The Bidding PrayerOfficiant: Dear friends in Christ, in the stillness and quiet of this church, we have gath-ered again at the beginning of an Advent Season, a season of waiting upon the Lord, who once came in the flesh as Savior and Redeemer of the world, and who will come again in glorious majesty to establish a rule of justice, peace and righteousness for all the earth.

Let us listen carefully to the readings which prophesied the first coming of “Emmanuel — God with us.” And in remembering the promises fulfilled in the past, find within ourselves a renewed sense of the presence of the one whose life and kingdom dwell in us.

During this service let us also pray for a renewed vision of God’s reign, that through our ministries and works the ancient prophesies may again be fulfilled in our time. And through our passionate commitment to the poor and the oppressed, the sick and the destitute, prisoners and hostages, the forgotten and the outcast, we may hear, see,

and know God’s gracious rule both within our hearts and in the common life of our society. May God give us ears to hear, minds to perceive and understand, and hearts ready to receive the Redeemer.

And now, to sum up all these petitions, let us pray in the words which Christ our Sav-ior has taught us, saying,

Everyone: OUR FATHER, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Officiant: May God bless us with grace; Christ give us the joys of everlasting life; and to the fellowship of the citizens above may the King of Angels bring us all. Amen.

My soul doth magnify the Lord : and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold, from henceforth : all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me : and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm : he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat : and hath exalted the humble and meek.He hath filled the hungry with good things : and the rich he hath sent empty away.He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel : as he promised to our forefa-thers, Abraham and his seed for ever.
