OFT-1 : AGRONOMY

Title of on-farm trial

: Evaluation of suitable methods for growing wheat in DakshinDinajpur district

Details of technologies selected for assessment/refinement

: Farmers' practice= Traditional method of growing wheat by cultivation of land. Technology option-I : Zero tillage method for growing wheat. Technology option-II : Surface seeding of wheat in paddy field after irrigation.

Result: This result showed that sowing of wheat through zero tillage machine gave highest result as compared towheat cultivation in traditional system with proper land preparation and surface seeding of wheat after irrigation inthe field after rice harvesting. The significant result of yield attributing characters and yield in zero tillage method ofcultivation as compared to traditional method is due to proper water management, less weed growth thereby morenutrient uptake. Zero tillage produced more grain yield of 16% and 19% over farmers practice i.e. traditional methodof wheat sowing and surface sowing, respectively.

Title of on-farm trials : Evaluation of suitable varieties of lentil for DakshinDinajpur District

Details of technologies selected for asesmnt/refinement

: Farmers' practice : Local variety Technology option 1 : PL - 06Technology option 2 : PL - 07Technology option 3 : BM - 06

Result: Highest yield was obtained from the variety BM 06, followed by PL 07 & PL 06. Yield of these threevarieties were statistically higher than the local variety used by the farmers. Seed yield produced by the varietyBM 06 is statistically higher than rest of the varieties and recorded higher yield attributing characters. AlthoughBM 06 recorded statistically at par yield attributing characters with PL 06 & PL 07, but recorded higher B:C ratiothan rest of the varieties. Therefore, considering yield and B:C ratio, the performance of the variety BM 06, wassuperior.

Title of on-farm trial : Assessment of effect of vermicompost and farm yard manure on performance of cauliflower

Details of technologies selected for TAR

: Farmers' practice = lower doses of FYM (12 t/ha)+ RDF (NPK-120:60:60 kg/ha)Technology option-I : Application of FYM (18 t/ha)+ RDF (NPK-120:60:60 kg/ha)Technology option-II : Application of Vermicompost (9 t/ha)+ RDF (NPK-120:60:60 kg/ha)Technology option-III : ½ FYM (9t/ha) +½ Vermicompost (4.5 t/ha) + RDF (NPK-120:60:60 kg/ha)

Result shows that significantly highest yield was obtained from the technology option-II. Total number of leaves, whole plant weight and individual curd weight of cauliflower also showed the same trend like yield than any othertreatment but highest cost benefit ratio was observed from technology option-III than any other treatment. Theresult also showed that higher cost benefit ratio is observed in technology option II than technology option I due touse of only vermicompost in technology option II, though the cost of cultivation was same at both the cases.

Title of on-farm trial : Effect of planting dates on performance of onion in old alluvial zone of West Bengal.

Details of technologies selected for TAR

: Farmer practice: During month of November seed sowingTechnology option-I: 15th September seed sowingTechnology option-II: 1st October seed sowingTechnology option-III: 15st October seed sowingTechnology option-IV: 1st November seed sowingNote- 1.5 month aged Seedling is transplanted to the main field

Result showed that significantly highest yield was obtained from the Technology option-II. Total number of leaves, plant height, bulb diameter, bulb weight and cost benefit ratio also showed the same trend like yield than anyother treatment. Therefore the most optimum planting date was Technolgy Option II 15th November that is 1st

Title of OFT : Assessment of Effect of different feed management of earthworms to improve the nutritional quality of vermicompost

Details of technologies selected for TAR

: Farmers' practice: Vermicompost using cow dung as feed materialsTechnology Option I : Vermicompost using cow dung + water hyacinth compost (3:1) unit size (6’x3.5’x1’)Technology Option II: Vermicompost using cow dung + water hyacinth compost and leaf litter of pulse crop (3:1) unit size (6’x3.5’x1’)

OFT-5 : SOIL SCIENCE

Results: It showed that Tech Option-II gave better performance in respect to N (%), P (%), K (%), Vermicompostproduction, B: C ratio and crop yield except C/N. C: N ratio to less than 20 which indicates an advance degree oforganic matter stabilization and reflects a satisfactory degree of organic wastes. Technology option-II is significantlybetter options as compared to technology option- I and farmers’ practice. This result is once again justified throughsignificant variation in treatments when analyzed statistically. It may be concluded that, better performance of theparameters and higher yield and higher cost benefit are obtained in Technology Option-II.
