A Grand Bald Eagle Along the Canisteo RiverPictures & Articles Submitted by Janie Ferguson

I opened our back door this morning, to let some cool air in the house, as it’s going to be another hot day, and spotted a fawn out in our back fi eld through the leaves of the willow tree. When I went to get my camera, and came back he was gone. I made my way to the back fi eld, and looked to my right at the Canisteo River, and there was this grand bald eagle! I was thrilled to be able to capture him, as he was perched up high on a tree branch. They are much harder to see in the summer with all of the leaves on, so this one was a special treat!

Northrup Hill School House Annual Picnic This year’s annual Northrup Hill School House picnic, in Rathbone, was much different due to Covid-19. As you can see, social distancing was in place, and wearing of masks, too, other than when eating. We didn’t open this event to the public this year either, and we ordered prepared food to serve, as well. Martin van der Grinten of the Chemung Valley Audubon Society was our guest speaker. He spoke of the trails to the left of the school house that were also donated by Elizabeth Gaynor & Margaret Evans, too. He made it a point to let people know that the trails are open to the public. They go down to the beaver dam approximately 3/4 of a mile down the trail. Come on out, and enjoy the view, the bench, the trails & the pond, too. A plaque was given to the Knopf family today also. It read “Special Recognition”, presented in memory of, Dan Knopf, who dedicated hours of labor in the renovation of The Northrup Hill One Room School House. Elizabeth Gaynor, Margaret Evans, & MHS.” We were glad that the rain held off until after we had all gone home. Thank you to all of you that came out, and those of you that helped put on this event.

The Importance of PrayerSubmitted by Sharon Calkins

(7/24/20) When someone asks for prayer, do you pray right away or wait until you have the time? I know we all get busy, but there is nothing more powerful or needed than prayer. Jesus is never too busy to listen to your prayers. At the time you ask for prayer, He listens. Also, don’t be afraid to pray for yourself. Jesus prayed to His Father, not my will, but Thine. We need to get on our knees and pray for each other, our nation and our military. He never thinks your prayers aren’t as important as anyone else’s. We are equal in His eyes, no matter our age, status or color.

The Journey It was June 2015 when a mother walked into the Addison Fire Hall to attend a support group meeting now called the Addiction Awareness of Steuben County. She didn’t know at that time that this meeting would be a huge contributor to changing her life. Life does change. It’s a fact. Sometimes we don’t always see the changes because we are so focused and wrapped up in our everyday lives and paying attention to the things that we “think” might be important but only to fi nd, over time, that some things just aren’t as important as others. The reason this mother attended her fi rst support group meeting was because, at the time, her then, 23 year old daughter was in her second stint in rehab. This stint was for 28 days. And almost a year prior was the fi rst rehab experience at New Dawn in Elmira, NY. This fi rst rehab was for 12 days – three months later? Relapse! The stories shared in this article are based on personal experiences. Experiences of a grandmother, a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a cousin, a friend, and a mother of a person in recovery. Recovery can happen, there is hope, and you are not alone. The biggest lesson learned by this mother after leaving her fi rst support group meeting fi ve years ago was: “We’re not alone and we’re not the only ones.” The Addiction Awareness of Steuben County support group is a 501c3 Non-Profi t group. They meet every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Addison Fire Hall located at 1 Tuscarora Street, Addison, NY. This group is open to anyone who wants to attend. The attendees are people struggling with addiction, people who are in recovery, and supporters of people with addiction and who are in recovery. This mother is the author of this article as she shares her personal experiences with addiction and recovery. This mother is me -- Teresa Haight has been writing for the past 3 years with the intent to write and publish books. Her current project is a memoir about her journey as a mother and her experiences with addiction and recovery. Recovery can mean so many things – we are probably all in recovery from something. What are you in recovery from?

Alfred Station Seventh-Day Baptist Church “Baptist With A Difference” Did you know heard that your friends and neighbors at the Alfred Station Seventh-day Baptist Church are now enjoying “Face to Face” Worship Experience? You are invited to Worship this Sabbath (Sat.) July 25. The doors of the church-meetinghouse open at 10:30 am. While sitting in the Sanctuary Worship through Contemporary Hymns of Praise, Classical Hymns, and at 1o:55 am Modern Choruses. At 11:00 am the Sabbath Worship Experience begins with the ringing of the Church meetinghouse Bell. When you come to ‘Face to Face” Worship Experience please wear a protective face mask, be ready to answer 3 questions about you and the virus, experience social distancing in the Sanctuary and be dismissed at the close of the Worship Experience row by row. This Sabbath we continue our examination of the Covenant Document, called the 10 Commandments. This Sabbath’s Sermon is “She said What?” a look at the 9TH Commandment. “You shall not bear false witness” concerns itself with formal witness as in a courtroom, the way a person lives life, and gossip. Of course, we will be attempting to ask, “How does this work in the way we live in the 21st Century. At 10:55 am we welcome the “Cloud Congregation” through live participatory Streaming at” Streaming.org- www.alfredstationsdb.org; Alfred Station Seventh-day Baptist Church Facebook Page; Alfred Station Seventh-day Baptist Church You-Tube Chanel If you would like to join us for this Sabbath’s (Sat.) Our Nation Needs GodWritten by Audrey B. Stepanian

Our United States today needs unity. A judge on televisoin was discussing how we need to come together to save our nation. The leaders of China desire to bring us down. They want to become the World leader. They follow desires for power and money. It is not based on the needs and rights of the common people. Our country was established as a Christian nation - a democracy. Some of the representatives we have voted in to serve our people have wandered from those ideals. Your vote is important. Your values and how you vote are very important! Be in prayer about it. May God’s will be done. Save our nation II Chronicles 7:14- NIV Bible. If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways - then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Summertime Summertime means putting away the heavier clothing and looking forward to short sleeves and warmer weather. Some of the things that I enjoy about summer are the longer hours of daylight, washing my car in the backyard, cutting the grass, talking to neighbors and just being outside enjoying the pleasant weather. The summer months can be sweltering at times, but all and all, it usually is a pleasant time of the year. As one gets older, it seems that the summers get shorter. They say that time is relative, and the older we get, the faster time appears to go. Keep-ing this in mind, we should plan to enjoy all that the summer has to offer: go on some picnics; plan a few trips; go swimming; play some golf or tennis. The Bible tells us that everything that God has created is good; nothing is to be rejected, and everything is to be received with a prayer of thanks (1Timothy 4:4). We thank God for summer, and for all the seasons of the year, and we ask His blessing and peace on all of us.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always give thanks for everything to God the Father.Good News Bible Ephesians 5:20
