Introduction This year, second edition of The Indian Cotton Conference (ICC 2014), was hosted by Northern India Cotton Association Ltd (NICAL), at The Leela Ambience, Gurgaon NCR, India on November 15, 2014. ICC 2014 is the second international conference and Exhibition; following the trend set last year with hosting of ICC 2013. This report’s main objective is to provide detailed information, useful to the Organising Committee, and NICAL for future editions of Indian Cotton Conferences.

Co host In order to widen the outreach of The Indian Cotton Conference, it was decided to partner in with like-minded associations from the cotton value chain for organising ICC 2014. With this viewpoint, the Northern India Textile Mill Association (NITMA) was approached. Northern India Textile Mills' Association (NITMA) was established in the year 1958 under Societies Act XX1 of 1860. It is a non-profit making organization solely engaged to support and to promote the interest of Indian Textile Industry. The association has 75 textile mills as direct members and more than 30 are affiliate members. Some of the association members are Asia's largest textile conglomerates; and the association represents 20% of India’s textile production capacity. The association endeavors to promote interface amongst textile entrepreneurs of various countries across the globe. NITMA agreed to be the co-hosts of the ICC 2014.

Committees After the Board of Directors of NICAL approved the resolution for hosting The Indian Cotton Conference 2014, the President of NICAL along with key Board members were entrusted the task of selecting and leading the team for successful hosting of the conference.

About ICC 2014

ICC 2014 was held with an endeavour to create a global platform for all participants, where discourse and interactions could happen in an intensive yet candid atmosphere. The aim was to come up with solutions, scenarios and framework which would benefit everyone associated with cotton-yarn value chain. ICC 2014 laid special focus on emerging opportunities in sectors such as textile machinery, yarn and fabric. With new government in India, the program also encompassed policy steps taken to promote cotton-textile industry.

Conference theme -Adapt, Change and Innovate Since the recent past year, the global cotton industry has been witnessing unpredictable trends due to huge price swings, volatile international currency markets, changing supply-demand scenario, ongoing technological innovations, government policy setbacks and trade directives. This has resulted in relationship dynamics between each section of the cotton-textile value chain reaching a critical level than ever before. After due deliberation on these trade dynamics and relationship scenario, it was unanimously decided to choose "Adapt, Change and Innovate" as the conference theme for ICC 2014. All stakeholders of ICC 2014 were of the opinion that it was high time for our industry to thoroughly deliberate and deduce how these relationships could be bettered so that all stakeholders are well prepared and skilled to embrace oncoming challenges. Indian Cotton Conference 2014 is a step in finding the right direction towards building strategic roadmap and nurture partnerships on a global level.

Special Focus -Supply demand scenario- yield quandary

Explore emerging opportunities in textile machinery for better yarn and fabric, discussions on Government policies for the growth of Cotton and Textile Industry were the key focus areas of ICC 2014. To achieve this huge task, it was decided that luminaries from global cotton supply chain should be invited with a mission to share their experiences and knowledge on all aspects of the industry. As a result, ICC 2014 provided a dynamic boost to the knowledge pool of cotton trade and economy.

Keynote Speakers

Mr. Anthony Tancredi is the Chief Executive Officer of Allenberg Cotton Co and the Global Head of the Louis Dreyfus Cotton Platform. Graduating with honors from Carleton College, he began his cotton career when he joined Allenberg in August of 1985. Spending many years as the head global physical cotton trader, he was responsible for expanding the company into various key international markets and still oversees the implementation of strategic global trading game plans. Tancredi is a member of Louis Dreyfus Commodities Executive Group and is on various boards, committees and charities inside and outside of the cotton industry.

Mr. Prem Malik is the Chairman, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry. He is currently running a Management Consultancy in Textiles and also engaged in textile exports and has a work experience of over 48 years at the Top Management level with companies like M/s. Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and M/s. Mafatlal Industries Ltd. He is on the main board of several major textile companies and is associated with various textile organizations. He is currently, the Chairman of Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA), Mumbai. Shri Prem Malik is also a Past Chairman of Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (Texprocil) and a Past Vice Chairman of SRTEPC.

Speakers at ICC 2014 Mr. Aamir Akhtar is a Masters in Business Administration with a work experience of 26 years that spans across sectors like Oil Industry, FMCG and Textiles and Apparels A Sales and Marketing professional, he started his career with the Oil Industry. He worked for 4 years in Indian Oil Corporation - India's largest Public Sector Oil Company. He then switched to FMCG sector working for Geep Industries (subsequently taken over by P&G). Since last 18 years he has been working in the Textile Industry. His current and previous assignments were with two of the most respectable and large-sized textile companies of Asia - Arvind Limited and Reliance Industries.

Mr. Abhishek Goenka is the Founder and CEO of India Forex Advisors Pvt. Ltd. He holds an MBA in finance, a CFA & has undertaken various Certified Executive Programmes from Harvard University. He is renowned for his accurate targets on various currencies especially rupee. His highly revered thoughts, recommendations and views on the Forex market are covered by major Domestic & International Publications, Newswires and Websites. He is also frequently interviewed by various news channels on his views on related topics. Mr. Anand A. Popat is Chairman & Managing Director of Jalaram Cotton & Proteins Limited, Jasdan, Gujarat and Secretary, Saurashtra Ginners Association, Rajkot, Gujarat. He has a Business Experience of 29 years. In the year 1968 has started Cotton Ginning business with formation of a partnership firm "Jalaram Ginning Factory". In 1994 has extended the cotton business and started D R Ginning Factory at Jasdan. In 1996 he entered in Cotton Pressing segment. In 2002 he took over a Cotton Ginning & Pressing Factory "Shreenathji Cotton Industries" and increased processing capacity. In the year 2006 he established most modern Ginning Pressing Factory with Ultra-Modern Edible Oil Refinery with name "Jalaram Cotton & Proteins Limited" (JCPL).

Mr. Arun Sekhsaria is the Managing Director of DD Cotton Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai Group since 1989. Under his leadership, the company's international trade grew significantly and also forayed in the area of cotton related logistics and finance. His innovative approach to the business has reflected in the company's policy to steadily partake in more and more value-added services within the cotton chain. He is an eminent voice within the cotton industry in India. He is also Director with Cotton Association of India, Committee Member FIEO, Chairperson Cotton Advisory Board, MCX Member, Cotton Advisory Board, Govt. of India.

Mr. Ashish Bagrodia is the Managing Director, Winsome Textile Industries Limited (WTIL) since 2008 with a vision to make the company as one of the leading Textile Companies in the world. He is a qualified Mechanical Engineer from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. WTIL has a top line of around Rs. 500 Crores and having interest in spinning, Yarn dyeing, Knitted fabrics and processing. WTIL is also one of the largest players in the 100% Cotton Melange and Cotton Dyed yarn business in India.

Mr. Brijendra Kumar Mishra is currently the Chairman cum Managing Director, Cotton Corporation of India, a position that he has been occupying since 2011. Mr. Mishra, did his MBA with specialization in Human Resource & Marketing and is a Chartered Accountant by profession. During his tenure with CCI, he has been directly involved in all major policy decisions and also day to day operations of the organization and has a first-hand experience in marketing of cotton in domestic as well as international market. Besides this, he also has first-hand field experience in respect of cotton. He has presented number of papers on cotton in various seminars and conferences in countries like China, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, etc.

Mr. G. Chandrashekhar is the Associate Editor of "The Hindu Business Line" and is a specialist in agriculture, agribusiness, commodity markets and also international trade and developmental issues. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences on a range of topics including Indian macro-economy, food and nutrition security, globalisation, WTO, role of technology, infrastructure, climate change etc. As an analyst, Mr. Chandrashekhar systematically tracks, analyses, interprets and comments on economic developments in general and commodities sector in particular, covering agriculture, metals and energy. He closely follows the agricultural biotechnology sector.

Mr. Deepak Mehta is Vice President, (PKMT), MCX, Mumbai. Armed with a graduation degree in mechanical engineering and a post graduation (MBA) in Marketing, Mr. Deepak Mehta has been associated with Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) since 2005 and is currently heading the energy & agriculture division. With over fifteen years of experience, he manages relationships with more than 100 large members/broking houses pan India in financial sector. Prior to joining MCX, he was associated with a leading city gas distribution company, Mahanagar Gas Limited, Mumbai (a joint venture of GAIL & British Gas) for over six years.

Mr. Patel Dilipbhai Prahladbhai is the Managing Partner, M/s. Raja Industries, Kadi Mr. Patel joined the cotton trade as Managing Partner of Raja Industries n 1992. With an experience of more than two decades, he is currently the Chairman cum Managing Director of D. Raja Cotton Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Patel is also the President of All Gujarat Cotton Ginners Association, Chairman of Shree Kadi Nagrik Sahkari Bank Ltd and Bhagyoday General Hospital as well as Vice President of Adarsh Vidya Sankul.

Mr. I J Dhuria is Director (Materials), Vardhaman Group, India. Associated with Vardhman Group for more than 25 years, Mr Dhuria is currently responsible for sourcing of all the Textile Raw Materials. A Master of Business Management & Bachelor of Science (Hons.) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab), Mr Dhuria has a work experience of over 36 years in the procurement of Textile Raw Materials. He has actively participated in many international Forums like International Cotton Association, Australia Cotton Association and China Cotton Association conferences. He is Member of Global "Cotton Consumers Committee" of the International Cotton Association, NCDEX Cotton Executive Council, Cotton Product Committee -MCX and Advisory Board of Control Union Certifications, India.

Mr. John Pestell is the Managing Director of Dhanya Agroindustrial Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ECOM Agroindustrial Corporation Limited - Switzerland. After graduating from the University of West London in the UK in 1992, he began his cotton career with Meredith Jones & Company Limited, Liverpool, England before joining ECOM Switzerland in 1999. He is one of the most senior cotton traders within the ECOM Group and has been instrumental in expanding the company's global cotton trading activities. After spending 5 years as head of the company cotton trading desks in Switzerland and Singapore, he moved to Mumbai in January 2007 and is the founder of ECOM's local Indian cotton operations.

Mr. Lu Guozhu, also known as Peter Lu, is the Vice General Manager of International Business Department for China National Cotton Exchange (CNCE) since 2010. Peter has more than fifteen years experience of directly cotton trading business both domestic and abroad. He started his career from China textile resources crop (CTRC) since 1994. In 2003 he moved into Beijing Sinotex Co Ltd which is a subsidiary of CTRC as General Manager.

Mr. P. Kasiviswanathan is Head of Indian Operations Picanol India Private Limited. He acquired a Bachelors Degree in Textile technology from ANNA University, Chennai 1983-87 followed by M.B.A in Marketing management from REC Thiruchy (TN) year 1987-89. With an experience of 26 years' in the Indian Textile industry, he is deeply involved in the sales and service of spinning, weaving and processing machinery. Well travelled overseas, he currently focuses on sales of Picanol weaving machines, sales of original Picanol spare parts and accessories, the repair station in New Delhi for the repair of electronic circuit boards of Picanol looms and complete servicing of Picanol. In recent years, Picanol India has seen a steady growth in its market share, which has led to it becoming the leading provider of weaving machines in the national market.

Dr. M. K. Sharma is currently the President of the Bajaj Steel Industries Limited. Armed with a Law degree and Masters in Commerce, he has over 36 years of managerial experience at various organisations like Bajaj Global Ltd, Nagpur, Pepega Ltd, Mumbai, Quality Castings Ltd, U.A.E, Nagpur Infotech Ltd. Nagpur. He has also been a member of Regional Advisory Committee (Organized Sector), Central Excise, Collectorate Nagpur, Public Grievance Redressal Committee, Central Excise, Collectorate Nagpur, Small Scale Industry Committee (Vidarbha Region), FICCI, New Delhi, Executive Committee, Vidarbha Industries Association, Nagpur. He has also been a visiting Faculty to prestigious Institutes -IMT, IIM, WRICA, Raisoni, Ambedkar College, Ramdeobaba Engineering College, Bhavans, CIRCOT etc.

Dr. Mian Singh Kairon is currently Consultant, Bajaj Steel Industries Ltd. Nagpur. During his professional career of more than 46 years, he served as Director CICR Nagpur, Advisor to Govt. of Myanmar for developing agriculture lands for cultivation of Rice and Cotton. He specialises in development and commercialisation of many varieties and hybrids in India, Integrated pest management crop modelling and crop estimates, ginning of cotton, post-harvest technology, and development activities and planning for popularising cotton cultivation. He is a well travelled researcher and teacher. Mr. Nasir Naeem is Chairman, Naeem Brothers Limited, Hong Kong After graduating in 1987, Mr. Nasir Naeem joined family owned cotton ginning and pressing factory. In 1992 founded Naeem Brothers Ltd. In 2003 founded jeans manufacturing unit Naeem Textile Mills Limited. Naeem Brothers Ltd is an MNC working as traders/agents. Established in 1992, the company has its offices in Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Pakistan, Canada and Spain. The company deals with Indian, Pakistani, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Thailand origin yarns, fabrics, home textiles and garments. Serving as a vital link between manufacturers and buyers, the company traded in yarn worth US$ 256 million during the year 2013. Mr. P. K. Singhal is currently the Joint Managing Director at MD, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX), Mumbai. An MBA with over 39 years of diverse corporate experience in banking/financial services, institutions, securities and commodities market space, he has held positions such as Division Chief (Secondary Market) with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Executive Director & CEO of Delhi Stock Exchange and Director with Forward Markets Commission (FMC). He has also served as a member on important committees of SEBI such as Risk Management, Corporate Governance and Participation by Securities Brokers in Commodity Futures Market.

Mr. P. K. Singhal is currently Head - Marketing India, Rieter India Private Limited, Pune, an organisation which he joined in 2012. Mr. Dangra is a textile graduate with PG Diploma and Masters' Degree in Marketing. He has 15 years experience in sales, marketing, production and business development for textile and other industrial sectors. He is proficient in speaking more than five Indian dialects.

Mr. Rajeev Baruah is currently India Country head, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). He has more than 20 years experience in working with directly with cotton farmers, ginning and spinning. Over the years he has developed an in-depth understanding of the challenges of cotton production, ginning and the various issues of cotton quality that Indian Mills are facing today. BCI is a global multi stake holder initiative which brings together producers, ginners, traders, spinners, mills, cut & sew, manufacturers, retailers, brands and civil society organizations in a unique global community committed to developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity. In India BCI is working with 285,000 Farmers across the cotton growing states. Rajeev has been one of the pioneers of the Organic Cotton in India and was

associated to the bioRe or Maikaal project which started organic cotton way back in 1992. Mr. Rajesh Mandawewala is currently Managing Director, Welspun India Limited, Mumbai. Mr. Samir Shah is currently Managing Director & CEO of NCDEX, the leading agri commodity exchange in India Earlier, Mr. Shah was the Chief Business Officer of the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX). At DGCX he led the growth of the exchange to make it one of the fastest growing exchanges in the world, winning several awards, amongst them were Contract of the Year and the Best Commodity Exchange in 2012. Shah has two decades of experience in building institutions and market infrastructure. Prior to joining DGCX, he was the CEO of Mumbai-based Universal Commodities Exchange (UCX).

Mr. Sanchit Rajpal is currently the Joint Managing Director of Manjeet Cotton Pvt. Ltd. Aurangabad, a position he has been entrusted since 2011. His major responsibilities at the organisation are overseeing the exports, marketing, MIS development, Business Automation Systems. He is an FMB graduate from SP Jain Institute of Management & Research. He joined management of the organisation in 2007 and started his training in Operations & Seed Cotton Purchases.

Mr. Sanjay K Jain is the Managing Director of T T Ltd. He is a Gold Medallist MBA from IIM, Ahmadabad and also a Rank holder Cost Accountant and Company Secretary. He was awarded the Udyog Ratan Award in 2010. He is currently the Vice Chairman of NITRA and Vice President of NITMA, FOHMA and WBHA. He is also a committee member of TEXPROCIL, CITI, SIMA, FICCI (Textiles Group). He is also part of the core group making the first hosiery park of India under the SITP Project of Government. He is also involved in social projects like Trustee of T T Charitable Trust and is also an active member of the Lions International. He is co-convenor of Udaan a social education initiative and involved in IIM, Ahmadabad Mentor Edge program.

Mr. Sumesh Parasrampuria is the Chief Business Officer - Business Development at Star Agri Warehousing and Collateral Management. He is a dynamic and result oriented leader with 16+ years of experience across Consulting, Financial Services, Consumer, Regulatory and Manufacturing sectors. Sumesh has completed Master of Business Administration (MBA), Finance from Welingkar Institute of Management and graduation in Commerce, Economics from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. Prior to joining us he was associated with Multi Commodity Exchange of India as the Chief Business Officer &Director- Business Development and Products.

Mr. T. Kannan is the Chairman & Managing Director Of Thiagarajar Mills (P) Limited, Madurai (India). Mr. Kanan Is Also The Chairman Vtm Limited. Besides These, Mr. Kanan Has Also The Director Of Several Companies Including Tvs Motor Company Limited, Sundaram Brake Linings And Sundaram Textiles Limited Etc. Mr. Kannan Is Connected With A Number Of Organizations Related To Industry, Education And Charity And Banking. Mr. Kanan has Also Been the Past Chairman of Textiles Committee, Mumbai, Past Chairman of Confederation Of Indian Industry, Southern Region, Chennai.

Mr. Tim Bourgois is currently the Global Head-Cotton (Cash Trading), Louis Dreyfus Commodities Suisse S.A. Geneva, Switzerland. Tim Bourgois joined LD in 1999 in Antwerp, Belgium. After spending 2 years at Louis Dreyfus Textiles he moved to the cotton platform in 2000 joining the West African operations. Early 2006 he was promoted to assistant trading manager and named trading manager in 2007 of the Geneva cotton office, Switzerland. In 2013 he took global responsibilities and was promoted to global cash trading manager of the cotton platform, responsible for worldwide cash positions.

Mr. Ujwal R. Lahoti is the Executive Chairman of the well awarded Lahoti Overseas Limited, a leading export house of Cotton, Synthetic yarns and grey fabrics, woven and knitted products. The company is also listed with BSE and has many certificates to its credit like ISO, GOTS, OEKOTEX, BCI etc. Mr. Ujwal Lahoti has experience of marketing in exports over 30 years. He has been elected as Deputy Chairman of TEXPROCIL, (The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council) sponsored by Government of India.

Mr. Unupom Kausik is currently the Business Head - Cotton for OLAM Agro India Limited ( A fully owned subsidiary of OLAM International Limited, Singapore). He has more than 20 years of experience in industries such as Cotton Textile, Global cotton trading, Commodity exchanges and derivative brokerage industry. Mr. Kausik has headed cotton sourcing for The ArvindLimited . He had worked in a leadership position with NCDEX as Chief Business Officer. He is an alumnus of Cotton School conducted by American Cotton Shippers Association.

Mr. Vinod Ahuja is currently the Chairman, VRA Cotton Mills Pvt.Ltd. New Delhi. He is a Gold Medallist Mechanical Engineer from Punjab University. Joined the family business and presently heading " Ahuja Group " with multifarious activities from large scale Mechanised farming, Services Industries relating to various Commodities from Farmer end to Consumer end and having Agro based Industries alongwith Exports of Cotton. Also engaged with latest generation of Ginning & Pressing Industry. Member of Executive Committee of NITMA and served as Chairman - Raw Material Committee for three terms.

Mr. Yogesh Garg Senior Manager, Voltas Limited, New Delhi Diploma holder in Textile Technology from Shri Vaishnav Institute Indore. Having over 25 years of Experience, handled various positions in Textile manufacturing and Textile Machinery marketing companies, Current portfolio is Weaving Machinery, Processing and Finishing Machinery and Non Woven and Technical Textile Machinery.

ICC 2014 was successfully hosted at Gurgaon, India with more than 600 participants from 5 countries. The inaugural ceremony was held on 15th November 2014 at 1000 hrs at the Pearl Ballroom of The Leela Ambience, Gurgaon NCR a prominent landmark in the NCR. Being the second edition, there was overwhelming response from NICAL members and the cotton fraternity. The Opening Ceremony session was attended by more than 600 participants, exhibitors and media personnel.

The proceedings started with the EmmCee welcoming distinguished guests and all delegates. The Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sh Santosh Gangawar, Minister of Textiles (independent charge), GOI. Other dignitaries on the dais included Guest of Honour Shri Parvesh Sahibsingh Verma, Member of Parliament, Sh. SK Panda, Secretary (Textiles), Mr. Prem Malik, Chairman, CITI, Mr. Sharad Jaipuria, President NITMA, Mr. Anthony Tancredi, CEO Allenberg Cotton Ltd UK, Mr. PK Singh, Mr. Naisadh Parikh, Mr. Dillip Patel, Mr. Mahesh Sharda, Past President NICAL, and Mr. Rakesh Rathi, President NICAL.

After the dignitaries were seated, floral bouquets were presented to them by distinguished Directors of NICAL.
