OVERVIEW
This comprehensive program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician national certification exam (CPhT, PTCE). Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining generic and brand names drugs. This program also includes training in customer support and key office applications.
Most states regulate pharmacy technicians in some way, and state requirements vary greatly. Prospective students should consult State Boards of Pharmacy for particulars on the pharmacy technician licensing requirements for their respective state prior to program enrollment.
Students who successfully complete the training program with 85% and higher completion grade have the option of participating in 120 hours of unpaid CVS externship experience (subject to location availability). Additional fees may apply for background check & drug screening test and state licensing application (if applicable). Students are responsible for these additional expenses.

Externship DetailsCVS Externship Details: 120 Hour Externship - Students must achieve an 85% grade or better on all course quizzes, module exams and final exam and complete e-learning program. To be eligible for the clinical externship process students must pass a background check and a drug screen to be placed in a pharmacy. Additionally, students need to be compliant with the state licensing requirements prior to the start of externship.
National Certification DetailsPharmacy Technician (CPhT) Exam requirements: Possess a high school diploma, or equivalent, and have successfully completed a related training program such as TAMUK’s Pharmacy Technician program, and be at least 18 years of age.
Pharmacy Technician certification requirements vary by state. Please consult the State Boards of Pharmacy websites for the exam required for your own state.
Transfer Agreement:
Upon successful completion of the Advanced Pharmacy Technician Program, students are eligible to receive 13.5 credits toward National American University’s Associate of Applied Science in Management Degree. Ask your admissions advisor to review the Articulation Transfer document.
