THERE ARE MANY AMAZING, UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES TO BE HAD ON AND AROUND KOH SAMUI.

We are lucky to have three elephant sanctuaries in Samui, each of which offers a safe haven for elephants that have been rescued from working in tourism. It is important to note that they are the only 100% ethical sanctuaries on the island. The family that operates the sanctuaries has worked with elephants for many generations and is moti-vated by the common goal of freeing elephants from a hard life by providing a caring home where they can recover from the trauma of their past and live with peace and dignity.

Guests to the sanctuaries have the unforgettable experience of learning about elephants while feeding them and observing their spontaneous behavior as they play together in the pool and mud pit, communicating with each other and foraging while roaming the tropical grounds.

This is one of the best experiences Samui has to offer and by visiting one of the sanctuaries, you are supporting a sustainable, ethical and a compassionate approach to elephant tourism.

ETHICAL TOURISM ACTIVITIES

BOPHUT & CHAWENG NOI

• On Wednesday, a group of artists meet up to paint trash bins and beach signs. And you are invited to join them!• The venue is the colourful private beachside house of respected local artist Idania Reiss who encourages her

students to let their imaginations run riot and create bins that carry clear messages such as ‘Save our Oceans’, ‘Respect our Beaches’, etc.

• These bins are then purchased by local hotels, restaurants and other businesses and placed arond the island encouraging people to place their rubbish inside.

Cost : THB 2,500 per person (6 hours) including a delicious vegan lunch and unlimited bottled water.

If you fancy taking part in some local eco-action, you are welcome to join the regular beach cleans every Sunday.

• Every weekend, a group of dedicated eco-warriors get together to clean Samui’s beaches. If you would like to participate, look on Samui Clean’s Facebook page for time and areas they are cleaning.

• There is no charge to join and rubbish bags are supplied!

Fisherman’s Village Walking Street is, without doubt, the best night market in Samui.

Every Friday, the quiet, sleepy town of Bophut bursts into to life between 17:00 to 23:00 when the narrow Beach Road and adjoining streets are crammed with market stalls offering a diverse range of wares available at very reaso-nable prices.

• You can find all the usual paraphernalia such as T-shirts, jewellery, handbags, sunglasses. branded clo-thes and electrical goods.

• To further enhance the experience, you buy take-away cocktails for around 70 baht and drink it as you stroll!

• All the restaurants are buzzing on Friday nights so best to make a reservation beforehand, especially in high season.

Coco Tams at the west end of the village and right on the beach is extremely popular with nightly fire shows, great music and terrific pizzas and cocktails.

For transfers to and from the popular Fisherman’s Village and other attractions not organized by us, we suggest you download the NaviGo app which is the Thai version of Uber.
