shannOn develOpment 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Shannon Development, Irelands only dedicated regional development company, which was originally set up by government to promote Shannon International Airport. The company pioneered several industrial and tourism innovations, such as the Shannon Free Zone, the worlds first duty free zone. Shannon Development also helped established Europes first US Customs pre-clearance service facility, now located at Shannon Airport.

Today, the Shannon Free Zone is a critically important regional economic hub. It is home to over 100 international companies, employing over c.7,000 workers, and generates over 3.5 billion in export sales annually across a range of internationally traded services and high-end manufacturing sectors.
