Legal Assisting SocietyThe Legal Assisting Society is an organization designed for students pursuing a career as a Paralegal/ Legal Assistant; however, everyone is welcome to participate.  Monthly meetings host guest speakers from various law firms as well as state prosecutors and public defenders. The Legal Assisting Society can also provide networking opportunities, as well as information on local and national professional societies. I would like to work at the financial aid department or the careers department because it would provide me with the opportunity of helping other with money or their careers choices; both departments are located in building 68.

PART 2: College Catalog

Use your college print or online catalog to complete the following.

1. Find and record information about two scholarships/loans for which you might be eligible.The Federal Pell Grant program is the foundation for all federal student aid programs. Students must apply through the federal government (FAFSA on the WEB) and the federal government determines eligibility for aid. Funds are determined by income, assets, number in the household as well as other information. The

award is also affected by number of credits you are enrolled in each semester. 

The Pell grant may only be awarded to undergraduate, degree seeking students who have not already obtained a bachelor's degree.

2. Find the curriculum in which you plan to major.

a. Compare/contrast courses suggested for your first term with those suggested for your final term.

How do your account for similarities/differences?

For my freshman semester the classes were based on the placement test scores, and for my final doe’s

classes will the ones that prepared me hand on my career

b. Examine the curriculum carefully. Locate two courses in your major area and read their descriptions.

Which will you find more enjoyable? Why?

SlS1001: This course is tailored for First Time in College students and provides opportunities to learn

about Broward Community College and higher education, acquire and practice learning strategies,

explore personal learning styles, identify career options, and develop life-long skills for responsible

citizenship.

Rea0017c: College Preparatory Reading II teaches basic reading and study skills to prepare students for

college course work. An EAP0420C student must have an A, B, or C in EAP420C and have taken the

reading portion of the PERT assessment to place into REA0017C. Special fee charged. Prerequisite:

Completion of REA000 7C with a grade of "C" or higher or placement by assessment test.

I enjoyed the Both classes for different purposes the SLS has provide it me with a new mindset it has

changes my way of thinking and acting towards others, now the REA class the professor is so funny he

makes class very fun and I enjoy being in an environment in where I can learn and have fun all at the

same time.

c. Read the description for each of the courses in which you are now enrolled. How do the descriptions

compare to the actual content of the course? What conclusion(s) might you draw about the courses and

descriptions you identified in b?

Both courses descriptions are correct; by me taking both classes right now I can conclude that what I

read on the courses description is correct both classes where explain very clear.

Academic calendar: It provides you with all important dates of each term.

Drop: A proses that you have to make if for any circumstance you can’t continue with the course or class.

Withdrawal: The formal act of dropping classes.

Residency: The proof you have to provide to determine if you are going to be charge as a resident or out

of state student.

Elective: Is a course that is not required but offers credit for your major.

Syllabus: Is the paper you reacive at the beginning of the first day of class and there you will find the class

outlines and requirements.

Transcript: A copy of your permanent academic record.

Prerequisites: A courses you must pass for your degree before enrolling in other.

Transfer credit: Courses that you can transfer to other colleges or universities.

Credit hour: The amount of time you will spend in a particular course.

GROUP APPLICATION: On a piece of paper Identify three to five additional words or phrases you’ve heard around campus but aren’t sure you understand. Don’t sign your name to the paper. In class I will assign groups after all the pages are collected and I will randomly select several words or phrases for the class to discuss.

Activity: Identifying Campus Resources

Campus Resources

Now that you have completed the Scavenger Hunt of what’s on your campus. Go to each of the following locations on your campus and find out what it offers in order to answer the following questions:

1. College Bookstore. Other than textbooks, what does the bookstore sell? The bookstore sells all the courses book you will need and also things like paper, pencils and

even book bags and etc.

2. Library. Other than books for checkout, what other materials and/or services are available at your library? The library is more than a place with books it allows you to have a great environment to study and it also has access to computer and printer copy machine all very useful for a college student and for the public.

3. Career Services. What resources are available at your campus career services office?

The career services office offers you access to the computer for the purpose of finding a job and also your advisors are there for when you need to talk.

4. Learning Resource Center. What resources are available at your campus learning resource center?

The learning resources center is a place where you go for your labs and if you don’t have a computer at home this place allows you do your lab work here.

5. Student Life. What resources are available at your student life center?

The student life is a place of recreation where we have lunch and some school activities take place.

6. Campus Safety/Security. What resources are available at your campus safety/security office?

The campus safety is a place in where you can go for lost and found or to get the tag for your car or for when you are in danger at the campus.

7. Academic Advising. What resources are available at your campus academic advising office?

The place where you go to get advice on your schedule or careers path.

8. Registration. What resources are available at your campus Registration office?

This will be the first department you use on campus this is where you register and bring all the information needed to become a student at the college.
