FLOWER WREATHVenezuelans love to decorate with flowers. On holidays, people decorate statues of Simon Bolivar with colorful wreaths. Simon Bolivar is Venezuela’s national hero. For years he fought for freedom from the Spanish, which he won in 1821. Today, most cities in Venezuela have a town square called Plaza Bolivar.
Bolivar freed his people from the Spanish. But another Man—Jesus—came to set all people free from sin and death. Venezuelans, and all of us, need to honor Him.
You can make a flowery wreath. To make it look Christmas-y, use any combination of red, green, white, and gold tissue paper.
■ For each child, you will need:
Large paper plate
Scissors
Paper punch
Unsharpened pencil
Colored tissue paper or tissues, cut into 5-inch squares
Tape
■ Instructions:
1. Cut out the center of the paper plate. (See figure 1.)
2. Around the rim, punch 2 rows of holes with the paper punch. (See figure 2.)
3. Take a square of tissue paper, wrap it around an unsharpened pencil (or wrap it around the eraser end of a pencil), and insert the center through a hole. (See figure 3.)
4. Turn the plate upside down and tape down the point of the tissue paper to hold it in place.
5. Continue until all the holes are filled.
6. Pray for Venezuela!
