Kathy Hoeltzel gave a wonderful and thorough
report in September on The Oregon Trail: A
New American Journey by Rinker Buck. He and
his brother Nicholas undertook the 2,000 mile
journey covering six states in a covered wagon
(which they had built) drawn by a team of three
mules. He said that the trip required a certain
bit of naïveté and learning to live with
uncertainty. We also celebrated Eleanor
Randles’s 98th birthday with a cake made by
Carol Whalen.
