OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS OF
EAST GREENBUSH:Letter to the Editor: People have asked what else the new EastGreenbush Town Board new majority of Keith Langley, DebDiMartino and Mary Ann Matters did at the January 2, 2014Organizational Meeting. Here’s a sampling:• Appointed District 2 County Legislator Phil Danaher asAssistant Town Attorney-for the Planning Board at an annualsalary of $18,000 or an $11,000 increase AND as AssistantTown Attorney-for the Zoning Board of Appeals at an annualsalary of $10,000. In fairness, Legislator Danaher declinedthe latter position, but kept the $1,500 per month PlanningBoard position.• Increased the annual salary of Director of Finance MeaghanHart from $35,500 to $45,500 or $10,000 (+28%) after ascant two years on the job.• Gave Deputy Supervisor Ed Gilbert an annual salary of $3,000.Decreased the salaries of the new Senior Court Clerk and twohold-over Court Clerks by $21,835 ... $11,935 of which comesfrom the former Senior Court Clerk … a 27% pay cut.As mentioned in my January 16 letter, “the new majority alsoabolished a hand full of positions”. These positions are listedbelow. Yes, these abolitions will save a sizable amount ofmoney, but no mention was made as to whether the functionswould continue to be performed by consultants or, in the caseof the DPW Laborers, by overtime, or not be performed at all.• Town Engineer• Town Planner• Code Enforcement Officer• Secretary/Town Attorney• Staff Accountant (Part Time)• DPW Laborer• DPW LaborerNYS Town Law §52 states “The supervisor shall be the chiefexecutive officer of a suburban town and head of theadministrative branch of town government. He shall beresponsible for the proper administration of town affairs, lawenforcement and the maintenance of peace and order in thetown.”Yet, the Supervisor appointed himself as Liaison to the PoliceDepartment, Comptroller, DPW, Planning, Zoning, BuildingDepartment, and Solid Waste. Is he not already responsiblefor these Departments as “the chief executive officer of asuburban town and head of the administrative branch of towngovernment?”I was remiss in my January 16 letter in not wishing the newmajority well. I do wish them well, for their success is theTown’s success.~ Pete Stenson, East GreenbushEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

WELCOME TO EMARIKA COMRADELetter to the Editor: For many years now, conservatives havebeen raising the alarm that unrestrained government spendingwould eventually lead to financial ruin. Whenever we get soloud that our liberal political leaders can no longer pretend notto hear, they offer superficial solutions that do nothing toaddress spending. More often than not, they propose targetedtax cuts that shift the tax burden from one taxpayer toanother, always blaming “the rich” for not paying an everelusive, ever changing “fair share”.We’ve reached a point where those who are doing the taxingare in fact the rich themselves. They’ve become rich at theexpense of those who’ve always been the backbone of oureconomy, the fiscally conservative main street businesscommunity. We’ve always called for reducing spending becauseit’s the only real solution. But our political leaders have beendistracting the rest of the voting public with gimmicks likeoffering tax breaks as incentives for new business development. This is the worst of the non-solutions, because the newbusinesses use the tax breaks to reduce their overall cost ofdoing business and effectively steal customers from the existingoppressed main street businesses. Even if the new, rich tobegin with, under-taxed businesses grow and even if the oldover-taxed businesses survive, they won’t even be able tomeet the government’s current spending levels let alone theirannual spending increases or accumulated debt. This is what galls me most about our public schools again usingthe palatial school auditoriums they’ve built with our tax dollarsto conduct another massive, region wide pep rally where theywill again plead poverty to those who will again vote to spendother taxpayers’ money. Our public school budget voting process is an abomination todemocracy. How do you think voters would react if in the generalelections we were given one political candidate to vote “yes”or “no” for? To top that off, how would you like it if the majorityvoted “no” but that candidate got imposed on us anyway?Would you tolerate that? Would you vote with your feet? Whatif there was no longer any place to escape to?~ David Crawmer, www.republicamerica.usEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

2014 SORENSCO BABE RUTH BASEBALL
REGISTRATIONSorensco’s 2014 baseball registration is now open!Sorensco will be commemorating 60 years of BabeRuth Baseball this year, and we are looking forwardto another great season. Sorensco is a community-based baseball league for players 13-18 years ofage that offers an exceptional and very affordable baseballexperience for players and their families. Levels of play/seasons include Recreational, Travel and All-Stars.As we have done in the past, we will again be implementingthe ability for players deemed sufficiently skilled to “play up”with a higher age group if they qualify. This will allow playersto be placed at their skill level instead of their age only and willapply to each of our three seasons across all age groups.Additionally, those players age 15 and under who try out andmake our Connie Mack (18u) or Mickey Mantle (16u) teams willnot be required to be placed on a Recreational team roster. We anticipate that these rule changes will provide tremendousflexibility for players who qualify.
