The hospital’s design is inspired by the curves of the region’s many winding valleys and usually drystream beds called wadi. These wadis typically meander through the mountain areas of the region, feeding rainwater into dryer wadis below.
The new military hospital will serve as the military’s premier hospital, providing centers of excellence in cardiology, trauma, and burn care. The hospital will contain all medical and surgical subspecialties and will serve as a nursing and physician teaching facility.

After attending a Landmark Commission meeting where the landmark status of Omaha’s Clarinda-Page Apartments was challenged, a design concept was developed to save the 100-year-old building. Intended to spark community conversation and counter the “lost-cause” argument, the design enhances the Midtown Omaha neighborhood boasting historic architecture, walkability, and mixed-use development. Modern and historic architecture complement each other while important parking, square footage and accessibility requirements are carefully incorporated. A vibrant streetscape injects new life into the old building.
