Filtering by Domain or Location

• You can search within a particular domain:– Example:• site:.edu• site:.gov• site:.org• restaurants site:.au "Port Macquarie"

Filtering Search by File Type

• You can use a plus (+) sign to request a particular file type -- .ppt .doc .pdf .jpg

• You can also do it this way:

Boolean OR

• Use OR (in capital letters) to search more than one term

• Example:–Youth OR young workers

Google will retrieve sites with either word

Searching within a specific website

• You can search within a specific website. Example:– pdf site:www.aic.gov.au

This will retrieve PDF documents stored in the Australian Institute of Criminology site

• Note: There is no space between site: and the website address.

• Search within a site to find something on a particular topic
