allocation, PCMA, – communication acceleration techniques

• A few of the advanced satellite communication technologies you’ll find in our VSAT products.
