4.1 Hints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or

leave it open longer than absolutelynecessary.

• If the ambient temperature is high andthe Temperature Regulator is set tolow temperature and the appliance isfully loaded, the compressor may runcontinuously, causing frost or ice onthe evaporator. If this happens, set theTemperature Regulator toward warm-er settings to allow automatic defrost-ing and so a saving in electricity con-sumption.

4.2 Hints for fresh foodrefrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• do not store warm food or evaporat-

ing liquids in the refrigerator• do cover or wrap the food, particularly

if it has a strong flavour• position food so that air can circulate

freely around it

4.3 Hints for refrigerationUseful hints:Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bagsand place on the glass shelf above thevegetable drawer.For safety, store in this way only one ortwo days at the most.Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc..: theseshould be covered and may be placedon any shelf.Fruit and vegetables: these should bethoroughly cleaned and placed in thespecial drawer(s) provided.Butter and cheese: these should beplaced in special airtight containers orwrapped in aluminium foil or polythenebags to exclude as much air as possible.Milk bottles: these should have a capand should be stored in the bottle rackon the door.Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, ifnot packed, must not be kept in the re-frigerator.

4.4 Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freez-ing process, here are some importanthints:• the maximum quantity of food which

can be frozen in 24 hrs. is shown onthe rating plate;

• the freezing process takes 24 hours.No further food to be frozen shouldbe added during this period;

• only freeze top quality, fresh and thor-oughly cleaned, foodstuffs;

• prepare food in small portions to ena-ble it to be rapidly and completely fro-zen and to make it possible subse-quently to thaw only the quantity re-quired;

• wrap up the food in aluminium foil orpolythene and make sure that thepackages are airtight;

• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food totouch food which is already frozen,thus avoiding a rise in temperature ofthe latter;

• lean foods store better and longerthan fatty ones; salt reduces the stor-age life of food;

• water ices, if consumed immediatelyafter removal from the freezer com-partment, can possibly cause the skinto be freeze burnt;

• it is advisable to show the freezing indate on each individual pack to enableyou to keep tab of the storage time.

4.5 Hints for storage of frozenfoodTo obtain the best performance fromthis appliance, you should:• make sure that the commercially fro-

zen foodstuffs were adequately storedby the retailer;

• be sure that frozen foodstuffs aretransferred from the foodstore to thefreezer in the shortest possible time;

• not open the door frequently or leaveit open longer than absolutely neces-sary;

10 www.aeg.com

Page 11: AEG Integrated 70/30 Frost Free Fridge Freezer - HAG6300

• do not exceed the storage period in-dicated by the food manufacturer.

5. CARE AND CLEANINGCAUTION!Unplug the appliance before car-rying out any maintenance oper-ation.

This appliance contains hydrocar-bons in its cooling unit; mainte-nance and recharging musttherefore only be carried out byauthorized technicians.

5.1 Periodic cleaningThe equipment has to be cleaned regu-larly:• clean the inside and accessories with

lukewarm water and some neutralsoap.

• regularly check the door seals andwipe clean to ensure they are cleanand free from debris.

• rinse and dry thoroughly.

Do not pull, move or damageany pipes and/or cables insidethe cabinet.Never use detergents, abrasivepowders, highly perfumed clean-ing products or wax polishes toclean the interior as this will dam-age the surface and leave astrong odour.

Clean the condenser (black grill) and thecompressor at the back of the appliancewith a brush. This operation will improvethe performance of the appliance andsave electricity consumption.

Take care of not to damage thecooling system.

Many proprietary kitchen surface clean-ers contain chemicals that can attack/damage the plastics used in this appli-ance. Page 12: AEG Integrated 70/30 Frost Free Fridge Freezer - HAG6300

5.2 Defrosting of the refrigerator

Frost is automatically eliminated fromthe evaporator of the refrigerator com-partment every time the motor compres-sor stops, during normal use. The de-frost water drains out through a troughinto a special container at the back ofthe appliance, over the motor compres-sor, where it evaporates.Periodically clean the defrost water drainhole in the middle of the refrigeratorcompartment channel to prevent the wa-ter overflowing and dripping onto thefood inside. Use the special cleaner pro-vided, which you will find already inser-ted into the drain hole.

5.3 Defrosting of the freezerThe freezer compartment of this model,on the other hand, is a "no frost" type.This means that there is no buildup offrost when it is in operation, neither onthe internal walls nor on the foods.The absence of frost is due to the con-tinuous circulation of cold air inside thecompartment, driven by an automaticallycontrolled fan.

5.4 Periods of non-operationWhen the appliance is not in use forlong periods, take the following precau-tions:

• disconnect the appliance from elec-tricity supply

• remove all food• defrost (if foreseen) and clean the ap-

pliance and all accessories• leave the door/doors ajar to prevent

unpleasant smells.If the cabinet will be kept on, ask some-body to check it once in a while to pre-vent the food inside from spoiling incase of a power failure.
