The existing water system, which serves the population of 450,000, consists of approx. 1,200 km of transmission and distribution pipelines, 750 km of consum-er connections, 66 reservoirs (volume 101,400 m³), 40 pump stations (total power approx. 7.85 MW), 36 wells (ca-pacity 2.4 m³/s), 8 water intakes (capacity 350 l/s), and 5 water treatment plants (capacity 500 l/s). The following activities have been carried out: (i) calculation of the water balance in line with the IWA methodology (bottom-up approach) for 57 District Metering Areas – DMAs (including assessment of existing DMAs, Zero Pressure Tests, control measurements to verify accuracy of the existing flow and consumer water meters, additional flow and pres-sure measurements, minimum night flow measurements, etc.), followed by the development of the NRW reduction strategy, (ii) leak detection surveys, (iii) development of a hydraulic model (including calibration of the model), (iv) assessment of the energy efficiency for each pump set (based on extensive data collection and electrical and hydraulic field measurements), followed by identification of energy saving opportunities and assessment of finan-cial savings, (v) assessment of the existing SCADA system and identification of measures to improve the system, and (vi) development of a Long-Term Investment Program and a 3-year Priority Investment Plan which is based on a cost-benefit analysis of the proposed NRW reduction, energy efficiency and other measures. All input data and project outputs and results were put on GIS format (ArcGIS).

Additionally, the reconstruction of the sludge evacuation line at the existing plant and installation of two slurry pumps was pro-posed. It was proposed that the present wet transport of sludge to landfill is replaced by the new technological scheme which includes dewatering of sludge by centrifuge decanter followed by transport to landfill as dry cake by the existing belt conveyor for ash and slag transport. Other interventions included solutions to reduce the effluent

Visoko, B&H HEIS Project Manager Investigation of applicability of anaerobic treatment of solid waste and sludge from the Prevent Leather Visoko factory. The objective of the project was to assess the applicability of anaerobic method for the treatment of organic solid waste from the leather processing plant and waste sludge from the plant’s WWTP. Date Location Company Position Description outfalls). A central wastewater treatment plant (capacity 450,000 PE for horizon year) was designed based on a conventional extended aeration system (inlet PS, screens, aerated grit chamber, primary sedimentation tanks, aera-tion basins, final sedimentation tanks, disinfection) and an anaerobic sludge digestion process (gravity thickening, anaerobic digestion, secondary thickening, filter press dewatering). The estimated construction cost is 63.2 mil. €.

02/1996 – 05/1996

Goražde, B&H HEIS Design Engineer Development of a detailed design of a 100 l/s water system for the urgent water supply of the city of Goražde. The services comprised the design of two dug wells (1,200 mm diameter, 5.0 m depth) located in the River Drina allu-vium nearby the Zupčići settlement, PEHD pipelines (DN 250 mm, L=180 m), a pump station (100 l/s) with the retention basin (2x30 m³) and a steel pipeline (DN 250 mm) delivering water directly to the existing transportation main. The total investment cost is 568,000 €.

09/1995 – 03/1996

Visoko, B&H HEIS Design Engineer Development of a conceptual design for a drainage system for the Visoko Airport Project. A collection and disposal system was designed for the drainage of surface and groundwaters from the Visoko Airport (runways, taxy ways, parking platform, green areas). The system consists of 21.3 km of concrete channels (gutters, stormwater intercep-tion channels, discharge channels), 33.9 km of concrete collectors (DN 100-1,100 mm), 21.2 km of drainage pipes (DN 100 mm) and auxiliary structures (storm drains, manholes, intake & outflow structures, etc.). The estimated construction cost is 12.8 mil. €.

02/1995 – 04/1995

Visoko, B&H HEIS Design Engineer Development of a preliminary design of an interim water supply system for the Visoko Airport Construction Pro-ject.

07/1993 – 03/1994

Sarajevo, B&H HEIS Design Engineer Development of preliminary and detailed designs of “Miljacka” and “Mošćanica” water treatment plants (respective capacities 450 and 300 m³/h). The project entitled “Urgent Water Supply of the City of Sarajevo from Miljacka and Mošćanica Water Sources” was financed by the USAID.

11/1991 – 02/1992

Sprečko polje – Tuzla, B&H

HEIS Project Engineer Consulting services in a pilot plant study aimed at determining optimum pretreatment of groundwaters in the “Sprečko polje” WTP for the Tuzla Regional Water Supply System. During six years of operation, the existing water treatment plant (12 multimedia pressure filters) did not perform according to design parameters (design flow 180 l/s) and the treated water did not meet the national drinking water standards (Fe, Mn, NH4). A reduced scale pilot plant (36 l/min) was built (aeration, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, oxidation, filtration) and erected on site with the objective to carry out detailed investigations of the treatment efficiency of various unit processes. Based on extensive tests and results, a number of recommendations were provided with regard to design parameters for new pretreatment units and rehabilitation measures at the existing pressure filters that will bring the perfor-mance of the existing plant in line with the drinking water standards.

07/1991 – 12/1991

B&H HEIS Project Engineer Preparation of guidance documents for more than 40 water utilities in B&H on the water quality control procedures and standards in line with applicable national legislation.
