Introduction
Football, our national sport helps to provide thousands of children across the Stirling area with wonderful experiences and enjoyment.
The Scottish Football Association / Active Stirling football development programme has been in place for over 10 years and aims to provide opportunities for all.
This brochure contains all of our programmes which are aimed at children in the community or linked to their local primary schools. These children are the future of our national game, whether it is as a player, a coach or a spectator.
We hope that you will join us and enjoy playing the greatest game on earth.
The goals of the current programme are:
To provide opportunities for children and youths to enjoy football •participation within a structured programme To develop strong, safe and sustainable clubs throughout the community•To provide a suitable framework and pathway which supports the long term •player development of young playersTo increase the quality and quantity of coaches at all levels, through •Coach Education courses and In-Service TrainingTo give every participant the opportunity to develop their skills to •the best of their ability. The main emphasis however is placed on fun and enjoyment.
Our coaches who deliver all of our programmes, are both Disclosure Scotland checked and SFA certified/licenced. They endeavour to give every participant the opportunity to develop their skills to the best of their ability with the main emphasis placed on fun and enjoyment.

SFA Skill AcademiesWithin the game at whatever age and ability the 1 v 1 situation is central to a player’s development. To help players master these 1 v 1 situations from an attacking perspective, particular focus must be placed on individual technique training, because technical skill forms the foundation for tactical play.
The SFA / Active Stirling football development programme is pleased to announce an exciting new project called SFA Skill Academies. These sessions will involve more personalised coaching with players receiving content from the SFA Creative Player initiative. Coaches will work to develop the creative aspects of players with the aim of creating more technically able performers.
There are limited places available on these courses and players must be nominated by coaches from our SFA Football Centres before they are able to attend.
This programme can be carried out in addition to your child’s normal soccer centre programme or in place of it. However in order to maximise the amount of SFA standard coaching your child is receiving we would recommend that they attend both, where possible.

SFA Mixed Fun Four Festivals (Primary 3–4)All young people playing recreational football will now follow the new National Player Pathway, which starts with small sided games and grows with the child.
Research has shown the undoubted advantages of small sided games (more goals, more 1 v 1s, more successful passes, more touches) and some excellent work by youth leagues in Scotland has demonstrated the benefits of moving through small-sided games formats to the adult version of the game.
Fun Fours (6–8 years old)
March to November season •Trophy free – festival basis •Fun introduction to the game •Simple rules – children •referee themselves Size 3 ball •10 minute games•
The cost of entry is £8.00 per festival per school with each school being able to bring along as many teams as they like.
