Sunday EducationDECEMBER LESSONSIn Sunday School preschool-5th gradestudents will learn about:

• Isaiah’s prophecy about the baby whowould come and be called Immanuel.

• The angel who visited Joseph to tellhim Mary would bear a son who wouldsave people from their sins and that heshould give the baby the name Jesus.

• The story of Jesus’ birth, the angelswho told the shepherds where to findhim, and the shepherds visit to Mary,Joseph, and the Christ child.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAMDECEMBER 22 AT 9:30 AM

The Christmasperformance will includeparts for Middle andHigh School studentsand singing favorite

Christmas carols for preschool and up.

Rehearsals for the MS/HS students:

• Wednesdays, December 4, 11, and 18from 6:15-6:50 pm.

All youth will be practicing their songsduring the Sunday School hour onSundays, December 1, 8, and 15.

MUSTARD SEEDSEleven Pre-K-5th grade children andparents met Saturday, November 23. Theyenjoyed Turkey games and crafts, createdThank You cards for servicemen andwomen, and ate Harvest snacks. They arelooking forward to their next adventure!

ADULT CLASSOn Sundays, December 8 and 15, in theFireside Room from 9:40-10:25 am, PastorBenson will lead a study on Advent themesin the Bible as we prepare for Christmas.

Preschool W.A.T.CH.Classes will resume January 8, 2014.Check the January VOICE for more info.

NOVEMBER’S REPORTWe just ended our food unit. Each Pre-Kchild brought an apple to class to helpmake some delicious applesauce. Thesmell permeating the Preschool wasdelightful and the applesauce was yummy.

While making the applesauce theylearned a special scripture verse, Psalm17:8, “Keep me as the apple of your eye,hide me under the shadow of your wings.”We learned God is our promise and thatpromise came true when Jesus was born.

WHAT’S NEW IN DECEMBERDecember is a special month filled withthe Christmas story about baby Jesusour Savior and the precious crafts madeby each preschooler for their families.

Preschoolers will also learn somefavorite Christmas carols. Parents andfamilies, join us to hear the children singduring the last 20 minutes of class time:

• Pre-K AM: December 18 at 11:25 am• Pre-K PM: December 18 at 2:50 pm• 2-Day classes: December 20 at

11:10 am. Both performances will beheld upstairs in the Sanctuary.

• 1-Day Toddler classes: Circle time atparent pickup the week of December 17

Christmas break is from December 23through January 3. May your Christmas befilled with precious memories.

recently. Pastor encouraged us towelcome and visit with them.

Ministry Action Reports:• Education: Ray Delgado reported that

five members of the Youth Groupparticipated in the Big Day of Serving.

• Fellowship: A group of women aretaking the church van to IKEA.

• Property: A T-Coil antenna system willbe installed in the Sanctuary formembers with hearing aids.

THE BIG DAY OF SERVING REPORT

The Big Dayof Servingwas a hugesuccess. Itmay havebeen cold andwindy,but we live in

Washington so it definitely could havebeen worse.

Five YOE members attended thisevent: Angela, Elizabeth, Ray, Daniel, andCourtney. In spite of the weather, it wasreally fun! We got to meet new peoplefrom different churches.

We first went to the Mukilteo YMCAand did tasks like folding towels,

cleaning up the new teen center, andputting labels on postcards. We thenwent back to Trinity Lutheran College tohave lunch and devotions.

After lunch we worked on the rooftopgarden and pulled weeds. We completedthat task within an hour and then helpedrake leaves by the parking garage. TheBig Day was so much fun and a greatlearning experience.

I encourage anyone who enjoyshelping others and the community toattend The Big Day of Serving next year!–Elizabeth

NWWA SYNOD YOUTH LEADERS’RETREAT REPORT

Ray Delgado, Virginia Dutcher, andCourtney Stepp attended this event atLutherwood in Bellingham. The themewas Intentionally Grounded. We wereable to connect with other ELCA childrenand youth leaders and share ourexperiences. Some of the highlights werePrayer Stations in the Chapel and aworkshop experiencing and practicingempathetic listening and understanding.

At the retreat we explored our calls toministry and our gifts and had time torelax, chat, and reflect. We learned waysto care for ourselves while caring for andnurturing others. –Ray, Courtney, Virginia
