History

RIGID PACKAGING SYSTEMS: A CHRONOLOGY

1890s — Aesculap created the first rigid containers, originally made of stainless steel. In the early 1900s, whileresponding to the needs of military hospitals and aid stations, Aesculap manufactured chrome-plated containers for safe transport of sterile instruments.

Aesculap introduced reusable filters in the 1930s, replacing valves and sliding vents. Rubber gaskets wereadded shortly thereafter, to ensure a proper seal between the lid and container bottom.

Since the 1960s, Aesculap containers have been manufactured from a lightweight anodized aluminum, which provides optimal heat transfer properties. The lightweightconstruction also allows for easy handling and stacking.

As technology has advanced, disposable, non-woven filters have replaced the textile filters.

At the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Congress in 1980, Aesculap introduced the concept of Rigid Packaging for sterilization in the United States. Sincethat time Aesculap has consistently innovated and improved itsproducts, introducing new generations of containers in 1984,1988, 2000 and 2004.

2010 marks Aesculap’s 30th anniversary of being the first vendorto introduce rigid sterilization container systems to the UnitedStates. Since 1980, Aesculap has grown to be the market leaderby providing you unparalleled product quality and service.

Innovation

PrimeLine® LidsPrimeLine Lids feature a reusable filtersystem and are resistant to scratches,deformation and color fading so your system will look and perform like newover its service life.

The lids are manufactured from a highgrade polymer PPSU, polyphenylsulfonecommonly known as Radel R.

The lids are offered in six colors and clear.The color coding allows staff to organizeinstrument sets by specialty for efficientprocessing. The clear lids allow visualinspection of the instrument set prior tobreaking the sterile seal.

PrimeLine lids are available for use inPreVac Terminal Steam sterilization andPreVac Flash sterilization.

PrimeLine container lids are made of ahigh-grade, thermostable plastic in sixdifferent colors and clear. The specialplastic makes the lids resistant againstimpact, scratches, defor mation anddiscoloration.

acetone or benzine

• Final rinse with distilled or fully de-mineralized water

• Make certain there are no residues from the cleaningprocess left on the lid
