Newsletter – Term 1 Week 7 Roll: 23 students Wednesday 18th March 2020
Kia ora koutou, We have had a busy couple of weeks. Thank you to all whanau and community who supported our students at Glen Massey swimming and Ruawaro Combined School junior games. The students have had a great time and we are sharing photos from these events in this newsletter. We really appreciate the help from whanau with transport and support on the day.
At school we have been busy with a variety of learning activities and will continue to share our students work in the newsletters left this term. The senior class have been learning how to use technology to produce content and particularly enjoy making and sharing Kahoot quizzes.
Our students have been talking a lot about Covid 19 at school. We explained that we continue our routine at school. We have highlighted preventative measures that adults are taking and how our learners need to practice good hygiene as well. We are explicitly teaching and reminding students about handwashing and good hygiene habits. A number of students have had a few illnesses lately including strep throat so it is a good time to do this. Waikaretu school is using the following advice from the Ministry of Health.
If you are passing the school, we would really appreciate if you could collect recycling please.
Cardboards, plastics and tins will be clean and ready to go. Thanks!

The Coming Storm
Two young primary aged girls were walking on the side of the road for an afternoon walk. The sun was shining brightly. There was not a cloud in sight. All of a sudden dark clouds had started to gather around the tops of the ranges. As the clouds grew darkness fell. The girls turned their heads slightly to see the ranges. At that very moment in time darkness fell everywhere. They turned around to look at each other and it started to pour down. It was like there was a jug pouring water full speed on top of them. As they turned around they stopped to think. Then they started to walkled then sprint, and then they started to run toward the light but it was too late. They saw a weird patch of light. It wasn't getting dark suddenly it was light the storm had passed. They started walking home soaking wet and so cold. One was so cold she had to home and warm up straight away. By Felicity
