Welcome to another issue of Active Kidd! The holiday season went by so quickly and here we all are in 2010,

ready for a new year! Now is the time for new beginnings and resolutions for you and your family. Kids should make resolu-tions to establish healthy habits that will support a happy life, and we’re here to help support those resolutions.

One of Active Kidd’s resolutions is to embrace technology and to “go green” as some may say. We will achieve these goals by focusing our energy on our website, ActiveKidd.com. Based on feedback, families are looking for an easy and convenient way to access resources for youth sports, health and fi tness. The internet enables us to provide a broader range of informa-tion and resources to local families.

Our goal is to make ActiveKidd.com your “go to” website for youth sports, health and fi tness! Our updated website will include information such as ‘how to sign your child up for diff er-ent sports leagues’, ‘training and nutrition tips’ and ‘family and community activities’.

This being said, the January/February issue of Active Kidd will be the last printed issue of Active Kidd. We would like to thank all of our readers for your support and feedback, and hope you will visit ActiveKidd.com regularly. Activekidd.com will also include discounts and downloadable coupons from our partners in business…..we know parents always appreciate a good deal!

Remember to join us on FaceBook. Just add ‘Active Kidd’ as a friend and we’ll keep you updated on activities in the area, as well as promotions and events that support youth, sports, health and fi tness.

Happy New Year!

New Year’s Resolutions FOR HEALTHY TEETH! BY KASI FRANCK, DDS

IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY MADE A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION,

WHY NOT MAKE ONE THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAN SMILE ABOUT?

This year decide to improve your family’s dental health. New Year’s resolutions can be as easy or as hard as you make them. Setting a goal of good dental health is easy and it can benefi t you and your children’s overall health too.

The key to success with any new habit is to not start with a big goal, but something you can work into your daily routine that is easy to do and makes you feel better. For example; brushing one more time a day, adding fl ossing to your routine, or using a mouthwash after meals. One small change in your dental routine will create large improvements in your dental health and the health of your children.

BY FOLLOWING THESE SIMPLE TIPS, YOU CAN EASILY MAINTAIN GOOD ORAL HEALTH ALL YEAR LONG.

1. Brush your teeth at least two times a day. Brushing your teeth properly removes plaque from the surface before it hardens into calculus. For children be sure to supervise or help them with brushing their own teeth until they reach eight years old.

2. Use fl uoride toothpaste. Using toothpaste with fl uoride helps to prevent tooth decay and remineralizes areas where decay is starting.

3. Change your toothbrush every 3 to 6 months. Also change your toothbrush after having the fl u or a cold.

4. Floss your teeth daily. Flossing is the only way to remove plaque from in between your teeth that a toothbrush can’t reach. Children are not able to fl oss properly and will need help until they reach nine years old.

5. Use a mouth rinse. An antimicrobial mouth rinse can provide extra help in controlling plaque.

6. Eat healthy meals and snacks. Good nutrition is an important aspect in maintaining good dental health by avoiding sugary drinks and sticky sugary foods.

7. Visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Routine dental clean-ings and examinations are the best way to make sure that your teeth and gums stay healthy throughout the year.

If you and your family follow these simple tips, you can have a great smile. In addition, you gain the satisfaction of knowing that you are accomplishing your New Year’s resolution of achieving good dental health!

HOMEWOOD

MOUNTAIN RESORT

or more deals + purchase:

Homewood Mountain Resort rolls fun, safety and adventure into one, with a handful of activities for

parents and children.

Like skiing and snowboarding, children’s instruction has evolved through the decades. Homewood’s Snow Rangers Academy offers children ages 4 to 12 their very own gentle slope and surface lift and the newest learn-to-ski techniques from specialized coaches just for kids.

An on-snow tubing carousel offers a fun ride for small children, while progressing kids hang on for a ski tow. Obstacle courses with decorated arches and race gates give kids a fun way to apply the skills learned during instruction. Snow Rangers Academy camps are offered daily with both full and half-day options.

But what would skiing be without safety? This season Homewood Mountain Resort and sister ski resort Alpine Meadows will be the fi rst two west coast resorts in the country to offer GPS tracking technology for all kids enrolled in ski and snowboard day camps.

Manufactured by fl āik™ , the GPS tracking device is the size of a cell phone; and fi ts into a neoprene pouch which is secured around the child’s leg, above his or her boot. Every child enrolled in the standard children’s ski or snowboard programs at Homewood or Alpine Mead-ows receives a GPS device to wear for the full or half-day lesson.

With the GPS device, a child’s location is tracked in real time. Tracking is not only for safety purposes, but also for fun. Kids can log onto the resorts’ web site to view the trails he or she skied that day.

Homewood is accessible via Interstate 80 to California State Route 89, just 55 miles from Reno Tahoe Inter-national Airport. Visit www.skihomewood.com or call 530.525.2992 for more information about Homewood Mountain Resort.
