(con’t from p14. NEW STATE PARK VISITOR CENTER) “We are excited about partnering with

IDPR to co-locate our interpretation and education services at Billingsley Creek, thereby provid-

ing a centralized point for orientation, interpretation, and recreation for visitors to the Hager-

man Valley,” said Wade Vagias, Superintendent of Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument.

The agencies look forward to strengthening their community partnerships across the region.

“We anticipate the new Visitor Center will become the informational hub for all of the outdoor

experiences in the region, generating additional interest and visitation and we’re confident that

the improvements will be very positive economically for the surrounding communities,” added

Langhorst.

NEW THOUSAND SPRINGS STATE PARK VISITOR CENTER AT BILLINGSLEY CREEK WILL CREATE

UNIQUE IDPR AND NPS PARTNERSHIP

HAGERMAN — The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation

(IDPR) and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, a unit of

the National Park Service (NPS), have formally agreed to a historic, long-term collaboration that

will enrich the historic and recreational offerings in the region and have positive economic im-

pact within the Hagerman Valley.

The cornerstone of the partnership will be the construction of a 3,400 square foot Visitor Center

for Thousand Springs State Park and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, allowing both

agencies to share customer service and interpretive space.

The State of Idaho will build the Visitor Center, while NPS has agreed to pay a lease fee to the

State of Idaho annually for the next 25 years for use of the shared space, making it a unique

agreement, one of only a few that exist in the nation.

Out of more than 400 NPS properties across the U.S., only a handful are co-locations with a state

entity to leverage human, financial, and historic resources.

“By linking the many units of Thousand Springs State Park with the world-class paleontology

assets of the National Park Service’s Hagerman Fossil Beds, we are leveraging our resources to

provide better programs to visitors while saving significant taxpayer dollars,” says David Lang-

horst, IDPR Director.

Initial funding for the project was made available in part through an Idaho RV Fund Grant. The

use of Idaho RV Funding was reviewed, ranked, and prioritized for funding by the Idaho RV Fund

Advisory Committee in March 2019. (con’t p15)

HAGERMAN FIRE DISTRICT By Tim Peterson, Fire Chief

Soon we will be biding farewell to 2020, I don’t think anyone is sad to see it go. Gathering with family and friends is com-ing in the next couple of weeks, please remain diligent and aware that the COVID is still on the prowl. We came through Thanksgiving pretty good, much better that we were expecting, whatever you did, it worked. We had very little COVID responses in the two weeks after Thanks-giving. If traveling through the holidays be weather aware and check road conditions and adjust your travel time. We are moving ahead with the purchase of another new defibulator (AED), if you remember we purchased one last year for our first out response unit, this additional AED will go on our second out unit. Hav-ing two of the same AED units streamlines training and allows the same standard of care on both response units. This pur-chase is made possible by a team effort

involving donations from the community, funding through the Twin Falls County Ambulance District, the Annual QRU Fundraiser Inc., and the remaining costs funded by the Fire District. The cost of this project is $35,000.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas

Pete’s Patch: Hagerman Valley Foundation is preparing the 2021 Birding Season.

We expect the first event will be the weekend of Jan 16-17. (depending on the birds). These Bird Tours will include a Saturday sunset tour of bald eages at the Eagle Tree, then an early Sunday morning tour of the winter bird spectacular! Please call to reserve a spot on one or more of this tours.

We have many more events planned for this spring, one of which includes the sage hen, sand hill cranes, Trumpeter swans, long bill curlews in late February - early March in Bliss. We also hope to see elk, deer, antelope, yes, and even a moose family if we are lucky.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about migration and its effect on the Magic Valley and see some beautiful wildlife.

We have a Backyard Bird Festival planned for April with many activities in-cluding hosted tours, and are right now focused on our Barn Owl Box pro-gram, getting nesting boxes for barn owls to control rodents and save owls.

Please call the office at (208) 536-0094 to get more information about any of these programs, and to get on our notification lists. If necessary, please leave a message so we can get back to you right away.

I would like to give a Pete’s Patch hats off for the lights on our Main street on Highway 30. For the past 3 years, Southern Idaho Tourism has invested in Hagerman. What a gift! It makes Hagerman a more desirable place to visit, stop and do a little shopping while enjoying our unique and beautiful town and area in which we live.

Thank you Melissa Barry!

Save Time & Money!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

2020 is behind us and I am looking forward to another great year full of accomplishments.

I'd like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for the Christmas Spirit in the donation of having the lights put in the park and on City Hall.

The small businesses had a lot of fun festivities that continue to make our small community such a success.

At City Hall we are already looking forward to the new projects that Spring is going to bring, one of which is the road work on 3rd street.

With the interest from a savings account, an Idaho Power franchise fee and the council deeming all the money to go to roads, hopefully in the next few years our roads will be better fixed and maintained.

In the spring, Idaho Power will be moving telephone poles on state street as well.

This is the start of helping the city get our sidewalks ADA Compliant.

I wish you the best in 2021.
