ADUfest is an international meeting of young active professionals from Belarus, Germany and Poland, who would like to develop their skills and to deep their knowledge in different fields. ADUfest is a get-together of active people, who feel responsibility for their society.

Thanks to this meeting members of young generation could improve their talents and to exchange experiences, learning from the like-minded people about non-formal education and intercultural communication, and also teaching other participants about very special process in neighbour countries and from their own job.

ADUfest is a powerful example for us, a German-Belarusian organizational team, about how important an international get-together is. We appreciate the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation very much! Thanks to it we could manage to organize a great international project by getting together interesting people, who will inspire us the whole next year.

Olga GaleckaTandem evening

The main aim of the workshop. There are several “language tables”, native speakers are sitting at these tables (Polish, English, French, German, etc.). Everyone comes to the table and begins to talk to his interlocutor. After- wards he can change the interlocutor. The idea of Tandem Evening was first implemented in Hrodno during my volunteer year, and I narrated about it at the workshop. Moreover, I added some simple games to learn a language itself. The goal of the workshop was to show to the participants that everyone is able to learn any language not only in a traditional way (attending courses, reading books, etc.).

Outcomes. The workshop contributed to the integration of the participants and it became a good opportunity to learn something new about different languages and see what they have in common. First, participants were divided into some groups and presented

certain features of German, Polish and Belarusian language; afterwards they tried to use it while working in “mixed” groups. As a result, each participant learned a lot of new words and useful information. I chose this topic because it’s exactly what I’ve worked with closely. It seems that the project had a success.

Hanna BaradzinaTeam-building activity

«Walking through the swamp»The main aim of the workshop – to enhance teamwork skills, trust in the group and notice the leaders in the group.

Rules. The participants have to cross “a swamp”, drawn on the ground, by stepping on the hummocks only. The Master of the game is the only person who knows which of the cells are hummocks. To find out where the hummocks are, a participant can step on any cell – if it’s a hummock, the Master is silent and the participant can continue searching for the next hummock, which can be only next to the previous hummock (any direction), no jumping through two or more hummocks. If the cell is not a hummock, the Master says, “Blob!” and the participant goes back to the start. Only one person at a time can be on the swamp area. When the participants find out the whole way through the swamp, all of them should pass to the other side, one by one. As soon as a participant makes a mistake, all of the people who already passed to the other side should come back and start the way again. Before the start, participants are given 10 minutes for discussing the strategy for the game, as during the activity they will have to be silent. No marking cells is allowed.

Time. 50 minutes and more (5 minutes for explanation the rules, 10 minutes for discussion, activity time, 15 minutes for final discussion).

Resources. The ground for the activity is drawn with chalk, sticking tape or made of paper sheets. It can be of any size, starting from 5x5 cells. For a bigger group like ours (around 30 people) it was 7x8.

Why this activity. The activity is ideal for establishing trust between group members at the beginning of a project. It also allows the participant to reflect on their interaction styles and leadership skills.

Outcomes. After all the participants pass to the other side of the swamp, they feel great relief and share their emotions and observations. The trust level in the group is enhanced, the leaders are found.

How other teams do that. Smaller teams who already know each other at least a bit tend to do this task faster. However, if there is a strong leader and the participants start cooperation and show high level of trust at the very beginning of the activity, the team has more chances to finish the task faster.

Ivan Sitsko Co-working: how the collective brain works

The main aim of the workshop. To tell and show the participants of ADUFest about the concept of working together with people of different professions, the so-called co-working.

Outcomes. The participants have learned and discussed the following:

–models of co-working that exist nowadays; –how co-working works and what purpose it has; –trends that are changing this phenomenon; –how much the space in co-working costs; –why start-ups and freelancers need a co-working; –what problems are solved through a teamwork; –the possible future for this phenomenon.

Stefania Kovalevskaya Brainstorming - a way to release creative thinking

The main aim of the workshop. Everybody has heard about brainstorming. But the fact that this method has a theoretical basis and specific rules, only some people know.

Outcomes. During the workshop we could see the main stages of brainstorming such as1) preparation (integration of the group, defining the purpose of brainstorming);2) creative part;3) analysis of the results.

HOWEVER, THE THEORY WITHOUT PRACTICE IS USE-LESS. THEREFORE, THE PARTICIPANTS HAVE USED THE METHOD AND FORMULATED THE MAIN CHALLENGES THAT YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FACED NOW.

Brainstorming has a number of excellent properties. Firstly, this method, especially in interdisciplinary / mixed groups, opens up new, innovative features to solve problems. Secondly, it is necessary to exclude the “inner critic” during the creative part of the brainstorming. It allows not only to strengthen creativity, but also greatly improve our mood! ANYONE CAN TRY TO MAKE A STOP MOTION MOVIE WITHOUT EVEN HAVING THE CERTAIN COMPLEX PROGRAMS OR DEEP THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE

The main aim of the workshop. To show participants how to create shortstop motion animations (e.g. video, which is formed from a sequence of pictures – a note):

–to show the participants, how to shoot stop-motion videos; –to tell the history of stop-motion; –to show some excellent examples how to inspire the participants; –to shoot the movie about ADUFest.

Outcomes. All the participants were involved into the process! I believe that the workshop was a success. Most interested participants even stayed after the workshop to make their own little movie. It’s just great!

Why this activity. I chose the workshop for the reason that anyone can try to make a stop motion movie without even having the certain complex programs or deep theoretical knowledge. All the movies look incredibly impressive!

Ruslan Rusetsky Myths about freelancing or some pieces of advice from

an experienced freelancerThe main aim of the workshop. The workshop was devoted to the popular model of interaction – freelance.

Why this activity. The theme was chosen not by chance. Firstly, I have accumulated considerable experience in this model. Secondly, more and more processes of the modern world choose this kind of work. Young people are interested in it.

Outcomes. The workshop became a lively discussion, during which we examined pros and cons of freelancing. Based on my experience, I made several recommendations on how to organize the work at a distance, how to develop and stay in high demand on the job market. We also examined the prospects of freelancing and the growth of its popularity.

1. Clearly define your specialization.2. Make a great portfolio.Portfolio is your appearance. Try to make it in such a way that one wants to work with you.3. Advertise yourself.Take part in tenders at freelance market, look for vacancies, send e-mails with offers of your services to the company of your profile. Do not expect that the customer would come and ask for something to do. Offer yourself.4. Grow as a professional .Do not stop. Educate yourself, try to learn related professions, and expand the field of your activities and the range of services.5. Relax.Balance time of work and leisure. Switch from work to leisure time, try not to be in one of the regimes for a long time.

Christine Sivchikova Draw me a sense of «All life as ADUFest»

The main aim of the workshop. To break stereotypes that drawing is only for selected people. To underline that it is an interesting and fun experience made for anyone.

Outcomes. It was to proposed participants to take part in few creative games, so everyone could feel joy of creating a small masterpiece of his own. I think it’s a good form, because it suites perfectly to the atmosphere of ADUfest. The main part of the workshop was dedicated to creation of the painting “Whole life is like ADUfest”. All participants became artists and worked for the first time on concept of the painting and then created as well as showed it on paper. Drawing became a good summary of ADUfest 3.0. You could see numbers of workshops, statistics of home-made khachapuri, time spent next to the fire, beautiful sights of Augustow and even maori dance (the so-called «Shabany» during the project) on it.

Yulia SymanovichBe a designer for yourself,

or 7 rules how to make it beautifulThe main aim of the workshop. During my work as a designer I understood that even if a person is not a designer, he usually feels that something is “not good” in the design.

Outcomes. During the workshop it was told about universal principles – clear and simple explanations of what is feeling “not good” in most cases. We all together tried to transform the feeling to clear explanations. It was my first attempt of such a workshop on a professional topic and I hope that I managed to show a little what modern design is and inspire participants to create something by themselves.

Tatyana Kovalyonok Advertising kitchen: how international agencies

cook their tasty productsThe main aim of the workshop. Whether we like it or not, but in the modern world, our desires are largely guided by what we see on TV, on billboards, banners in the internet.

WHO MAKES THESE EXCITING VIDEOS? WHAT TEAMS CAREFULLY LEAD A ONE-YEAR LONG PROJECT ON ORDER TO OUTPUT AN IMAGE WITH ONLY ONE OBJECT IN THE CENTER?

What roles exist in the agency teams and how they relate to each other? Is it always clear what have they meant by their product? These are the questions I wanted to discuss as a part of my workshop, tell and show by examples that agencies have a complex structure and are very internationally.

Outcomes. Based on some examples, we discussed one of the largest marketing trends of our time – social marketing: what it manifests itself and what are its roots. The desire to share such information arose on the basis of my personal experience in this area - last year I worked in the international crea- tive agency Saatchi & Saatchi Russia, where I received an incredible amount of knowledge in the field of marketing and advertising, which is simply impossible to keep inside!

Olesya Murovitskaya Non-verbal communication,

know yourself without wordsThe main aim of the workshop. The workshop was dedicated to the topic of non-verbal communication in the multi-cultural space. Face expressions, body movements, pitch of the voice and even the colors of clothes play a more significant role in the person identification than the words a person uses (in the ratio 93%). The workshop was aimed to show how gestures and face expressions can differ in different cultures and how this knowledge can help to avoid prejudices.

Outcomes. Through some examples and games it was shown how different we’re all despite all the global tendencies, how local cultures imprint and guide out behavior.Having studied the intercultural communication as a subject at the University I provided the participants with some theoretical database which could be more useful than practical examples.

Lyubov Krasnitskaya Passion about Spain

The main aim of the workshop. All of us know the words of the cartoon for children under the title “A dull day is getting brighter because of a smile. Rainbow will appear in the sky if you smile. Share your smile and it will return to you many times… ” While thinking about Spain I always have a big smile on my face. In my workshop I’d like to share with the participants the best experience I gained in Spain during my Erasmus studies. And of course it was done with a smile like Spaniards do it.

Outcomes. We started with a task on geography when the participants had to mark on a map of Spain such famous places like Ibiza, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Andalucia and … Gibraltar. Participants learned that Gibraltar was the only place in Europe where monkeys lived. However, this territory doesn´t belong to Spain but has a border. Thus, in the quiz the participants learned why Spanish people ate 12 grapes on the New Year Eve, where Antonio Banderas´s hometown was and what languages and dialect were spoken in Spain.

THROUGH MY WORKSHOP I WANTED TO SHARE WITH OTHERS MY PASSION TO THE SPANISH CULTURE, PEOPLE, ITS LANGUAGE AND THE COUNTRY IN GENERAL. I BELIEVE THAT AFTER MY WORKSHOP MORE PEOPLE WILL FOLLOW EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO OR WILL START LEARNING THE SPANISH LANGUAGE.

During the master class, we wanted to understand whether there’re differences between the drivers belonging to different biological sex. I think during our collaboration, we were able to find out these differences, to note them and understand how to avoid conflicts

on the road. I chose this topic because I work as a teacher of theoretical knowledge in a driving school. I noticed the trend of recent years that’s an increase in the number of female drivers on the road. We discussed that topic together. In general, I liked ADUFest, and I would like to use many useful things in my work.

Maxim WasilewskiVegetarian food is delicious

The main aim of the workshop and its outcomes. The workshop showed how a person could cook delicious and healthy food from the ordinary products. While we cut the potatoes and brie cheese and talked about vegetarian food, shared our own experience and recipes, discussed who and how became e.g. a vegetarian. The exact theme for the workshop was chosen because I have recently stopped eating meat and I have not adopted myself to the new diet completely.

The main aim of the workshop and its outcomes. Nutrition is one of the main components of our healthy life. Nutrition should be varied and balanced. Spices can diversify food. A man tried to make food different with the help of varied aromatic plants even in the Stone Age. Spices formed the basis of Indian cuisine, which existed for centuries. We prepared several Indian dishes at the workshop.

Vitus ZavadskiKhachapuri in an adjarian way

The main aim of the workshop and its outcomes:In the best tradition of cooking shows, we prepared dinner for ADUFest.

THE RECIPE

Dough- 500 g of flour (sifted necessarily);- 1 small spoon of sugar;- 0.5 teaspoon of salt;- 10 g of dry yeast;- 400 g of warm milk;- 1 teaspoon of dairy butter.Mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Then pour the milk and butter. Knead the paste for 10-15 minutes and to talk with the dough and listen to the georgian music. When the dough is ready, leave it for 1 hour in a warm place.

The filling:500 g of cheese (mixed with 1 egg). It is best to take imerytynski cheese but one can also use suluguni or gowda.Bake for 15-20 minutes at a temperature of 210-220 degrees. When the khachapuri is ready, add a raw egg, and some dairy butter.

Lyubov KaspiarovichFantasy is unexpected strength

The main aim of the workshop. An improvised theater is a little bit crazy thing, and everyone can be an actor. The main thing is not to pinch your imagination and just do what comes first to your mind. After all, this is the «genre» of the play, which exists only once.It is really important to establish contact and understanding in the team. Therefore, the first task was aimed to know each other again and to establish trust between the actors who will be able to respond spontaneously to the plot of the play.

Outcomes. What did we do?

First. The team stands in a circle. There is one participant in the center; his eyes are tied with the scarf. Each person comes to this participant, touches a certain part of the body and calls the name. The main character associates the name with the touch. After two touches each participant again comes to the main character, touches him in the same place, but do not mention the name. The protagonist must remember and guess who is next to him. Second. To warm up the team, we played AtomMaus.Third. It is time to experience the fantasy. We again stand in a circle. One participant holds an apparent coin. He looks at it, doing something in the imagination, showing the process with gestures, facial expressions, movements, turns it into a new object and throws to the next person. Thus, the coin

can be swallowed, turned into a tank or a butterfly, any object.Fourth. What makes you feel one another? Music. We made a real melody using objects that were at hand (sludge, wood, stones, empty bottles). It was rhythmically cool.Fifth. Finally, the team is ready to play together. The first attempt was just awesome.

Volha TurloGreen partisaning

When ADUFest participants heard that my workshop was called «Green partisaning», most of them prepared to run through the woods and to hide from someone. In fact, “green guerrilla” is a person who is trying to change the environment on his own, engaging in planting plants in the urban wastelands. Of course, it should be a partisan weapon – an ecological bomb! Therefore, following the theoretical introduction and the story of the green movement we set to practice: make these “bombs” from the soil, clay and seeds of various plants!. I hope that participants of my workshop are involved in the green movement after our successful “attack” at the nearest place, and that my non-satisfaction with the current state of the environment in the world inflamed their hearts, too.

Bartłomiej WanotEsperanto

Since ADUFest is an international exchange, in which we use different languages for communication, I decided to talk about an old project that was aimed at the elimination of the problem of misunderstanding and language barriers. Moreover, the author of this project was born and lived close to Augustow, where our meeting took place. Esperanto was born in the end of XIX century created by Ludvik Zamenhof, and is now spreading rapidly throughout the world. This very simple language is spoken by millions of people, there are newspapers and books, films. During the workshop, I wanted to show participants how easy it is to explore all the grammar rules, to understand Esperanto word formation and remember basic words and phrases. After just one lesson, the students were able to read and understand poems and articulate a few words. But with all this we have managed to combine science with fun and learn new things without much effort. And now, back home, we are all waiting for the final victory of the international language Esperanto!

Dance Maori + Poing

I gladly agreed to share with ADUFest participants what I do best – dancing. I chose something which was the most exciting challenge: the islanders Maori war dance with an ancient history and rituals. The dance which unites, inspires and sets up a team to win. Exactly what we needed!

While preparing for the workshop I was so imbued with the history of the people that it has not been difficult to start speaking their language (well, almost wasn’t). First there was the history of the Maori, with illustrations made by myself and trying to at least read the lyrics. While shouting «and upane kaupane vhakavhitsi ter ra», I read a bit of confusion in the eyes of the participants. Well, let’s start to dance. Here came the show. We started shouting out the song, dancing wild movements, improvise and laugh hysterically at ourselves. It was obvious that after this we really became a team! It was interesting to see how smart, serious, grown-up people threw away all the barriers and completely surrender to the process, creating a frenzied energy. For dessert, we had a small master class about poing at the lake.

I was delighted with the results of the workshop. Our mornings began with cries of “Hoo” and “Hoopane!” in response. We danced the dance throughout ADUFest and even after it. It really brought us together, of which I am extremely pleased. Of course, 99% of my success were the people who have become a part of all this bacchanalia. Thanks to all participants for their originality, openness and unquenchable positiveness. Hoo to everyone!

Thanks to three-years of personal experience in entrepreneurship and development of KARALI brand, I managed to give practical advice and communicate information about the specifics regarding Belarusian taxation. These were the most interesting aspects for the participants.

AIM OF THE WORKSHOP HAS BEEN TO STRENGTHEN CONFIDENCE OF THE PAR-TICIPANTS AS WELL AS TRYING TO CREATE THEIR OWN IDEAS FOR THE BENEFIT OF NEW BELARUSIAN BUSINESSES, FULLY GENERATED BY BELARUSIANS.

Currently, handmade soap and porcelain are produced under Belarus under KARALI brand. A unique brand was created and our own Belarusian historical edition for each type of soap. Each of them has a name and story inspired by an outstanding event in Belarusian history. Porcelain and bathroom accessories are engraved by Belarusian vytsinanka ornaments, noble emblems and knights’ spikes ornaments, all inspired by Belarusian culture and history. Everyone communicates differently and sees the world differently. During the workshop we tried to find out how to ask the right questions to get the right answers, counted how many words appear in our mind per minute, were looking for ways to communicate with people with different communication styles.Assertive people who state their opinions to others in a respectful manner while those who are aggressively attacking others and impose their opinions on others, and passive people just waiting while the situation will change: Is it possible to find a common language with everyone? We decided – YES and we were working on the strategy.

The workshop has been a combination of my 3 passions: psychology, dancing and theatre. Dance improvisation makes my heart beat faster and happiness raises. Dancing evokes everything that is the best in me. The aim of the workshop has been that the participants could catch this type of feeling. Move can often express a lot more emotion than words and it reflects our inside. The participants have had the opportunity to show various feelings in a nice atmosphere. I think that physical and intellectual workshops on ADUfest perfectly balance each other. I am glad that I have been among these inspired people.

THE PARTICIPANTS TRIED TO IDENTIFY A SITUATION IN LIFE AND TO UNDERSTAND, THAT WE FORGET EASILY IMPORTANT MEMORIES BY DOING SOME-THING IN DIFFERENT WAY.

How to deal with these problems? With creative use of anthropological methods! This has been done during discussions and conversations. By such casual way participant became acquainted with anthropology in practice. Wider idea of the workshop was to show people that there are plenty of methods which we learn during school, studies, at work and in general often they can be useful in our private life.

The main aim of the workshop. Project Management Skills have become essential for our daily work. But nobody learned specifically the methods or the theoretical basis when it comes to this topic.

Outcomes. During the workshop we revised project management techniques such as:1) methods and checklists for project management;2) strategic and operative project management theory;3) essential qualities of project leaders (effective communicator);4) simulation game: participants applied the new methods immediately during a game in small groups.

ADDITIONALLY, A VERY ACTIVE DISCUS-SION ON PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES REGARDING PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH GROUP WORK CONCLUDED THE WORKSHOP.

SummaryDuring my work as a lecturer of Robert Bosch Foundation at the Belarusian State University in Minsk, I had the great opportunity to get to know to Adukacyja.info, an informational online-portal in Belarus, which is sharing educational opportunities for young Belarusians with the aim of bringing on an independently thinking, self-confident, pro-active and responsible generation of young Belarusians. In summer 2015, Adukacyja.info was able to realise its annual meeting at international level due to the great support and confidence of the Robert Bosch Foundation and of many committed volunteers from Belarus, Poland and Germany.Taking it from here, I would like to state some quotations of participants which sum up this great experience of which I am grateful to having been part of. The quotations are part of answers to the evaluation-question about the most significant change ADUfest generated on its participants.

“ADUfest is an event where young intelligent and active people show their professional and personal achievement. I don’t like meetings […] where political issues are discussed. ADUfest is different and [has got] an unique content.”“The atmosphere at ADUfest is informal and during the conversations I learned many important advices for my job and my professional development. I will follow these advices.”“The most important thing was to see how from little ideas we can create a big interesting project. After a meeting like that you can believe more in yourself and in [the fact] that with small things you can create something bigger and more important.”

To counter-argue any prejudices that exist about the country itself, there is a valid number of young Belarusians, ready to undertake positive changes in Belarus by providing a wide range of cutting-edge educational opportunities. Based on my teaching experiences in Belarus, I value the aim of Adukacyja.info to help young Belarusians to acquire skills for planning their future and to facilitate their transition from educational institutions to the labour market - within Belarus and abroad.

“My eyes still keep widening. In [a] world of excessive information, people [..] lose the [contact] to people [because] they think that all the information is available on the internet. What a mistake – I understood being here.”“As for the most significant change, the workshop [about human rights] made a big change in my way of thinking – now I know how to behave in case of meeting a policeman.”

Adukacyja.info facilitates the process of learning, knowledge, skills, values and beliefs of young Belarusian people and, secondly, their storytelling, discussions, trainings and provision of information is helping to promote culture understanding and tolerance.

“We are from different countries and I was very astonished that Poles speak Belarusian language while I have a lack of good knowledge of my native language.”“We must be brave to dream and go forward towards our dreams. There are no borders in life – a person can build himself. Everything is possible.”

My personal wish for the future is that more people, foundations and international organisations will encourage the idea of creating a place of inspiration and motivation for young people in Belarus to discover the world by education. Furthermore, I am hoping that comments like “the first time I met a lot of Belarusian-speaking Belarusians” will occur more often in Belarus itself and not only during an event in Poland.
