Foreground

The front of a picture, often at the bottom, that appears to be closest to

the viewer.

Middle Ground

The part of an image that lies between the foreground and the background.

Background

The part of a picture that looks like its farthest away from the viewer.

Aerial Perspective As objects get closer to the horizon (or further away),

they appear lighter in value, less detailed, and bluer or cooler in color.

Chinese Paintings….

• Chinese paintings are one of the many traditions in the world. They also belong to the oldest group. • Unlike Western paintings, they consist of patterns

or designs, not pictures. • For example, they often represent nature. Chinese

paintings are used with only a couple of colors. Sometimes they only consist of black and white. Most of the drawings are made up of dots and lines.

Chinese Landscape Art Project Assignment…Create a Landscape using the following criteria:

1) Copy one of the Chinese Paintings provided to show depth as listed below.

2) To create DEPTH in the Landscape… the Chinese simplified shapes and used a minimal amount of color… usually only Black and White. They used Aerial Perspective, Foreground, Middle Ground, and Background as their main method to create depth. Your painting must be done in black, grays, and white showing….•Aerial Perspective•Foreground, Middle Ground, and Background

3) Medium and Support used: •Black Ink, Water, Soft Brush, Water, Watercolor Paper

4) Research and find a Chinese Phrase to write on your painting in Chinese Characters in RED.

4) Meet requirements of and self grade with 5C’s Rubric.
