Diary Dates A Note from Principal - Adam Wilson Making the hard call Warning: Story about the Wilson familyMy eldest daughter asked me if she could download Tik Tok on her iPad. We monitor all downloads and any new app needs to be approved by an adult. So given her interest in this app, I decided to do some research and I downloaded it myself. Without instantly sounding like my parents—I could not believe some of the things that young people were doing. Yes, I found it entertaining, but aſter further research I was not surprised when the recommendaons were that the app was for ages 13+. So it was at that moment when I needed to make the call to my daughter and let her know that she was not allowed to have this app. Every family is different and I respect others decision to allow their children access, but for my daughter it was a decision that I felt was needed for my child. As you can imagine my decision was not taken too well and it took several opportunies to have my daughter re-likeme. Somemes as parents we will need to make decisions that our children do not understand. These moments are hard and although it is not pleasant when our children dont like us, in the end it is these decisions that can protect, nurture and educate our children unl they are old enough to make a beer informed choice on their own. There is a fine line between being your childs friend and making the call to be the responsible adult. Uniform Feedback Thank you to those who responded either in wring or via the link on our Facebook page. Governing Council have met and discussed the feedback and have decided to have 2 types of jumpers. The first will be the same material as the current jumpers. The second will be a more expensive jacket that will have material that is more durable. The two designs will be very similar. As for feedback on the design, Governing Council will connue to look at the samples provided by the company. Feedback has been to reduce the amount of yellow on the design due to it fading and looking dirty. We look forward to bringing you the final design in the coming weeks. Miss Martin’s Yr 3/4 students have been redesigning animal enclosures. They are at the end of the design phase and are now working on building their designs. Stay tuned for the final products in our next Newsletter.

Making the hard call

Warning: Story about the Wilson family…

My eldest daughter asked me if she could download Tik Tok on her iPad. We monitor all downloads and any new app needs to be approved by an adult. So given her interest in this app, I decided to do some research and I downloaded it myself. Without instantly sounding like my parents—I could not believe some of the things that young people were doing. Yes, I found it entertaining, but after further research I was not surprised when the recommendations were that the app was for ages 13+. So it was at that moment when I needed to make the call to my daughter and let her know that she was not allowed to have this app. Every family is different and I respect others decision to allow their children access, but for my daughter it was a decision that I felt was needed for my child.

As you can imagine my decision was not taken too well and it took several opportunities to have my daughter ‘re-like’ me. Sometimes as parents we will need to make decisions that our children do not understand. These moments are hard and although it is not pleasant when our children don’t like us, in the end it is these decisions that can protect, nurture and educate our children until they are old enough to make a better informed choice on their own. There is a fine line between being your child’s friend and making the call to be the responsible adult. Uniform Feedback Thank you to those who responded either in writing or via the link on our Facebook page. Governing Council have met and discussed the feedback and have decided to have 2 types of jumpers. The first will be the same material as the current jumpers. The second will be a more expensive jacket that will have material that is more durable. The two designs will be very similar.

As for feedback on the design, Governing Council will continue to look at the samples provided by the company. Feedback has been to reduce the amount of yellow on the design due to it fading and looking dirty. We look forward to bringing you the final design in the coming weeks.

Footy Colours Day—To celebrate the 2020 season having a Round 2, coinciding with a ‘celebration day’ that the year 6/7’s are doing Wednesday of Week 7. Students across the whole school can choose to wear footy colours on that day.

Ellie Packard

You may have noticed lots of orange bunting and workmen on school grounds. They have been installing a new drainage system so that our school does not flood when it rains. This is only the beginning of the work that will take shape this year. Our new building is set to begin by the next holidays causing some disruption to classes. We look forward to the end product though.

Denise is looking for items to prepare gifts for the Father’s Day Stall in September. If you are able to save and pass on the following items to the front office it would be greatly appreciated.

Baby food jars Large metal or plastic lids - not pull ring lids (e.g: milo, peanut paste, beetroot, tuna).

Small jars with lids Scrap wood pieces (square or circular)

Old nuts and bolts Screws

Wire Old photo frames

If you have a sewing machine/over locker and are willing to help re-sew the seams on bean bags can you please contact the school. We have 28 bean bags for our corn hole games that need to have their seams reinforced to hopefully prevent them from splitting.

Overdue Books

The Library has a number of overdue books at the moment. It would be great if families could have a good look at home and return any SNPS books. Students with overdue books are not able to borrow until the books are returned. If you have received information about an overdue book for your child and are unable to locate it, please contact Amanda in the Library by phone or email [email protected]
