This advert featured on an H&M website, uses several different advert conventions in order to sell their products. The photographers have captured all three people smiling and enjoying what they are doing while walking along a clear blue coast line and along white sands. This is something that people associate with summer times and summer holidays and therefore becomes something that the audience of this advert will associate with their shop. The company also uses their logo, placed in the bottom right corner of the page as something that people will recognise. This advert also makes a point to include both men and women so the fashion does not just appeal to one gender. This way, the company are broadening their window for customers. I have decided that the advertisements on my newspaper will be aimed at both men and women to attract a wider audience.

iPad Competition Advert

The image shows an advertisement for the opportunity to win an iPad. This advert uses gender neutral colours such as red and green which avoids the advert appearing limited to appealing to one gender. In terms of graphics, the advert is very busy and includes lots of various shapes and text formats such as bold bubble lettering and white writing on a green block, making it look like a button. This is done to make it look eye catching and also stick with the theme of modern technology. As this advert is for an iPad 2, it is a representation of modern technology and therefore the company has tried to fit the graphics with that theme. This is because everyone associates Apple products with a massive proliferation of hardware and as one of the most technologically advanced companies in the world. However, the use of such background and text could cause the actual iPad to appear lost on the page as well as the advert appearing much too busy for the page. Therefore its much more likely that I will incorporate the idea of simplicity within my advert so that it doesn't appear too overpowering on the page.

On the front cover of The Bristol Post, there is an advert banner at the very top of the cover page. In the top left hand corner, there is an advert offering the chance to win a cruise to the Caribbean. The editors have purposely only offered a brief description about the competition and have instead included a jump line for where to continue reading. In the advert a picture of a tropical scene with a cruise ship sailing is featured. This is done so that readers view the advert and see something that looks relaxing and beautiful, which makes them want to opportunity themselves. The bright blue colours and sunny backdrop allows people to associate the competition with holidays – of which everyone has positive connotations of. This particular issue was released during autumn and is around the time most people are going back to work and are missing the summer. This advert then works well to draw people who want a sunny break, in.

The Bath Chronicle Advert Banner

This particular newspaper features an advert banner at the very bottom of the front cover. Here there is a sale at ‘Silcox Son & Wicks’ furnishing store which advertises their sale for 50% off. As this is is a big offer, they have made a point to make sure it takes up a larger amount of space than the usual advert. The editors have used a plug feature to put the main offer, 50% off LaZy Boy Beds, in a green circular tag. This jumps out to readers and draws their attention to the fact that there is a sale.
