AAUW’s analysis of recently released U.S. Census Bureau data from 2017 shows that the gender pay gap remains stagnant — women still make just 80 cents on the dollar compared to men. Kathy Hoeltzel gave a wonderful and thorough

report in September on The Oregon Trail: A

New American Journey by Rinker Buck. He and

his brother Nicholas undertook the 2,000 mile

journey covering six states in a covered wagon

(which they had built) drawn by a team of three

mules. He said that the trip required a certain

bit of naïveté and learning to live with

uncertainty. We also celebrated Eleanor

Randles’s 98th birthday with a cake made by

Carol Whalen.
