FEATURES OF POLAR REGION… These regions are covered with snow and it is

very cold for most part of the year. For six months the sun does not set at the

poles while for other six months the sun does not rise

In winters, the temperature can be as low as -37 degree celcius.

THEN HOW ANIMALS HAVE ADAPTED IN THIS REGION?Animals in these region have special

features /adaptation to survive the extreme condition.

let us study about them by considering the examples of polar bear .

SUMARRY OF ADAPTATION IN POLAR BEAR1. It has very strong sense of smell - it helps the bear to locate and catch its prey.2. It has long curved and sharp claws - these help it to walk on ice.3. It has white fur - it is not visible in snowy white background ,

which help them to save from predators.

Page 14: Adaptation of animals in polar region

4. It has two thick layers of fur - these keep it warm in cold weather 5. It has a layer of fat under its skin - the fat insulates its body from cold and keeps it

warm.

WHAT ARE THE ADAPTATION OF PENGUINS?

Page 16: Adaptation of animals in polar region

INTRODUTION Speedy little blurs flying throgh the water they are

penguins but penguins don’t fly they waddle and when babys are born the mother feeds them out of there mouth penguins are like torpedos in water

Penguins don’t fly but they do through water

PHYSICAL ADAPTATIONS Penguins have feathers that keep them warm

in cold water Their black and white feathers work like

camouflage in the water to predators… here’s how it works

When predators are looking from below or from above they use their feather’s to blend in with the water

But on land it’s hard for that to work

Page 18: Adaptation of animals in polar region

BEHAVIORAL ADAPTATIONS When a penguin get’s too hot it fluffs up it’s

feathers to cool off dad Penguins keep their egg’s warm by

sitting on them while the mother goes fishing Because their so cold penguins huddle

together to create heat and keep warm

HOW BIRDS SURVIVE IN COLD CONDITION? They migrate to warmer regions when

winters sets in. they come back after the winter is over
