Grooves expel water

These grooves create flex points in the tire, especially in the contact patch

This can cause instability, increased wear, & cause the tire to overheat

Adding sipes (very thin grooves) enables faster warm up as the tread flexes more & creates heat (similar to race tires)

Sipes have interlocking 3D points limiting flex to control excessive heat generation
