Principal’s Message
On behalf of Admiral staff, I would like to wish all of our students and their families good health and happiness over the next two months. The tremendous support of the Admiral community members and parents has been very appreciated throughout this past year. Our volunteers make such a positive difference in our school and I hope that in September, we will be lucky enough to have even more volunteers in our classrooms. Our School Council members are a dedicated group who work so hard to provide a variety of wonderful opportunities for our students and our Breakfast for Learning program is much appreciated by our students every week. Thank you everyone for your continued support.
One generation plants the tree, The next sits in its shade. (unknown) Enjoy your holidays! Fran Dillon
END OF YEAR NEWSLETTER
Mrs. Dillon Retires!
It is with mixed emotions that I say good-bye to
the Admiral students, their families and this great
community. After my 32 year career as an
educator, I am looking forward to the next
phase of my life, however, I am already missing
the Admiral family that has come to mean so
much to me. It is hard to believe that I have
been a part of Admiral for the last 9 years. Time
flies when you are having fun and enjoying
every working day. Admiral will always hold a
very special place in my heart. The support that
I have received from students and their parents,
staff and the community, through both the ups
and downs of an administrator’s job, has been
incredible. As I look forward to new
opportunities and adventures, I am very sad to
say good-bye to such a very special community
and school. Thanks to everyone for
contributing to the great educational experiences
that we have shared over these years. I feel very
privileged to have been a part of this
community. I wish each of you every happiness
and success for the future.
I would like you to join me in welcoming Sheri
McHardy, who will be your new principal. I
know that you will give her a warm welcome as
she joins the Admiral Collingwood community!

The school office will be closed as of July 3rd

Welcomes and Goodbyes! We are pleased to welcome the following staff to Admiral for the 2015-2016 school year: Karina Sheldrake, Sara Wallace and Rebecca Barr who have been on maternity leaves and Annette Carter who has been on a medical leave. Good-bye to Julia Bosse who has accepted a teaching position at Cameron Street Public School starting in September 2015. Good-bye to Rhonda Breitbach, Tiffany Burgie, Lindsey Dankevy, Kathryn Garbutt, Jennifer Honeyball, Lindsay O’Reilly, Jennifer Ridsdale, Julianne Stinson and Natalie Winterton. These staff members had replaced permanent staff who have been on leaves during the 2014-2015 school year. We wish all of these staff members all the best as they move on to new schools, new students and new adventures. Their contributions to our school have been significant and they will be missed next year.
The intermediate co-ed rugby team had a tremendous season this year. The players learned so much as a team over the course of the season and improved tremendously , making it all the way to the finals of the area rugby tournament. Mrs. Lashley and Mr. Evans are very proud of the players and their accomplishments!

Welcome September 2015!
Summer is here and we hope that everyone has a safe and exciting holiday! The first day of school will be here before you know it and we want to make sure that the transition into your child’s new classroom is smooth. On Sept 8th we are asking that all students in grades 1-8 be in the school yard by 8:45. There will be large numbered signs spread around the yard that correspond to your child’s grade (see diagram below). Each child is asked to find their grade number where a teacher will tell them what class they belong to. We ask that parents say goodbye to their child at the gates so that we reduce congestion on the yard. The procedure for the kindergarten students is different. Please bring your Senior Kindergarten child to the small fenced-in kindergarten yard at the front of the school on Tuesday, September 8th at 8:45 am. The Junior Kindergarten students will begin on Thursday, September 10th. Your child will be greeted by a parent volunteer and be given a colour coded name tag. The Kindergarten staff will be in the kindergarten yard to greet your child with a matching coloured balloon. We ask that you say goodbye to your child before they enter through the gate. The bell will ring to go inside at 8:55 am. At that time, the children will go into the school to begin their day at school. (Bring your cameras!)
We have sailed into summer on the waves of a hugely successful fundraiser! This year’s Sail Into Summer Festival Fundraiser
raised over $13,000. The proceeds from this fundraising initiative will go to support various initiatives to help our
students learn and grow including the purchase of new technology, classroom needs, and our Inspire Play initiative. We have achieved our fundraising goal of $40,000 to purchase and install the new playground equipment. Look for it this Fall when you return for a brand new school year. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our village! A huge THANK YOU to all those who gave so generously with their donations, both monetary and in kind, all the volunteers who gave their time and all those who came out to celebrate our students and their school. Thank you to all those who brought in baked goods for the Bake Sale. We all had to loosen our belts after those delectable treats. We want to extend a huge thank you to all the Volunteers who donated their time. Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless! We would also like to send out congratulations to the Teachers of Admiral as they pulled their way to victory against the Grade 8’s in the Tug-of-War.
We apologize if we have missed anyone. Please let us know if we have, and we will send an amendment, as we truly appreciate everyone’s support.
Lastly, Tricia and I would like to thank you for a great ride for the last 4 years in coordinating this awesome festival. But alas, all good things must come to an end. This is our last year of coordinating the festival. The torch is ready to pass on to someone else so that they can experience the great satisfaction in putting this festival on for the amazing students of Admiral.
Thank you again to everyone for helping us raise funds in support of Admiral Collingwood's students as they strive for excellence in Academics, Athletics, Arts and Attitude.
One for all, all for Admiral!

Water Safety Tips
Did you know 570 children drowned in Canada in the last 10 years? This equals the number of children in 10 full school buses (Parachute Canada, 2014). Some tips to keep children safe around water this summer:
Supervision is key - 90% of shallow water drowning among children occurred when an adult was absent.
Stay within sight and arms reach when a child is in or near water including: pools, bathtubs, lakes, rivers and streams.
Put down your electronic devices; listening isn’t enough to prevent drowning. Most drowning is silent and occurs in just a few seconds.
Swimming lessons allow children to gain confidence around water. Remember, lessons don’t provide kids with special protection; supervision is always needed.
Young children and weak swimmers should wear life jackets in or around the water. You and your child should always wear life jackets when riding in a boat.
Fence your pool; 7 out of 10 cases of child drowning can be prevented with four-sided pool fencing.
Be prepared: get trained in water skills, swimming skills, CPR and first aid.

First Rider Program prepares first time JK/SK/Primary bus riders
The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) offers a free First Rider Program for first-time school bus riders, which includes a ride on a real school bus. This safety program is provided by the SCSTC, in partnership with our school bus operators, to educate students and their families of the rules and responsibilities on and around the school bus. Sessions will take place in August across Simcoe County. Parents/guardians and their children attending any school in Simcoe County may attend any of the sessions. For more information and First Rider session dates, see the SCSTC website at: http://main.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca/safety.
