DORI SALISBURY RUNNING FOR AVERILL
PARK SCHOOL BOARDOver the years, I’ve sat through more than my share of Boardmeetings. I’ve watched person after person, be they parent, student, teacher, bus driver, or concerned taxpayer, pleadtheir case before the Board of Education, seeking answers.I’ve fought for my child and yours, arguing for AP classes, sports, music, and probably any other thing you can think of.Why? Because I care about the success of this District and itsstudents. My family is fortunate to have graduated four generationsfrom Averill Park Central Schools. My parents, Roger and SandyYoung, were members of the first class to graduate from the“new” high school. I am a member of the Class of 1979 atAPHS. My husband, Bill, and I chose to raise our only child,Jason, in this district, providing him with all the benefits AverillPark had to offer and preparing him for a successful future.I love Averill Park. It’s been my home for my entire life. My sonand I were both fortunate to be educated by wonderfulinstructors who very carefully molded us into the adults we’vebecome. The administrators nurtured and supported us, bothas students and as adults. My dad instilled in me a strong sense of community andresponsibility to that community. This is why I am running forthe Board of Education. I believe that every member of thedistrict has a right to expect representation from its electedofficials. I also believe that the Board of Education is accountableto its constituency. I believe that there needs to be a system ofchecks and balances in this district. I believe that our firstpriority MUST be to our educational programs but that prioritymust be balanced by what the community can bear. I believethat every student deserves the same opportunities my sonand I both had. I believe that my 20+ years of financial analysisand accounting experience has prepared me well to tackle thistask.Together, we can make a difference! Please email me [email protected] for more information. Thank you foryour support.~Submitted by Dori Salisbury

GLANTON ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR
AP BOARD OF EDUCATIONMy name is Cheryl Glanton; I am a mother of five AP studentsfrom Kindergarten through a freshman in high school. Iunderstand firsthand how important it is to provide an excellenteducation for all the children in our community; therefore, I ampleased to announce my candidacy for AP Board of Education. In addition to being a parent, I am a businesswoman, who for17 years worked my way up through the ranks of manufacturingmanagement to become Global Sales and Operations PlanningManager for GE Plastics-Specialty Film and Sheet. I also spenttime as a stay at home mom, and currently I am a projectmanager for NYSERDA.As plant manager I had to make hard decisions, manage asignificant budget at the line item detail and react to rapidlychanging market conditions to meet business commitments. Imade decisions by talking to people with multiple views andexperience, digging into the data available and asking questions.I believe these are the skills required of the Board of Education.I am active in the Miller Hill-Sand Lake PTA, currently serving astreasurer. Previously I led the team that completed thefundraising, design and construction of the new Miller Hill-SandLake playground. I am a lector and teach faith formation forSt. Henry’s Church. Since 2007 I have been part of the APLong Range Planning Committee. Here is my agenda: Provide the best education possible for allthe students in the district, which includes academics, athleticsand extra-curricular activities. I recognize that taxpayers don’tprovide a “blank check”; every penny must be spent wisely. Inorder for our district to retain its excellent reputation long
term, we must workt o g e t h e r — t a x p a y e r s ,teachers, administrators andboard members alike— toensure that our children havethe highest quality educationpossible so they can thriveand contribute to society andour community in the future.I believe I have the skills andexperience to be a positivepart of the AP Board ofEducation, please vote forCheryl Glanton on May 17th.~Submitted by Cheryl Glanton

EPA RESCINDS MILK SPILL REGULATIONS ON FARMSFollowing an outcry from farmers and local elected officials, including members of the RensselaerCounty Legislature, the federal government has announced farmers will be exempted fromcontroversial regulations that would have treated a milk spill the same as an oil spill.County lawmakers, led by Majority Leader Ken Herrington, whose family operates a dairy farm, hadvoiced concern about the new regulations in February. Herrington and other farmers said the newregulations would result in new and higher costs for farmers already facing poor market conditions. “This was a bad idea, and an example of unnecessary and out of control government regulations. It is good that farmers will be exempted from what would have been a costly regulatory disaster,”said Herrington. The exemption of farmers from the oil spill regulations was announced April 13 byU.S. Senator Charles Schumer. “Northeast farmers have enough to deal with, given the tougheconomy and tough markets. These regulations would have meant real problems for dairy farmersand it is good news for the dairy industry that they will be exempted from these onerous rules,” saidLegislator Alex Shannon, Curiously, at the time, Herrington and other county lawmakers voicedconcern about the proposed regulations to treat a milk spill the same as an oil spill the EPA denied theproposal existed. EPA spokespeople even made public comments that farmers would not be includedin any new oil spill regulations. Herrington pointed out editions of the Federal Register in 2010 clearlyshowed the regulations to require dairy farmers to treat milk spills as oil spills were set to go intoeffect. “We cannot help but be concerned that the EPA is now exempting farmers from regulationsthat they originally claimed did not exist. It underscores our concerns about over-regulations evenmore, when one end of the bureaucracy does not know what the other end of the bureaucracy isdoing,” said Herrington.Editors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinion or endorsement of the

Provides A
Closer Look At ...We all want time to enjoy the good things in life. If you’re in the 55-plus senior category, you probably have a much different
opinion on what you deem the good life to be and how you envision spending your days.
For many, that may involve a move. We often hear, “We’re thinking of downsizing, selling the big family home and having less
to take care of...What are our choices for living arrangements?”
That’s what originally brings people to Shelly Park. They choose to stay and buy a home here because we offer a unique blend
of home ownership, affordability, care-free low maintenance one-floor living and community atmosphere that doesn’t exist else-
where in the Capital District. With sidewalks throughout and community center clubhouse, you are bound to find residents out
riding bikes, walking dogs, or catching up over a cup of coffee.
Nestled in the serene countryside of the town of Northumberland. Shelly Park is 7 miles to either Exit 15 or 16 of the Adirondack
Northway, putting you just minutes to shopping, medical services, banking, dining and historic downtown Saratoga Springs, as
well as easy access to Albany and the Adirondacks. And, of course, with no more yardwork, you now have time to take in a few
rounds of golf just down the road at the championship Airway Meadows Golf Course.
Nancy and Tammy welcome you to Shelly Park. They are both full-time real estate agents with more than 20 years combined
experience specializing in real estate for seniors and can assist you with every detail for deciding: Is now the right time to move?
What is the right place for me? And how do I get my house ready to sell and get it sold?

PAM TATAR ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY
FOR AP SCHOOL BOARD
My name is Pam Tatar and I am asking for your support as I runfor re-election for the Averill Park School Board. During thepast 6 years serving as a board member, I have stayed focusedon our district’s goals and policies to improve studentachievement, and concentrated on maintaining the bestpossible programs. At the same time, I have always strived tostay aware of District spending, assuring that we are followingour budget guidelines. I have supported budgets that havecontrolled expenses while maintaining those best programs, always looked at the big picture, anticipating what lies aheadin our future, both financially and academically. I have remainedopen-minded, relied on facts and remained unswayed by anypersonal bias or vested interests. In order to be better equipped to solve difficult problems facingour district, I have devoted a substantial amount of timeparticipating in New York State School Board Association(NYSSBA) training This past June, I was honored with theNYSSBA’S Board Mastery Award. More recently, I was proudly
appointed to the NYSSBA Cultural Diversity Committee. Havingbeen part of NYSSBA’s advocacy team, I have supported andwill continue to support the mission to advance needed schoolfunding reforms and seek mandate relief that will truly benefitour schools. At a time when dramatic changes are happening in the worldwe live in, we need to prepare our students for the increaseddemands of the 21st century. We can no longer afford toeducate our children the way its always been done; times havechanged. I have many thoughts and ideas — I’d be happy todiscuss them either on the phone at 674-0302, [email protected] or ask the candidates a question on...WE LOVE OUR AVERILL PARK SCHOOLS!! Facebook page. I willcontinue to strengthen education in a fiscally responsiblemanner. Please support Pam Tatar on May 17th.~Submitted by Pam Tatar
