A pilgrimage to Marian Shrines in Fatima and Lourdes will be hosted by

the Office of the Diaconate in conjunction with Ami Travel. The trip will

be held April 15 - 25, 2018 and will be hosted by Deacon Richard Hudzik,

Deacon Dave Brencic and Fr. Chuck Faso, OFM.

In addition to the Marian sites, there will be stops at sites made famous by St. Teresa of Avila,

St. John of the Cross and St. Ignatius of Loyola. All deacons, wives, parishioners, family and friends are

invited to join as we deepen our faith, travel with others, attend daily Mass and learn about some of the

Catholic Church’s greatest saints.

The cost is $3,495 per person and includes roundtrip airfare, 4-star hotel accommodations, buffet

breakfasts and eight dinners. There is a supplement charge for single rooms and there are additional

charges for taxes, tips and a fuel surcharge.

For more information, contact Deacon Richard Hudzik at 708/366-8900 or email him at

A Christmas Thank You Thank you to everyone who volunteered to buy gifts and donated money for the Christmas for Kids program. Because of the overwhelming generosity of so many people, we were able to put gifts under the Christmas tree for 71 children. Their parents were very grateful and many wanted blessings to be passed along to you. Thank you and God bless you for your kindness. Please remember to keep these children in your prayers in the new year.

Are You Being Called to Serve? St. Barbara's Missionary Spirit Team works to find service opportunities for our parishioners. Our goal is to give all parishioners an opportunity every month to serve someone in need. We look for opportunities to serve those in our parish, our local community and beyond. We have helped the hungry and the ill;

our parish and our environment; children and the elderly. Missionary Spirit Team grew out the Parish Transformation process. We were reminded that by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation we are all called to be missionaries, whether that be where we live, where we worship or where we work. We are called to reach out, as Jesus did, to help the poor, the sick and the sinner. The Missionary Spirit Team has a great group of volunteers that meet every couple months to plan our service projects. We are looking for new volunteers to join this team. If you feel like you are being called to help and would like to see if this is the right way for you to do that, please join us for our next planning meeting on January 12 at 7:15 pm in the Parish Center. Contact MissionarySpirit@StBarbara Brookfield.org or 708-485-5935 with any questions.

Your help is needed for the Parish blood drive St. Barbara's is hosting a community blood drive on

Sunday, January 14 in the Parish Center from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Please consider giving an hour of your time to donate blood. Here’s a story from the Kristina who knows that blood donors saved her life... Kristina, a hair stylist from Chicago was fit and active with no previous medical issues as she and husband Kevin were preparing to welcome their first child in 2014. But 15 minutes after giving birth to daughter Violet, Kristina was whisked out of the birthing room. She was suffering from postpartum hemorrhaging. She received 13 units of blood as well as platelets. Kristina said “I never thought something like this would happen. The reality is I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for people willing to donate blood.” Are you able to help a young mother? For more information please contact LifeSource Blood Services at 1-877-LIFESOURCE or www.lifesource.org. To make an appointment contact Noel Thornton at 708-485-5935 or [email protected].

PG 5 ǀ St. Barbara Catholic Church

Merry Christmas! The time of preparation comes to an end this weekend after the 12:30pm mass. We should feel ready for our Savior whether He comes again in glory for all humanity to see or at the hour of our death. Are we ready for Him? I am!

This year, Christmas comes a bit earlier than other years. In fact, we celebrate the 4th Sunday of Advent and Christmas Vigil on the same day (December 24th). The turn over time is really short so it’s going to be extremely hectic here this weekend between 1:30pm and the 4:00PM Family Pageant Mass. Someone already asked me to keep my homily short for the 12:30pm mass! I’ll do my best…

Thanks in advance to all who, in a few hours, are going to be helping transform the environment in church from Advent to Christmas. It’s going to be a challenging process but we always pull through—God is in command!

Since two different celebrations fall on this Sunday, someone asked me if we have to be at mass twice. The answer “Yes”! We are obliged to fulfill the 4th Sunday of Advent and Christmas Mass celebration but we do not have to go to mass twice on the same day. You can play around with the mass schedule (also included in today’s bulletin) to fulfill both days of obligation without having to be twice in church in one day. Whichever way you choose to do it, make sure you don’t miss the Cantata at 9:00pm on Sunday this weekend! Peter Bromann has put a lot of work into this. It promises to be great! Hopefully, you can all join us for that.

Please, make sure you visit our new Nativity scene. Rose Hernandez donated it and Frank Schmidt restored it to its original glory plus some. Thank them and congratulate Frank for the great job he did!

May the Lord bless you all as you gather with family and friends to celebrate the beautiful season of Christmas. Keep in mind the true meaning of this season; it’s all about love… Hope has arrived; let us rejoice and be glad!

From the Desk of Fr.
