APPLY WHAT YOU LEARN TODAY IN YOUR JOB TOMORROWIn the Industry 4.0 economic climate, employers prefer job-relevant education and training for improving the abilities of employees and for providing them with the necessary skills to apply what they learn today in their work context tomorrow. All academic programmes and modules are presented in English and due to the structure of all Cranefi eld’s academic programmes, students need to spend only one day per month away from work for classes.

Classes can be attended live, or live on-line via the internet. The rest of the time, student syndicate groups meet outside of work hours to discuss their practical case studies. Cranefi eld’s state of the art teaching and learning technologies allow classes, and even syndicate group meetings, to be attended live online via the internet anywhere in South Africa and the world.

The learning programme requires the execution of learning content (modules) in a specifi c order that is in line with the accepted national and international bodies of knowledge of this applied science. The different learning modules therefore are offered in a prescribed order.

OVERVIEWThe Advanced Certifi cate in Project Management comprises in-depth study of vital project management principles and techniques. A range of subjects allow students to integrate knowledge and skills such as organisational strategy, project management, procurement law of contract, and basic estimating, costing and pricing methodologies. These subjects provide students with the required competencies to be employed in various project management roles in both the public and private sectors and will enable students to follow different career opportunities nationally and internationally. It will also lay the foundation for access to Cranefi eld’s higher specialised qualifi cations in project and programme management.

Cranefi eld College’s Advanced Certifi cate in Project Management is designed for working professionals who wish to master the essentials of general management, Functional business management and apply PM skills and principles in a work context. The programme’s format and structure allow for fl exibility and meet the needs of working professionals who can only ‘afford’ to study part-time. It is fully aligned with PMI’s (Project Management Institute) PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge). Successful candidates who have suffi cient practical experience will be equipped to sit for the PMI’s PMP (Project Management Professional) certifi cation, and the less experienced for PMI’s CAPM (Certifi ed Associate in Project Management) certifi cation.

After completing the Advanced Certifi cate, students will be able to:• Understand and apply basic general management, as well

as functional business management practices and processes required in a project management contextual environment.

• Apply project management planning, implementation, and control knowledge and skills required to deliver successful projects that are on budget, within the scheduled time, and of high quality.

• Perform project accounting and contract management activities as part of the overall approach towards successful project management.

ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATIONAccreditationThe Advanced Certifi cate (AdvCertPM) is accredited by the Council on Higher Education at NQF level 6, with 120 credits (consisting of three modules of 40 credits each). The qualifi cation is registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training. It particularly serves to meet the need for a professional qualifi cation on the under-graduate level in project management.

Certifi cationThe (AdvCertPM) is fully aligned with the USA Project Management Institute’s (PMI) PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) and is an ideal route towards gaining international certifi cation as a CAPM (Certifi ed Associate in Project Management), and PMP (Project Management Professional). It is also fully aligned with the International Project Management Association’s 4-level certifi cation. These are deemed to be the internationally most important industry-recognised certifi cations for project managers.

PROGRAMME AVAILABILITYModule Mα is offered four times, while modules AC1 and AC2 are offered twice per year at Cranefi eld’s main tuition centre in Midrand, Gauteng, and streamed live online globally. This allows for fl exibility throughout the year to commence and continue with the programme.

If undertaken live online, or at the main tuition centre in Midrand, the learning programme can be commenced in any quarter of the year, as follows:

LEARNING MODECranefi eld College offers technology-enhanced distance learning. It entails the integration of self-study, live

online classes, traditional face-to-face classes, and online high defi nition (HD) videos of important topics. Cranefi eld’s learning mode is supported by its online Learning Management System (LMS).

CLASS ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTSAll modules (class-based or live online):

• Although Cranefi eld operates on a distance learning mode, students are advised to attend classes whether online or on on-site.

• It is particularly advised to participate in the fi rst lecture day of each module.

Lecture Session Times & Participation:

Duration: Five hours on a lecture day

Time: 08h00 - 13h00

Contact Days: 3 days of lectures per module, spread evenly over the three months duration of each module. For actual class

• After the formal morning lecture session, the auditorium facilities are at the disposal of attending students who wish to have syndicate group discussions.

• The lecturer will be available to assist with individual or group matters.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

A Higher Certifi cate, or at least a Senior Certifi cate (‘matric’ or international equivalent) coupled with relevant management experience and/or additional courses for the purpose of recognition of prior learning (RPL). For the purpose of RPL assessment, all relevant information and documentation, including a detailed curriculum vitae (particularly describing the applicant’s work experience) must be submitted to the Registrar (Academic). This category is designed to provide opportunities to those who meet the following criteria:

a. Have completed at least the National Senior Certifi cate (or international equivalent). b. Have been employed or vocationally active in the community for at least two years since earning the Senior Certifi cate, c. Have gained relevant management experience in the workplace, holding a position of authority and responsibility. d. Have completed relevant credible courses related to the required competencies at credible institutions.

Applicants must generally comply with at least a) to c) above, but evidence related to d) will also contribute signifi cantly to a favourable outcome and may obviate the need for c). Where an applicant has been identifi ed by his or her employer as having leadership potential resulting from Human Resources career-path tracking, it is suffi cient for him or her to comply only with a) and c) above.

LIVE ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING Cranefi eld College offers technology-enhanced distance learning. It

entails the integration of self-study, live online classes, traditional face-to-face classes, and online high defi nition (HD) videos of important topics. Cranefi eld’s teaching and learning mode is supported by its Blackboard Learning Management System.

With Cranefi eld’s technology-enhanced distance learning, all classes are streamed live on the Internet, and students may opt to participate in any or all of their classes online, thereby saving time and travel.

How does it work?• Cranefi eld uses its Blackboard Learning Management System as

a platform for the Live Online Distance Learning program which enhances the entire process for lecturers and students, also enabling students to attend classes interactively online.

• All classes are streamed live (from Cranefi eld’s Main Tuition Centre in Midrand, Gauteng) and students are able to see and ask questions from the lecturer.

• Remote students, including those in other countries, are now able to attend live classes via the Internet, or view recordings thereof.
