MediFox GmbH is leading the way in home care nursing services in Germany by providing superior software solutions for care providers. Now they’re teaming up with Nokia Lumia to bring the best in quality and performance to the home care business.

MediFox knew exactly who to turn to when they were looking

for a range of smartphones to showcase CareMobile, their

mobile assistant for nurses. With all the benefits of the

Windows Phone operating system, a range of price points

and an attractive and intuitive design, Nokia Lumia was the

winning choice.

“Besides the Windows Phone operating system and all

its advantages, Nokia has a very good reputation,” says Mr

Schlottig, Product Manager at MediFox. Presenting the app

on these superb smartphones helps convince customers

in the health care market of the quality of CareMobile.

“Everyone has had a Nokia phone at some point, so it’s

perfect for our customers and their nurses because

everyone loves the brand.”

Better and more efficient careCareMobile is an excellent example of how mobile phones

can revolutionise home care. It shows nurses where their

next patients are, provides a list of planned activities and

a dynamic checklist, and makes it easy to send patients’

vital-sign data directly to the main office. Instead of paper

lists and a master ledger, everything is updated in real time

and immediately available to relevant parties. “Each day

the nurses might visit completely different patients, whose

treatment and medication needs may vary,” Mr Schlottig says.

“CareMobile is a big advantage and makes many processes

much easier.” And the integrated navigation function with

turn-by-turn directions makes it easy for nurses to find their

patients without delay.

“The average increase in productivity is about 20%,” says Mr

Schlottig. If a care service has ten tours a day that serve ten

patients each, saving just one minute per patient adds up to

considerable cost and time savings each month. Each nurse’s

location is also pinpointed on a map, making it easier and more

efficient to plan routes and use personnel more effectively.

“It’s important to know where your nurses are and what they’re

doing, especially if an emergency occurs,” says Mr Schlottig. In

addition to speeding up daily tasks and processes, CareMobile

saves further time and resources by automating accounting

and billing work – all the data is just a click away.

High-quality assistance and great performanceMediFox evaluated different platforms before deciding to

develop CareMobile for Windows Phone. “Android is not

standardised enough for us,” explains Mr Schlottig. “You

have different display resolutions, different processor types,

different amounts of memory and different operating

system versions. Each new device would have to be tested

for compatibility. And the iPhone is too expensive. Ideally

each nurse should have their own device – and when you’re

buying 20 or 30, cost is a big factor.” Available at a range

of price points and running the standardised Windows

Phone operating system, the Nokia Lumia family met all of

MediFox’s requirements.

“It helps to have a strong, trusted brand as a partner,”

says Mr Schlottig. “We don’t have to convince our customers

of quality.” Nokia Lumia smartphones come with Nokia

Drive, Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft Outlook and more, so

there are many ways to share files, sync calendars and keep

data secure. CareMobile is integrated with many features,

including the camera so patients’ photos can be taken and

added to their master files remotely. It is also integrated

with the telephone, email and navigation functionalities.

“The feedback about the Nokia Lumia smartphones has

been very positive,” says Mr Schlottig. “They look good,

have brilliant displays and are fast.” Nurses have found them

easy and enjoyable to use and, in combination with the

CareMobile software, an intuitive and helpful tool in their

daily work. “Nokia makes the best phones and we make the

best healthcare applications,” says Mr Schlottig. “So we

make a great team.”
