Change

Active IQ offers a wide range of regulated qualifications which means they are officially recognised by key stakeholders, particularly government regulators (Ofqual and Qualifications Wales). Ofqual, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, is a non-ministerial government department that regulates qualifications, exams and tests in England and vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland; all regulated qualifications sit on its Register of Regulated Qualifications.

All recognised awarding organisations that offer regulated qualifications undergo rigorous compliance checks via a series of audits, occasional thematic reviews (where specific elements of an awarding organisation’s function are scrutinised) and the submission of an annual statement to Ofqual and Qualifications Wales showing how they have complied with all regulatory Conditions of Recognition.

Active IQ offers vocational qualifications from Entry Level through to Level 5. Qualifications are described by level and size. Currently there are nine separate levels: Entry Level plus Levels 1-8 (these are aligned to the levels within the European Qualifications Framework), and whilst this could be a way of deciding the ‘difficulty’ of a particular qualification, each level has its own ‘descriptor’ that provides much more detail about the knowledge and skills required at that level, i.e. what learners should know and be able to do upon completion of that qualification.

Active IQ qualifications are currently described as either an award, certificate or diploma and this is to give an indication of size.

By the end of 2017, all qualifications will have been altered to reflect the Regulated Qualification Framework’s requirements to describe our qualifications in terms of Guided Learning Hours and Total Qualification Time rather than the current system of credit as a single unit of measurement in terms of time spent on the qualification.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) is the number of notional hours or an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected for a learner to achieve and demonstrate the level of attainment necessary to be awarded the qualification.

Total Qualification Time is comprised of: (a) The number of hours which an awarding organisation has assigned to a qualification for Guided Learning, and (b) An estimate of the number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or any other form of participation in

education or training, including assessment, which takes place as directed by – but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of – a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.

Guided Learning Hours (GLH) describe the learner’s activities that are taught or instructed by – or otherwise participating in education or training under the immediate guidance or supervision of – a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.

Remember, it is not the size of qualification that indicates its difficulty, but the level.

ChangeeLearning

Learning solutions are constantly moving forward and we take learning, and the technology through which it can be delivered, very seriously. This is reflected in Active IQ’s eLearning platform.

In 2012, the Further Education Learning Technology Action Group (FELTAG) published its recommendations to government that all publicly-funded FE and skills courses should have a minimum of 10% online content by 2015/2016. It has also been recommended that this increases to 50% by 2017/2018. Evidence shows that online learning helps those who are most disengaged. Last year, Active IQ exceeded 10,000 learners registered on the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and the Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training online courses with excellent feedback and achievement rates.

We are proud to share our experience with you and to offer you the latest in learning technology and thinking.

So, what’s new about the new eLearning?

• Enhanced interactive level of instructional design including learner customisation tools.• Modules built in HTML5 so that they can run on PCs as well as tablet devices.• Enhanced platform functionality offering you the ability to brand to your own company design.

• eLearning content can be hosted in one of three ways:1. SCORM-compliant modules can be hosted on your own platform.2. You can have your own branded front end of the platform.3. Modules can be hosted on the Active IQ platform.

Benefits of eLearning:

• Reduced overheads of classroom hire and travel expenses.• Learning can be completed at a pace, place and time to suit the learner.• Train higher numbers of learners at any one time.• Secure access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.• Learner journey gives a visual representation of how learners are progressing.• Improved learner engagement and retention of learners.• Learners are in control of their own learning which can aid motivation.• A consistent quality of product and message is received by all learners.
