I am home schooled so when winter comes,my

family heads to Grouse mountain as often as possible:

every week if we can fit it into our schedule.

My little sister and my mom ski but the rest of us board.

It’s like we get a family vacation every week.

It’s really sweet!

But trust me snowboarding isn’t as difficult as

it may seem. If you have a chance you should

give it a try.

-Maria

I think that the most difficult part about snowboarding

is the getting of the lift without falling over(I

still haven’t gotten the hang of it). Most people

would say that it’s the easiest part about this cool sport,

but then again I’ve only been snowboarding

for two years. That’s where that famous phrase

comes in “It’s easy when you know how.”

The feel of the crisp wind on your face comes as the snow

whirls around you in an exciting rush of white flakes.

When I snowboard I feel pure freedom!

It wraps me up on the inside till I can do nothing to

prevent it. I feel as though I’m living in an epic dream.

Freedom!!!

You all know the BlackEyedPeas, Ke$ha, and other modern bands, singers and music in general. Now think back at the year 2000 when you heard singers like Nelly Furta-do and Maroon 5. The music was original and so were the artists. Over the years, music has changed dramatically from easy rock to extreme techno and autotune. No one is paying attention to actual music anymore. The songs 10 years ago came from the soul and were written by the art-ists themselves. Now there are inappropriate scenes and lyrics to songs with computer generated voices. Think what is going to happen to music 10 years from now. And what would happen if music was the same 10 years ago.

Music Changed Its Beat

Last October during my visit to Poland I was totally impressed by fashion there. There are so many stores, big and small and every time I went in-side one of them I wanted to buy something. I had never seen such a great selection of clothing in my life. I was in luck to have my Gramma buying things for me; otherwise I probably would have gone bankrupt spending all my money. The good thing is that the prices are not that bad compered to Canada, everything is still so much cheaper.

I will never forget the atmosphere of those narrow, old streets with shops in centuries old towns. It is just unforgettable!

French braid Learn how to make this pretty hair-do in a few simple steps!

Step one.

Brush your hair before you start and if you like you can do it with wet hair because it is a bit easier.

Step two.

Make a v-shape at the top of your head.

Step three.

Separate in to three groups and connect all three by braiding, before you connect more just add hair and keep on adding ever time you go over once.

When you are adding hair then go down your head and com-plete a rotation.

Page 9: Active-8

When you are done you can tuck in the bottom of the braid or just leave it the way it is.

Et Voila!

If you have a sporty personality it means that you like being comfort-able and casual. It doesn’t necessar-ily mean you play a lot of sports. You are cheerful, energetic, enthusiastic, friendly, and natural. You are op-timistic, and you love to have fun. Basically, if it’s easy and quick- it works for you!

When it comes to clothing, you want pieces that flatter your figure, promote your dignity, and express your unique personality. Because in life, first impres-sions are usually based on how you look- so make sure that the clothes you wear show the real you! In the fashion world there are generally seven types of ‘Fashion Personalities.’ These include: Sporty, Traditional, Elegant, Feminine, Al-luring, Dramatic, and Creative. You can have multiple fashion personalities, but usually there is one category in particular that will stand above the rest. Here, we’ll talk about five of them.

What’s Your Personality Profile?

If you have a traditional personality it means that you like the businesslike, conserva-tive outfits. Designs are usually streamline, and monochromatic or neutral. You like timeless pieces because they are more practical. You like getting the job done, so you are responsible, dependable, efficient, sensible and organized. People can trust you to complete a task.

Page 11: Active-8

The last personality is for those of you who are creative. You like wearing things no one has seen before and mixing colours and patterns. Your amazing uniqueness shows! You are adventurous, artistic, free spirited, imaginative, inde-pendent, innovative, original, spontaneous, and unique. People always know that it’s you from a distance.

Most girls have feminine fashion personalities. This means you are drawn to pinks and laces. You like gentle, soft co-lours. The fact that you are caring, kind, considerate, and sensitive also shows in your clothes. If you have a romantic spot, this personality is yours too. You are a compassion-ate, supportive, understanding person.

If you have an elegant per-sonality it means that you like your outfits perfect down to the smallest details. Compared to everyone else you seem more formal and meticulous. Flashy, colourful things aren’t always your thing. Rather, you want to show that you are cultivated, dignified, discerning, poised, and refined. Aubrey Hepburn is an awesome example of an elegant dresser.

The media puts constant pressure on women to look or dress a certain way. We are all showered with mes-sages from internet, televi-sion, music, magazines and more. We are all affected by what we see, hear, and read. Maybe after seeing how much time, effort and money the mass media puts into trying to get your attention and your money you will think twice about listening to all the things that they put out there. Will we allow the media message to tell us we are not up to standard because ‘we are not pretty or thin enough’? You may think that they are doing this to be helpful or that they are doing this with your best interest in mind; WRONG, they are doing it with your money in mind. They don’t care what they tell you, or

how it affects you as long as they get your attention, they are happy. It is not that you can’t enjoy the media but just be careful of how much of it is affecting you in a negative way. A horrible example of negative effects is anorexia. Anorexia is only one type of eating disorder but one of the common connections with eating disorder victims is the influence of the media. Messages coming at us tell us we are only good enough if we are a certain size. Of course we have to have self control when it comes to eat-ing but that doesn’t mean we have to let the media set the standards. We are not clones.

There is no way we can all be alike. No matter how hard we try to be like the media models we will never be like them. We shouldn’t think or let others think that because we are a bit overweight we are any less of a person. Even if you are not over weight you don’t have the right to think you are more of a per-son. We all deserve respect no matter whom we are or where we come from. Don’t let the media convince you otherwise. -Isabella

Will we allow the media message to tell us we are not up to standard because ‘we are not pretty or thin enough’?

Media Influence

Trying to Fit in

Everyone tries to fit in with the popular crowd. They try to dress cool or do things that they think is cool because the people who are popular do that stuff, but it isn’t cool at all. But we always forget the most important thing, just being ourselves. Everyone is unique in their own ways, and we shouldn’t try to be something that were not, just being ourselves is enough. If your friends don’t like for who you are then they are not your true friends. No one should change just because other people want them to. - -Cecilia
