Engineering, Pune organized a road show program on 08/08/2017 at Katraj signal.
About 25 students were involved in the activity. The Traffic police in charge at the
signal explained the students about the traffic rules in short as that the students
follow the rules and doesn‟t meet with any accident during the activity. The
program included displaying of posters of importance of rivers, measures to be
taken to conserve river water and to reduce pollution made by student on signal
for the people waiting at signal. Tree plantation on either side of the river was
proposed as the first step towards river protection. As a key step, awareness was

4. Description of activity:
On 3rd
July, 2017, successfully completed the event of Tree Plantation under the
National Service Scheme at Bharat Petroleum Petrol Pump campus. Trees are the
foremost source for producing the oxygen in environment, they helps to reduce the
level of CO2 . As we all know that the whole world is facing the problem of global
warming and to recover from such problem planting the trees is become one of the
most important aspects today.
The event was began with the welcoming of Principal and NSS coordinators.
Welcome speech has been given by the NSS coordinator. Then the Principal advice
to volunteers to think differently for the Society to make positive changes and to
make improvement. After that NSS Volunteers sung a NSS song followed by the
felicitation of Principal.
The Principal orients the NSS volunteers by notifying the importance of NSS for
them as well as society. He shared his past experiences with volunteers that how he
got the success through NSS and what difficulties he faced while performing his role
as Program Officer. He said that “In society all the human beings are comprise equal
importance, no matter with the Men or Women.” He also said that the dedication is
must to accomplish the goals and dreams in life. After the inspirational words of
Principal we all move towards the place where tree plantation took place. A very
first tree plant by Dr.R.J.Patil in college premises. Total tree planted by all others
including teachers, volunteers was more than 15 on the day. All were happy and
experience proud after the tree plantation event was finished, because it really feels
great to do positive for the nature.
5. Activity Experience:
a. The concept/principles/procedures learn as the result of activity
The gardeners taught us the 12 step procedure for planting of trees.
Select the right tree for your location. Ground Breaking Use a tree that will
grow well in your part of the state and make sure it has plenty of room
vertically and horizontally for the canopy and roots to grow. Dig the hole at
least twice as wide as the root ball. Dig a square hole no deeper than the root
NESGI/NAAC-2019/Criteria – 7/7.1.11 Page 7
ball. This keeps the roots from settling too deep while still allowing them to
penetrate the surrounding soil. Fill the empty hole with water and check the
drainage. If it takes longer than 24 hours to drain, select another site. A tree
will die if its roots are underwater for long periods of time. Prune the tree
sparingly and only if necessary. Remove only dead, broken and diseased
branches and roots that are crushed and girdling, or growing around the main
stem. Removing even a small portion of healthy canopy actually slows root
growth and delays establishment. A thoughtfully selected tree shouldn‟t need
to be pruned. Set the tree in the hole with the root collar (just above the roots)
flush or slightly above natural grade.
Planting too deep is a leading cause of mortality in newly planted trees. Don‟t
pick up the tree by the trunk. Always handle by the container or root ball.
Remove all foreign materials from the root ball. This includes wires, twine,
cords, containers and non-biodegradable bags. If planting a tree with roots
wrapped in burlap, remove as much of the burlap as possible. This allows
water to seep in and the roots to grow out. Gently fill the hole with the same
soil that came out of the hole. Do not add soil amendments. Settle the soil with
water. Packing the soil damages and breaks fine roots. Stake the tree only if
necessary.
Consult a professional if staking is required. Stakes should not be left in place
more than one year. Mulch around the tree at least out to the drip line, two to
three inches deep, and up to but not touching the trunk. Wood chips, pine bark,
leaf litter and hay are great mulches. Mulching keeps soil temperature fairly
steady boosts soil moisture retention and keeps weeds at bay. Organic mulches
add nutrients to the soil as they decompose.
Water the tree for at least the first two years, but don‟t over water. A newly
planted tree requires six to eight gallons of water for every diameter inch of
trunk per week. A thorough soaking is much better than light, frequent
watering. Protect the tree from animals and humans. Staking to the ground a
wire-mesh cage at least three feet in diameter and four feet tall can keep deer
and livestock from eating your tree. It also can safeguard your tree from weed
NESGI/NAAC-2019/Criteria – 7/7.1.11 Page 8
whackers, which can easily kill your tree. Do not fertilize the tree during the
first growing season. Too much nitrogen will burn tender roots, slowing
growth and delaying establishment.
b. Application of observation/experience in professional life/work.The
students and lecturer can implement the knowledge at home and other
social places.

ACTIVITY REPORT (Academic Year 2013-14)
1. Title of Activity: Visit to orphanage
2. Date & venue: 26/01/2014 ,Sai Children‟s Home,
3. Outcomes of activity:
The students had learnt the following outcome on visiting to orphanage.
Discovering so much to be grateful for.
Choosing to keep your heart open.
Being in the moment.
Finding something in nothing.
4. Description of activity:
Students of NESGI have an opportunity to do things differently. As Gram Seva and
Spirituality and Arts and Culture students get opportunities to visit villages and
Orphanages and interact with old people in Old age Homes. This year this year on
26th
January after the college Flag Hoisting ceremony few students got the
opportunity to visit an Orphanage named Sai Children‟s Home. It was such a
wonderful experience to be with the children. In spite of fighting with the odds their
heart-warming welcome made our hearts skip a bit. Their laugh made us cry inside
out. The way they greeted us calling Bhaiyya and Didi really brought tears to many
of us. We were welcomed abscondingly. Then we were given all the information
about the orphanage. The authorities and care takers of the orphanage told us that
there were around 50 orphans of the age group from 2 years to 10 years. After that
our hon. S.P.Suke sir had a brief talked about our institute. We danced and sang

songs with them and spent some quality time with the children and it was the most
worthwhile time ever spent. For all of us these memories will be cherished for our
life times and surely many of the students decided that they will surely contribute to
such worthy causes in their adult life. We distributed fruits and chocolates to the
children. With heavy hearts we had to leave because of time constraints. In spite of
having different faiths the serenity touched out hearts. It made us all peaceful and
our wandering minds came to a halt and we could feel the almighty‟s presence all
around us.
5. Activity Experience:
a. Application of observation/experience in professional life/work
The moment you enter the orphanage, you tend to feel both happy and sad at the
same time when you see children playing, fighting with each other, crying,
laughing, cribbing about certain things (like who‟s better: guys or girls?),
dancing, and so on. These children are really talented; some of them good at
singing and some good at dancing and some just have enough talent to wink at
girls! Simply observing their talent makes you feel happy and you wish you could
spend as much time with them as possible. If there is one occasion that gives a lot
of happiness and which can be looked forward to most, it has to be this activity.
One can feel like being born to spend at least a quarter of life with these children.
It is a well-known fact and was further reiterated in management class that every
person has a „natural child‟ inside of him and in the case if it‟s so strong that if
someone happens to extricate that natural child out, would probably die. After
visiting this place quite a few times, one can realize that most of the children are
left to fend for themselves either because the family did not have financial
means to take care of them or they just abandoned them. In some cases, the
parents just didn‟t have the experience to raise a child and had to give them up
for good.

It is unfortunate how these children are in a ripe age but have already lost a
significant part of their childhood hey had no one to give them a name, no one to
understand and care for them, no one to take them out, and no opportunity to go to
school.
None of us liked it when our parents reprimanded us for not studying properly, when
we made blunders, when we fought with our siblings or friends, when we didn‟t listen
to them but there was a concern behind every word that they said. Secretly, there were
two drops of tears shed for every tear of ours and there was an unsaid, unwritten
promise that they would take care of us at every juncture of our lives no matter what
their condition. These children are lacking all those words of care, anger, love and all
the feelings that parents express towards their children. Visiting the orphanage is a life
changing experience and you start appreciating the little things in life when you see
people who don‟t have them. Only at such times do you tide over the insignificant and
immaterial things and appreciate the bigger picture. We feel extremely fortunate that
we have our parents with us, these little angels don‟t.
b. Summary & conclusion
The visit to the orphanage was a fulfilling experience for us as we came back
with not only memories but also some valuable lessons.
